When I �rst saw Lorraine Fossi's work, I was immediately stuck by two things; one, her great sense of color, and two, her excellent sense of composition. Her art displays an arresting quality that invites further inspection. When you come to see and realise that her paintings are not just pure abstract works, but about the sea, one is struck by the command and knowledge she possesses of the subject. Anyone who has sailed the sea, looked upon it, or gone through a storm on the sea, will recognise elements that she has managed to convey. 

Many abstract artists today fail utterly to keep and hold your attention. Their work is decorative at best, and dismal in terms of its power to hold your attention and invite you in to see more each time you look at the work. Lorraine Fossi's absolute assurance of composition (a rarity, but necessity, with good abstract painting) ensures the viewer a thoroughly rewarding experience, and works that reward viewing many times. She's an outstanding artist.

My paintings do not refer to the outside world, even though they emerge from it. One would not �nd the existing space of a feeling or a thought and this is the point…’ Immersing in my visions, you are free. Indeed, avoiding prescriptive manner, my visual spaces mediate sacred powers and emotional forces, both: vulnerable and moving.

A Wall or a View?

During the past two years I have tried to abstract the landscape from it representational form. Unlike the cubists who dismantle form, I have moved and transformed landscape’s identi�able elements in a whole and unique vision.

Outside these visions, I wanted to see further… Looking for equilibrium between my architect foundation and visual aspiration, new questionings are constantly at work and in my mind.

Ambiguous abstraction is my reality. Opacities and transparences, what comes forward, a wall or a view? Each painting is opening on new spaces, somewhere where we can change and transform.
