her thoughtfulness.• In a note to someone who has given you money, you don’t have to mention the amount but do tell the person what you intend to spend it on.• Begin your note with “Dear.” -- Dear Irma, Dear Mrs. Wolcott...• Keep nice margins and try to write as straight across the pa-per as you can so your note doesn’t look baby-ish.• When you “close,” which comes right af-ter the body of your note or letter, sign “Love,” and then your name under it.

Other times to write a thank-you note are when you’ve been a guest for a weekend or longer in someone’s home; when you receive a gift for any oc-casion; if you’ve been sick and receive flowers or gifts. When in doubt whether to write a thank-you note or not, write it. It is best to err on the side of graciousness. Always handwrite your note in ink. (Colored ink is fine, but don’t use pencil.)

Dear Ms. Etiquette,I am in Jr. High and re-cently had a birthday party where I received presents. I told everyone thank you for the gift when they left. Do I still have to write a thank you note? If so, what do I say.

Yes, you do still have to write a thank you note and it is best to write it within 24 hours if possible. This way, your feelings will creep right into the note. A telephone call is not a sub-stitute for a written note ei-ther. Here’s what you might mention in your note:

• Mention the gift or whatever it is you’re thankful for.• Proceed further and let the giver know what you plan to do with it or have done with it.• Tell the person “how much” you like the gift or why you are so happy with it.• Should you receive a gift you already have, let it remain your se-cret.• If you’re thanking someone for a gift you’re not wild about, and can’t find any-thing to say about it, thank the person for

Q: I have a problem with bad breath. Is there anything I can do about this, other than daily brushing and flossing?

Dr. Eric Valle

More than 90 million peo-ple suffer from chronic hali-tosis or bad breath. Certain foods, tobacco products, & medical disorders like chronic bronchitis can cause bad breath, but in most cases, it originates from the gums & tongue. If you don’t

brush & floss daily, particles of food remain in your mouth, collecting bacteria. Food that col-lects between the teeth, on the tongue & around the gums can rot, producing a sulfur compound that causes the unpleasant odor. Maintaining good oral health is essential to reducing bad breath. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to re-move food debris & plaque. Clean your tongue too with a toothbrush or a tongue scraper. Use floss to clean between teeth daily. Most impor-tantly, be sure to schedule regular dental visits for a professional cleaning, & exam, every 6 months. Let your dentist know if you require daily use of a breath freshener to hide unpleasant mouth odor. Mouthwashes generally do not have a long- last-ing effect on bad breath; your dentist may recom-mend a special antimicrobial mouth rinse if you need extra help controlling plaque.

In total, 67 miles of Rio Grande Valley roadways will now be marked with I-69 interstate highway signs. A 53-mile stretch of US 77 will now be designated as I-69E from the junction of Business 77 north of Raymondville to just north of the U.S./Mexico border. A 14-mile length of US 281 will be designated as I-69C from the junction of FM 2812 in Edinburg to US 83 in Pharr.
