reading the story ‘Possum Magic in class and creating some fantastic artworks to display in the classroom.

Transition On Tuesday we had our first day of Transition for Term 2. This term kindergarten and Year 1 will be working with transition students in the morning session on play based projects. They will be collaborating, problem solving and creating whilst learning critical social skills to help them throughout their school life. Cooking In week 1 we made great use of our pumpkins grown in the Vegetable garden and cooked pumpkin soup and damper rolls. This week we used some of the leftover soup that we froze to make a pumpkin chicken curry and for our treat meal we had Impossible Pie.

Chinese Lessons Unfortunately due to Cross Country we have missed our last lesson of Chinese which we made up for this afternoon. We were all looking forward to catching up with our teacher Jessica after the holidays and she was very interested to see what we could remember. Music In music this term we have been learning some new songs. One song Mrs Riles has asked the older class to learn on the Marimbas is ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ from the Lion King movie. Some of the Primary students have been eager to learn certain parts and are practicing in their own time, it’s fantastic to see such enthusiasm and dedication.

Easter Parade In Week 11 of last term we held our Easter Parade. Students from Transition to Year 6 were able to display their fantastic Easter floats. At the conclusion of our parade we went on a Easter egg hunt around the playground. We hope everyone had a fantastic Easter weekend with family and friends in the holidays.

A message from Canowindra RSL President Mike Harrison On behalf of Canowindra RSL sub branch I would like to thank Cargo primary school for their participation in our Anzac Day march and laying a wreath at the service at memorial park. It is very special to have you all marching

with us an Anzac day, and to all

the students and teachers that marched – thank you. Well done Cargo primary school.

NAPLAN The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) test is for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students. NAPLAN tests provide an indication of student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy. The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals which can be used to improve student achievement. All students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. Testing is conducted in May and reports for years 3 and 5 become available later in the year. The report will describe your child's particular skills in Reading,

Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy. The report will also show how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards. These describe the minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia. It is important to understand that, in terms of individual student performances, NAPLAN is a 'snapshot' of performance. However whole school, long term data can be used very effectively to support planning processes.
