A state-of-the-art facility built at a cost of over 650 million Euros in 1992, the Kaiserstuhl coke factory closed only eight years later, when the cost of importing coke became cheaper than manufacturing it. Filmmakers Ulrike Franke and Michael Loeken watch as, for the next year-and-a-half, the Chinese work sixty-hour weeks, often under dangerous conditions, to literally take the giant factory apart, piece-by-piece, and ship it back to China.
