October 2017 NEWSLETTER

Good Afternoon LBP Families,

On behalf of the Lord Baden-Powell staff, we would like to wish you a relaxing and enjoyable long weekend. We hope the

oven and dishwasher are functioning properly and that there are no issues with electricity for your dinner plans. We had

a very successful Meet The Teacher BBQ that would not have been possible without the help of our parents Grill Master

Orion, Dawoon, Jung Hyun, Lana, Marni and Mary Catherine. It was very special to have our staff all chip in to make the

event a booming success. The proceeds raised from the BBQ helped to kick off a very successful Terry Fox Run fundraising

campaign that raised over $1850 for the TF Foundation. Special thanks to the students of Ms. Smith’s class for the

collection of funds each day as well as Ms. Clay and Ms. Thibault for the organizing of assembly and school run.

We will be seeing some traffic issues in the coming months on the Joyce cul-de-sac close to Rochester and Blue Mountain.

The City of Coquitlam is upgrading the water main system and the chances of turning around in the cul-de-sac are next to

impossible. If you are a regular user of the cul-de-sac, please know that the cul-de-sac is unavailable for the next two to

three months. I am the messenger of this news and if you have any complaints or concerns, please direct them to the City

“Capital Works” Department.

Today you should receive an interim report from your child for the first portion of the school year. Some teachers have

requested a meeting with families to discuss your child’s progress to date. Please take them up on their offer on

Wednesday or Thursday of next week. A reminder that THURSDAY, October 12 is an early dismissal seeing students

dismissed at 1:45. We will also be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair on both of those evenings in the library.

Library News

We are off to another exciting year of books, Red Cedar Book club, the Read-a-thon and Book Fairs.

The library schedule this year is as follows:

Monday: Divisions 3, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12 Wednesday: Divisions 2, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12 Thursday: 1, 4, 7, 8 Kindergarten won’t check books out right away so we can learn to care for them (books, not kids…).

Parents will be notified when it starts.

In the land of books, your child could have an adventure every week. Students cannot take out new books, if they have overdue books, so please help your child return

his/her library books for EVERY library class.

Thursday, October 18th

Forms have been distributed in your child’s classroom

Photo Retakes are scheduled on November 6th.

The Great

Our annual Pumpkin Run takes place on Thursday, Oct. 26th at 1:30 p.m. Students will run around the gravel field or the

school perimeter, and then put tickets into a draw to win a pumpkin!

We will be collecting pumpkin donations right up to the day of the run. If you would like to donate a pumpkin,

please bring it to the front lobby of the school.

We are looking for gently used clean children's clothing to fill our table in the main hallway next to the staff room. We appreciate your generosity as the winter season approaches.
