Will has risen from his seat and is handing John the Ball.
WILLRight . . .

He APPEARS outside Wills cabin. Dressed in NIGHT CLOTHES. He HOLDS a STEAMING MUG.

JOHNSmith--
DR. SMITHSurely, Professor, some arrangements are being made to apply a cessation to that infernal racket?
ANGLE: WILL20 20
WILLIm sorry, Dr. Smith. I didnt realize I was making so much noise.
DR. SMITHWell, you were. And this hollow bowl of a ship resounds like a gong with every impact of your fidgeting.
5.
ANGLE: JOHN21 21
JOHNDr. Smith, I appreciate your concern, but if you--
ANGLE: DR. SMITH22 22
Handing Will the STEAMING MUG.
DR. SMITHProfessor, if you please? Who is the geologist and who is the physician here? Morning comes very early in these parts, dear boy. And it wouldnt do at all to have your brilliant, yet fragile mind descending into madness . . .
ANGLE: PENNY23 23
She POKES her HEAD out of her CABIN.
PENNYWhats going on?
JOHNNothing, Penny. Go back to bed, sweetheart . . .
ANGLE: PENNY24 24

PENNYWell, excuse me . . .
ANGLE: WILL25 25
Drinking from the mug.
WILLThanks, Dr. Smith.
DR. SMITHOf course, dear boy. The warm milk should act as a mild sedative and you will be sound asleep before you know it.
6.
I often use this method myself when my mind becomes preoccupied. As to your anxiousness, you know Im always available for you should you need to talk. I am well studied in the art of psychology, you know--
JOHNThats enough, Dr. Smith. Thank you and good night.
ANGLE: DR. SMITH26 26
He takes EXCEPTION. He is OFFENDED as he STRIDES toward his cabin.
DR. SMITHHmmph! Good night, indeed! I doubt I shall sleep a wink now that Im up. Of that, Im certain . . .

JUDY and MAUREEN ROBINSON are WORKING over SEVERAL TABLES of SMALL PLANTS.
DON WEST and PROFESSOR JOHN ROBINSON are NEARBY, LOADING EQUIPMENT into the CHARIOT

MAUREENOh, John. I believe hes still asleep.
ANGLE: DON34 34
HOISTING up some EQUIPMENT
DONWere on a pretty tight schedule, you know. But I think I can make up the time driving if you want to wait for him.
JOHNNo. If hes sleeping this late he probably needs the rest.
8.
ANGLE: MAUREEN AND JUDY35 35
JUDYDo you want me to wake him?
John is LOADING the last equipment into the Chariot as Don is CLIMBING in to the Drivers seat.
JOHNWell manage without him. Were just going to take some ore samples. He wouldnt be able to analyze them until we got back to the ship anyway.
ANGLE: ALL36 36
As the Chariot pulls away.
MAUREENWell, be careful!
JOHN(calling)
Well be back before dark.
JUDYDo you think hell be disappointed, Mother?
ANGLE: MAUREEN AND JUDY37 37
WATCHING the Chariot go.
MAUREENOh, honey, I hope not. The short days and nights on this planet have everyones schedule off. Im feeling it myself.
ANGLE: JUDY38 38
EXAMINING the PLANTS on the TABLE.
JUDYPenny says she thinks the short daylight hours are whats making these leaves brown. She said we might have to set up some artificial lighting to keep them healthy.
9.
ANGLE: MAUREEN AND JUDY39 39
Maureen is indicating some BRANCHES over-hanging the table.
MAUREENIf we ran a string of lights from here back to the Jupiter . . .
JUDYYes, but wed need to do something to keep those horrible monkey-things or whatever they are away. Thank heaven they seem to have backed away from the ship. If Id been hit with one more branch or rock . . .
WILL is in the HATCH-WAY of the JUPITER II. He is PARTIALLY DRESSED. Disheveled. Obviously just awakened.
WILLMOM! Wheres the Chariot? Wheres Dad and Don?
ANGLE: MAUREEN40 40
MAUREENOh, Will! Im afraid you just missed them. They were on a schedule and your father said you could do the analysis when they brought the samples back. I hope youre not too disappointed.
WILLIts okay. Just what I need--
ANGLE: WILL41 41
UNHAPPY. STANDING in the HATCH-WAY.
WILL-- a day with nothing to do . . .
CUT TO:
EXT. THE FOREST -- DAY42 42
PENNY is LYING on her STOMACH, PEERING UP into the TREES through an OPTICAL SCANNER. She is to be stealthy--without much success.
10.
PENNY(whisper)
. . . Where are you guys? I know youre there . . .
ANGLE: PENNY43 43
As she is BOPPED on the HEAD by a SMALL BRANCH thrown from one of the trees.
PENNYOUCH! Now, Im sure youre there.
ANGLE: PENNY44 44
ADJUSTING the scanner.
PENNYSo why cant I see you?
A STICK THROWN from the TREES just MISSES her.
ANGLE: PENNY45 45
LOOKING through the SCANNER.
PENNYHA! Missed me that time . . .
INTSERT46 46
Pennys POV through the SCANNER. A LARGE, DARK FORM BLOCKS her view.
ANGLE: PENNY47 47
SHOCKED
PENNYWHAT?!?!?
ANGLE: PENNY48 48
WILL is BLOCKING her view.
11.
PENNY(relieved)
Oh, Will. You scared me. Dont sneak up on me like that
WILLI wasnt sneaking. You just werent playing attention. What are you doing?
ANGLE: PENNY AND WILL49 49
She is adjusting the scanner again.
PENNY(whisper)
. . . not so loud. Im trying to get a look at whatever lives in those trees.
Will doesnt look too interested.
WILLAhh, theyre just some kind of monkeys or squirrels or something.
A BRANCH FLIES through the air, MISSING them both.
ANGLE: PENNY AND WILL50 50
She is ANNOYED at his lack of enthusiasm
PENNYI thought you were going with Dad and Don to the mountains, anyway.
WILLYeah, well, I didnt. I--OW!!
As Will is ALSO bopped with a stick.
ANGLE: WILL51 51
ANGRY. He THROWS a STICK back into the tees.
WILLHEY! Cut it out! Those things have been throwing stuff at us since we landed and we havent even seen them yet!
12.
ANGLE: WILL AND PENNY52 52
DIVING for cover as a RAIN of DEBRIS comes from the trees in response to Wllls throw.
WILLHEY!!
PENNYWill! Im trying to study these things. At least get a look at them. Now, youve got them all stirred up!
ANGLE: WILL53 53
THROWING another stick.
WILLWell, they shouldnt be throwing stuff at us!
ANGLE: PENNY54 54
ANGRY!
PENNYWILL! Itll take hours for them to calm down if you dont leave them alone. Im trying to make a study.
ANGLE: WILL55 55
ANNOYED and FRUSTRATED. ARMS WAVING in the air as he STALKS away.
WILLOkay! Okay! Im sorry! You dont have to be such a grouch!
ANGLE: PENNY56 56
SHOUTING after him.
PENNYWell, maybe some of us didnt get a lot of sleep last night!
13.
ANGLE: PENNY57 57
Turning back toward the trees.
PENNYBrothers! Sometimes I wish--OW!
As SHE is BOPPED with another stick.
PENNY (CONTD)Now, cut it out!
CUT TO:
EXT. A CLEARING IN THE WOODS -- DAY58 58
DR. SMITH and the ROBOT are there. They are laboring to create a SHELTER composed of WOOD POLES and MOSQUITO NETTING. Dr. Smith DIRECTS while the Robot DOES the work.
The ROBOT is STRUGGLING to RAISE a WALL-POLE without TANGLING in the NETTING.
DR. SMITHCareful, Ninny . . . Take care not to twist it.
ROBOTA less complicated plan would have been to raise the netting once the basic structure is completed.
ANGLE: DR SMITH59 59
DR. SMITHPerhaps. But then I should have had to endure the peltings of those Invisible Irritations while the project progressed. And, as it is you and not I performing the bulk of this labor, the added difficulty means nothing to me. So, continue.
ANGLE: DR. SMITH60 60
LOOKING through the NETTING into the trees above.
14.
DR. SMITHA pity there seems nothing to be done to silence the incessant chattering of those loathsome creatures . . .
WILL ROBINSON is APPROACHING through the WOODS
WILLDr. Smith . . .
He is DIVING and WEAVING through a RAIN of DEBRIS thrown from above.
ANGLE: DR. SMITH, WILL AND THE ROBOT61 61
Will is HURRYING for the SHELTER. Dr. Smith HOLDS open a FLAP of the NETTING for him to pass.
DR. SMITHWilliam! Hurry, Dear Boy! Youre very nearly in time for the dedication.
WILLWow! Youve done all this just since this morning?
ANGLE: DR SMITH 62 62
Looking around in satisfaction.
DR. SMITHIndeed. Not all of us are so inclined as to snooze away the entire day, William. Precious as those few sunlit hours are on this dreary little world . . .
WILLThe nets a great idea to keep out the debris. Youve done an incredible job . . .
ANGLE: DR SMITH AND THE ROBOT63 63
Dr. Smith INDICATES the Robot.
DR. SMITHAnd no help from this Automated Oddity either.
15.
But labor is as labor does and when theres work to be done, never fear, Smith is here . . .
ANGLE: WILL64 64
GRINNING.
WILLRight . . .
DR. SMITHA few cushions and pillows to manifest a suitable decor and this cozy little retreat will be an ideal--
ROBOTWARNING! WARNING!
ANGLE: DR SMITH65 65
IRRITATED
DR. SMITHWhat is it now, you Computerized Conundrum?
ROBOTObject: Life-form on the netting. Mass in excess of the test limits for integrity of the material.
DR. SMITH(fearful)
In excess . . . !?!
Will is LOOKING around.
WILLWhere, Robot? I dont see anything.
ANGLE: THE ROBOT66 66
INDICATING a SWELLING in the NETTING that DIPS down from the ROOF. A CREATURE, a PRIMATE the size of a medium dog, is TANGLED in the NETTING. It is PARTIALLY CAMOUFLAGED, its appearance mimicking the COLORS and PATTERNS of the NETTING and TREES around.
16.
DR. SMITH (CONT'D)
ROBOTObject: Life-form is masking its physical appearance. Warning: Test limits exceeded. Structural failure is imminent.
ANGLE: WILL67 67
Moving toward the creature.
WILLWe have to get it out of the net before it brings the whole place--
ANGLE: ALL68 68
But it is TOO LATE as the weight of the Creature in the net brings the whole place DOWN on their HEADS.
WILLLOOK OUT!
ANGLE: DR. SMITH69 69
He is ON the GROUND beneath some rubble. He is DISPIRITED.
DR. SMITHOh, the pain . . .
ANGLE: WILL70 70
EXAMINING the CREATURE still TANGLED in the NETTING. It PEERS back at him with curiosity. There is a HINT of Wills RED HAIR color now mimicked in the Creatures fur.
WILLAt least weve finally got one of these things for Penny to look at . . .
ANGLE: DR. SMITH AND THE ROBOT71 71
The Robot AIDING Dr. Smith to his feet.
DR. SMITHOh, joy! Help me up, Ninny!
17.
ANGLE: DR. SMITH72 72
ATTEMPTING to RECLAIM some of his DIGNITY.
DR. SMITHHopefully, she can determine what toxins would be appropriate for ridding the forest of these hirsute vandals. Some tainted fruit scattered about the forest floor, perhaps . . .
Will has PICKED UP the Creature, which CLINGS to him through the net as if for COMFORT. The Creature has now CHANGED to the COLOR of WILLS CLOTHING.
WILL(scolding)
Dr. Smith!
ANGLE: DR. SMITH73 73
BOPPED on the HEAD by a BRANCH thrown from the trees.
DR. SMITHOUCH!!
ANGLE: DR. SMITH, WILL AND THE ROBOT74 74
Will LAUGHS.
Dr. Smith looks INDIGNANT.
DR. SMITH(outraged)
INDEED!
CUT TO:
INT. THE JUPITER II -- LATER75 75
The GALLEY. JUDY, MAUREEN and PENNY are there looking over the CREATURE which SITS on the TABLE. Will hangs back as Judy FEEDS the Creature a small SNACK by hand.
JUDYOh, its just darling . . .
MAUREENBe careful it doesnt bite you, Judy.
18.
PENNYShe shouldnt. Ive been handling her for a while and shes just as friendly as can be.
ANGLE: JUDY AND THE CREATURE76 76
The Creature MIMICS the COLORING of Judys clothing.
Judy is SURPRISED.
JUDYOH! Look at that! How does it do that?
MAUREENIts a female?
ANGLE: PENNY77 77
PICKING UP the animal as it CHANGES to MATCH her coloring.
PENNYYes. And shes a marsupial, too.
Will is trying to EDGE in.
WILLThe hair isnt really changing color. Its just a clear tube. Like a fiber-optics line. The pigment of the skin underneath is whats--
JUDY(interrupting)
Its just so CUTE!!
ANGLE: ALL78 78
Will looks ANGRY at being interrupted.
WILL. . . changing . . .
Penny SCRATCHES the Creature behind the ears.
PENNYShell even purr if you scratch behind her ears.
19.
The Creature is LOOKING at WILL.
ANGLE: WILL79 79
UNIMPRESSED.
WILLThats great . . .
Dr. Smith APPEARS, leaning his head into the Galley. He is EATING a PIECE of FRUIT.
DR. SMITHI thought it my duty to report the other members of the expedition have returned.
ANGLE: ALL80 80
JUDYGood! I cant wait for Don to see--
But the Creature SQUEALS at the SIGHT of Dr. Smith and VANISHES from view.
WILLWhered it go?
MAUREENIts gone!
DR. SMITHOh, dear. We simply cannot have that loathsome creature at large inside the spaceship! Itll be the death of us all!
STARTLED, he DROPS his fruit to the table.
ANGLE: PENNY81 81
She SEEMS to be CLUTCHING only empty AIR.
PENNYNo! Shes still here! Im holding her.
JUDYShe must be afraid of Dr. Smith.
Will is reaching out to TOUCH the invisible animal.
20.
WILLWhat incredible camouflage ability. No wonder we couldnt see them.
ANGLE: DR SMITH82 82
As the animal slowly FADES back into view.
DR. SMITHFuzzy misanthrope!
ANGLE: PENNY83 83
Handing Will the Creature. It is visible again and TURNING RED for Will.
PENNY(excited)
Dad and Don are back! I cant wait to tell them about this! Watch her, Will.
Maureen and Judy are HEADING AWAY also, leaving Will and Dr. Smith ALONE with the CREATURE.
ANGLE: WILL AND DR. SMITH84 84
Dr. Smith EYES the Creature cautiously.
DR. SMITHAre you not also interested o greeting the weary travelers?
Will is SETTING the Creature on the Galley Table.
WILLYeah . . . I guess shell be okay down here.
ANGLE: DR. SMITH AND THE CREATURE85 85
The Creature SNIFFING at Dr. Smiths DROPPED FRUIT.
Dr. Smith REACHES DOWN to TAKE the FRUIT away.
DR. SMITHGive me that, you multi-hued miscreant!
21.
ANGLE: THE CREATURE86 86
Which turns BLACK and BARS remarkable LARGE TEETH. It GROWLS.
Dr. Smith is FRIGHTENED and BACKS AWAY.
DR. SMITHWilliam! Wait for me!
ANGLE: THE CREATURE87 87
EATING the fruit.
ANGLE: ZORRO88 88
Pennys pet. He is POKING his head into the Galley to get a LOOK at the CREATURE, which notices him.
ANGLE: THE CREATURE AND ZORRO89 89
As the Creature TRANSFORMS into a DUPLICATE of ZORRO in both FORM and COLOR.
ANGLE: ZORRO90 90
FRIGHTENED. RUNNING from the Galley as the Creature contentedly resumes EATING the fruit.
CUT TO:
EXT. THE JUPITER II -- EVENING91 91
EVERYONE gathered around a DINNER TABLE with the exception of PENNY. She is NEARBY with the CREATURE. It has RESUMED its natural form and is playing with a PIECE of FRUIT like a BALL. Penny is coaching the animal to the delight of all, except for Will and Dr. Smith.
Will looks BORED and Dr. Smith MISTRUSTS the animal.
JOHNI could swear that little thing is trying to entertain us.
PENNYOh, shes smart. She learns so fast.
22.
MAUREENNow, Penny, youre not planning on trying to keep it, are you? Dont you think you have enough pets?
ANGLE: PENNY AND THE CREATURE92 92
The animal has rolled onto its back, its coloring mimicking the mottled tones of the fruit it balances on the heels of all four palms.
PENNYNo. They seem to have a very close-nit family grouping. It would be wrong to take one away and keep it.
JUDYI just cant believe its so friendly. After all the things theyve throw at us.
ANGLE: DR. SMITH AND DON93 93
DONYeah, its nice to finally get to eat outside without the buzz of the force-field. Why did they stop throwing stuff, anyway?
DR. SMITHIts treachery. Wait and see. Mark my words, when we are least expecting it, they will attack. And no doubt, en masse, too!
ANGLE: PENNY94 94
Shes picked up the Creature, which has CHANGED COLOR to match her CLOTHES. She WALKS toward the table.
PENNYOh, Dr. Smith, dont be silly. Theyre territorial. Thats all, Weve been here long enough now that they respect the camp as our territory.
ANGLE: DR. SMITH AND THE CREATURE95 95
Dr. Smith PEERS as it with DEEP SUSPICION.
23.
DR. SMITHA spy! Probing our defenses! Probably on a diabolical mission of espionage.
The Creature HISSES at Dr. Smith and FADES from view, still in Pennys arms.
ANGLE: DON96 96
DONEspionage? Really, Smith? Now, thats not a subject youd happen to know anything about, is it?
DR. SMITHMind your tongue, Major! Or I suggest you sleep with one eye open!
ANGLE: DON97 97
LEAPING from his chair and GRABBING at Smith.
DON(angry)
Just what the hell is that supposed to mean?
JUDYDON!
His quick movement startles the creature, which leaps from Pennys arms to the table. It is barely visible.
PENNYYoure scaring her!
ANGLE: JUDY AND DON98 98
Shes up and leading Don away from the table.
JUDYDon, why dont you and I take a little walk?
The Creature has FLED across the table to Will. It matches his red hair, clinging to him for security.
PENNYShe sure likes you, Will.
24.
ANGLE: WILL 99 99
PUSHING the creature away.
WILLThats nice . . .
ANGLE: MAUREEN 100 100
CONCERNED.
MAUREENWhats wrong, Will? Are you not feeling well? You barely touched your dinner.
WILLIm okay. Dad, how did the field-survey go? Did you find any interesting specimens?
ANGLE: JOHN101 101
JOHNNo. Not much at all. In fact, a spot-analysis was all that was necessary. The samples were that poor.
The Creature has begun to eat from some of the dishes on the table.
WILL(disappointed)
You didnt bring back anything for me to analyze?
ANGLE: DR. SMITH102 102
UPSET.
DR. SMITHMadam, is it necessary that this anthropomorphic hair-ball be on the table while Im trying to eat? Its certain to destroy my repast.
MAUREENPenny, get her down. Wont you, dear?
25.
ANGLE: ALL103 103
As Penny LIFTS the Creature, it GRABS another handful of food from a plate.
JOHNIm sorry, son, but the spot-analysis was all--Penny! How much does that animal eat?
PENNYShe has a very high metabolism. The more she camouflages, the more energy she uses. Her family must spend all day eating just to keep from starving.
ANGLE: WILL 104 104
BOLTING from his chair and away from the table.
WILL(angry)
May I be excused, please?
The Creature in Pennys arms is WATCHING Will. It has turned BRIGHT RED, hair standing on end in response to Wills actions.
MAUREENWill?
ANGLE: ALL105 105
As Will STALKS angrily toward the spaceship.
MAUREENNow, what do you suppose is the matter with him?
JOHNHes feeling left out, I guess. Upset because he missed the survey.
Penny HOLDS the Creature with PRIDE.
PENNYHes just jealous hes not getting all the attention.
26.
ANGLE: DR. SMITH106 106
HAUGHTY.
DR. SMITHAmateurs . . .
ANGLE: MAUREEN AND JOHN107 107
MAUREENWell, Dr. Smith, give us your informed diagnosis. If you dont mind.
JOHNYes, Smith. Do you know something the rest of us dont?
ANGLE: DR. SMITH108 108
DR. SMITHNothing that isnt there before your very eyes, were you not too blind to see it.
ANGLE: JOHN AND DR. SMITH109 109
JOHNPlease, continue . . .
DR SMITHWilliams behavior is symptomatic of a depressive state, These mood swings have not simply manifested. Theyve been going on for some time. Witness the episode with the ball only this last night past.
ANGLE: DR SMITH110 110
Abundantly pleased with how own expert opinion.
DR. SMITHA boy, dear friends, a young man, alone out here without, shall we say appropriate companionship. Female companionship. Surely, even you can see hes suffering from sexual frustrations.
27.
ANGLE: PENNY111 111
She is SHOCKED and EMBARRASSED. Self-conscious now, herself. She MOVES AWAY with the Creature in arms.
PENNYMay . . . may we be excused now?
ANGLE: MAUREEN 112 112
ANGRY.
MAUREENDr. Smith! That was uncalled for! Embarrassing Penny that way! We understand the pressures on the children and we--
DR. SMITHPrecisely the point, Madam! They are children, no longer.
ANGLE: JOHN113 113
JOHNWill and I have spoken about this, Smith. And--
DR. SMITHRaging hormones cannot be controlled with discussion, Professor.
The ROBOT approaches the table.
ANGLE: THE ROBOT114 114
ROBOTDr. Smith. You wished to be informed at the arrival of 19:30 hours. It is now that time.
Smith has ARISEN from the table, tossing aside his napkin.
DR. SMITHIndeed. Professor . . . Madam . . . Tasks await!
28.
ANGLE: JOHN AND MAUREEN115 115
As Smith DEPARTS with the ROBOT.
DR. SMITHYou, Booby! Come with me!
MAUREENWhat do you suppose hes up to now?
JOHNI dont know, but Ill bet whatever it is, I wont like it.
CUT TO:

PENNYWill! Everythings always a big deal with Will! He always gets a big discussion!
ANGLE: THE CREATURE117 117
Which has STOPPED. It stands near the BALL, STARING into the brush with LARGE, CURIOUS EYES.
PENNYHey! Are you tired of playing? Bring back the ball, you silly!
ANGLE: PENNY AND THE CREATURE118 118
The Creature DOESNT MOVE.
PENNYWhats the matter with you? What are you--
ANGLE: THE CREATURE119 119
STARING into the BRUSH.
PENNY--looking at . . . ?
29.

There is a HINT of RED around the Creature as it stares.
