A WORD FROM THE EDITOR

by: Uncle Jerry

Well I’m back!! I am very happy to be part of this magazine. As you know, Kent Hunter and I started this rag back in Oct 2012. We wanted to give bikers

a chance to read a real biker magazine. Well, things shifted in Nov. of 2012 when Kent and I disappeared from the magazine. Some other guy took it over and he didn’t last very long. The last Editor started out doing well but, through the months of her leadership, the magazine was brought down to a level that some people called “sleazy”. That was said to me by many of our current and prospective advertisers. I do not have a problem in putting Bikini clad gals in the rag, but too much is too much. In the coming months we will have our calendar gal graceing our INFORMATION calendar (why have a calendar with no events posted DUH?) New events, new columns and lots of bikes will be added. This is a biker rag, not a girlie magazine. This next change will be for lady riders, HOT DUDES on a bike. Ladies, I hope you will like this addition. Guys, turn your head! Some of the other changes will be, a free 1/4 page color ad for any biker related 501.C3 organization or a worthy cause for a downed biker family. This will be first come, first served on a availability basis subject to approval. Photos of pets up for adoption from local animal shelters, up to date jokes (not canned like other rags) from some of my sick friends, a “bitch “column where I want to hear from you, good or bad. A Biker Beard contest is also in the planning stages. If you have any more ideas, please email me with your suggestions. A Veterans Corner with up to date info for our vets. Remember I am a 25 year US Navy veteran. I am proud to have served and I want to help our brothers and sisters. Safety tips from one of the best instructors with HDNO. Lots of other articles that will come up in the near future. I want to make this rag #1 in the area. As of now, we will distribute about 150 miles out from New Orleans. But in the very near future I plan to branch out all over the state and then to the entire USA. Yes, I have big dreams, but it will take a team (TEAM STANDS FOR T. to-gether E. everyone A. accomplishes M. more). Rubber Down prides itself on operating with honesty, fair prices and great representatives. I will not stand for incompetence. Mistakes happen, that is why erasers and white out were invented, but making them over and over will not happen on my watch. So let me know what you think. Send me an email or call. I want all our riders to be a part of this magazine.Always remember, “KEEP THE RUBBER SIDE DOWN & THE SHINY SIDE UP”

Hi! My name is Peter and I live in Sweden I am 49 years old, and live in a suburb of Stockholm called Södertälje. I have always

changed and rebuilt bicycles, mopeds, boats, cars and motorcycles. It has been difficult to have something that no one else has, I have to put my own style on it. We have three Harley Davidson in the family now that I have built, the first one is a FXR Trike to my wife, she has a muscle disease, so she can not run a standard motorcycle. Then I built my Sportster chop-per that has been published by many magazines in the United States, England, Germany, Spain, France, Austria and Sweden. Last year my wife’s daughter wanted to ride with us, so I built her a Sportster to this season, the only thing she wanted was purple and that there would be a crown somewhere. So that’s how the name “Purple Queen” became about. Her name is Janine Nikula and she is 22 years old. She is studying music, singing, drama and dance. She started to ride a bike late last summer and she got her driving license this summer (2012). She has always liked to ride with us and now with her own license and bike, she has been joining us on the roads and bike shows a lot. Janine appreciates her bike and thinks it is nice and smooth to drive. “It’s really a nice sidekick from the daily life.”My ideas started when I saw Moons Sportster and thought the style was awesome. I had met on the internet Andrea Gallinaro from Italy who engraves. I like the 70s style engrav-ing, flake paint and gold. So I made a mix from Sportster bobber and 70s chopper.I started with an original Sportster that I tore down completely. I cut away the rear brack-et for the stock fenders and welded new mounts for turn signals, raised the mountingpoint for gas tank, cut out and reinforced the frame in front to make a cleaner look. Bracket for the ignition switch was moved

and welded to the battery box, bracket for the new rear fender was made. Brackets for solo saddle was welded after that the frame was powder satin black. The wheels I tore down, hubs powder coated satin black, then I built up the wheels with twisted spokes and brass nipples and old style tires were mounted. The fork I tore down and all the brackets were cut away from the triple trees, then I sent all the parts from the fork and all engine covers to Andrea in Italy for engraving and polishing. The engine is almost un-touched, what’s done is engraving on all covers, cyl-inders are powder coated, special bracket in polished stainless steel with integrated speedometer to the upper engine mount, and all bolts have brass covers. Brass point cover from Indian Larry. The handlebar is Biltwells frisco I welded risers for a cleaner look. I installed an internal throttle and electricity was drawn to two mini switches, one in the side of the grip for high /low light and horn and the brass mount from Kustom Tech Italy a mini switch for turn lights. All electricity is newly drawn, mini turn signals in front and Kellermann Micro 1000 for the rear Reg plate was moved down to the left side with a new bracket from powder coated steel and brass. All parts were left to Daniel on Air brush studio in Stockholm who painted mini flake paint and text. I have tried to find as much brass parts as possible, I think it has been a good combination. The exhaust system is made by my friend Kent, Ace Performance and I have rebuilt the mufflers with brass trumpets.Peter StrömStockholm / Sweden

“WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF BROTHERHOOD”

BIKER LIFEand Cultureby: Pat “Road Hog” Patterson

RUBBER DOWN MAGAZINE NOVEMBER 2013 PAGE 14

OSB-RoadHog Founder

Brotherhood of Old School BikersLoyalty-Honor-Respect

http://brotherhood-osb.tripod.com

There are many view-points and

varying defini-tions of Brother-hood, and most of

them although sounding somewhat different are still on the mark.I have come to a conclusion in my many years of being involved in this lifestyle that it’s kind of like love and ethics, when you truly have it in your life, you’ll know it. Kind of like the saying you see on some bike shirts, “If I have to explain, you wouldn’t understand.” I have over the years experienced many examples of true Brotherhood and the very best that the biker lifestyle has to offer. One such example stands out in my mind and although it happened back in 1993, it remains as vivid as if it happened yesterday. I was at a large four day biker event that is held yearly and my bike broke down, well I asked one guy who happened to be a member of a very large M/C if he had a tool that I had mistakenly left at home.Well it wasn’t long before I had enough guys to form a class A pit crew and one actually loaned me money to make up for my lack of funds for parts that I needed. These guys checked with me often to make sure that I had everything under control or if I needed any help. I only knew two of the more then five or six guys that offered

we’re on this subject of Brother-hood and how we have seen some great examples of it, let’s explore the other side of the coin or the negative side. I’ll give you one of my experiences as an example, I was on my way to a major bike event when the inevitable hap-pened, and yes I broke down. Now although a very simple problem of a clogged fuel filter, it could have been a major malfunction. As I sat on the side of the very busy interstate highway, multitudes of happy bike riders on their way to the very same bike event as myself passed by me and offered me what they probably thought was very friendly biker wave and the real biker thing to do. (WRONG) Now I’m sure that some of these riders that I have just described that passed me by with a friendly wave, probably consider them-selves as real righteous bikers. But the old guys that taught and molded me as a biker would not have considered them to be very

righteous, much less bikers. As I set about cleaning the fuel fil-ter on my old hog and accepting all these friendly waves, an old beat up rat bike pulled up and stopped. Its rider looked like he had been on the road for months and the bike looked as though it hadn’t ever been cleaned but the ragged looking biker was the

first and only one to stop and see if he could be of any help. Well I ex-plained that it was

only a clogged fuel filter and I was almost done with the job, this guy said, “Well the side of the road is no place for a biker to be without at least some mor-al support.” So me and the old rugged looking biker finished up my minor repair and rode the rest of the way together, Broth-ers in the wind.I may never see this biker again in my lifetime, but you don’t forget these gifts of Brother-hood from true bikers for as long as you live. Try passing on the “Old Ways” by stopping to help the next biker you see stopped no the side of the road, you just might make a friend for life…Until next time “KEEP THE RUBBER DOWN”

help that day, and I came away from what could have been a very bad experience with a good feel-ing and several new friends. These guys didn’t need to take time away their weekend of fun to help a biker they didn’t even know, but they were true bikers in the every respect and the feeling of Brother-hood just kicked in. Ok while

Its rider looked like he had been on the road for months and the bike looked as though it hadn’t ever been cleaned, but the ragged looking biker was the first and only one to stop and see if he could be of any help.“

The inventor of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Arthur David-son , died and went to heaven. At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur. “Since you’ve been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is, you can hang out with any-one you want to in heaven.” Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said, “I want to hang out with God.”

St. Peter took Arthur to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God. God recognized Arthur and commented, “Okay, so you were the one who invented the Harley-Davidson motorcycle?” Arthur said, “Yeah, that’s me...” God commented, “Well, what’s the big deal in inventing something that’s pretty unstable, makes noise and pollution and can’t run without a road?” Arthur was a bit embarrassed, but finally spoke, “Excuse me, but aren’t you the inventor of woman?” God said, “Ah, yes.” “Well,” said Ar-thur, professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention:

1. There’s too much inconsistency in the front-end suspension. 2... It chatters constantly at high speeds.3. Most rear ends are too soft and wobble about too much.4. The intake is placed way too close to the exhaust. 5. The maintenance costs are outrageous!!!!

“Hmmmmm, you may have some good points there,” replied God, “hold on.” God went to his Celestial supercomputer, typed in a few words and waited for the results. The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read it.“Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed,” God said to Arthur, “but according to these numbers, more men are riding my invention than yours.”

Square Testicles This is a joke that is supposed to bring you luck.An elderly woman walked into the Royal Bank of Canada one morning with a purse full of money. She wanted to open a savings account and insisted on talking to the president of the Bank because, she said, she had a lot of money. After many lengthy discussions (after all, the client is always right) an employee took the elderly woman to the president’s office. The president of the Bank asked her how much she wanted to deposit. She placed her purse on his desk and replied, ‘$165,000’. The presi-dent was curious and asked her how she had been able to save so much money . The elderly woman replied that she made bets. The president was surprised and asked, “What kind of bets?”The elderly woman replied, “Well, I bet you $25,000 that your testicles are square.”The president started to laugh and told the woman that it was impos-sible to win a bet like that. The woman never batted an eye. She just looked at the president and said, “Would you like to take my bet?”“Certainly”, replied the president. “I bet you $25,000 that my testicles are not square.”“Done”, the elderly woman answered. “But given the amount of money involved, if you don’t mind I would like to come back at 10 O’clock

Please, take care of yourself this Holiday Season. A recent joint study conducted by the Department of Health and the Department of Motor Vehicles indicates that 23% of traffic accidents are alcohol related. This means that the remain-ing 77% are caused by assholes who just drink coffee, carbonated drinks, juices, milk, water, and shit like that. There-

fore, beware of those who do not drink alcohol. They cause three times as many accidents. This message is sent by someone who cares about your well being.

tomorrow morning with my lawyer as a witness.” “No problem”, said the president of the Bank confidently. That night, the president became very nervous about the bet and spent a long time in front of the mirror examining his testicles, turning them this way and that, checking them over again and again until he was positive that no one could consider his testicles as square and reassuring himself that there was no way he could lose the bet.The next morning at exactly 10 O’clock the elderly woman arrived at the president’s office with her lawyer and acknowledged the $25,000 bet made the day before that the president’s testicles were square. The president confirmed that the bet was the same as the one made the day before. Then the elderly woman asked him to drop his pants etc. so that she and her lawyer could see clearly. The president was happy to oblige. The elderly woman came closer so she could see better and asked the president if she could touch them. “Of course”, said the president. “Given the amount of money involved, you should be 100% sure.”The elderly woman did so with a little smile. Suddenly the president noticed that the lawyer was banging his head against the wall. He asked the elderly woman why he was doing that and she replied, “Oh, it’s probably because I bet him $100,000 that around 10 o’clock in the morning I would be holding the balls of the President of the Royal Bank of Canada !”

Helga’s Diary on a Cruise ShipDEAR DIARY - DAY 1All packed for the cruise ship -- all my nicest dresses, swim-suits, short sets. Really, really exciting. Our local Red Hat chapter - The Late Bloomers decided on this “all-girls” trip. It will be my first one, - and I can’t wait!DEAR DIARY - DAY 2Entire day at sea, beautiful. Saw whales and dolphins. Met the Captain today -- seems like a very nice man.DEAR DIARY - DAY 3At the pool today. Did some shuffleboard, hit golf balls off the deck. Captain invited me to join him at his table for dinner. Felt honored and had a wonderful time. He is very attractive and attentive.DEAR DIARY - DAY 4Won $800.00 in the ship’s casino. Captain asked me to have dinner with him in his own cabin. Had a scrumptious meal complete with caviar and champagne. He asked me to stay the night, but I declined. Told him I could not be unfaithful to my husband.DEAR DIARY - DAY 5Pool again today. Got sunburned, and I went inside to drink at piano-bar, stayed there for rest of day. Captain saw me, bought me several large drinks.Really is quite charming. Again asked me to visit his cabin for the night. Again I declined. He told me, if I did not let him have his way with me, he would sink the ship... I was shocked.DEAR DIARY - DAY 6Today I saved 2600 lives.Twice. I never really liked the term “Old Person” but this makes me feel better about it. And, if

you ain’t one, I’ll bet you know one! I got this from an “Old Personal friend of mine”!

OLD PERSON PRIDE

- Old People are easy to spot at sporting events; during the playing of the National Anthem. Old People remove their caps and stand at attention and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believe in them.- Old People remember World War II, Pearl Harbor , Guadal-canal , Normandy and Hitler. They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War, The Cold War, the Jet Age and the Moon Landing. They remember the 50 plus Peacekeeping Missions from 1945 to 2005, not to mention Vietnam .- If you bump into an Old People on the sidewalk he will apologize. If you pass an Old Person on the street, he will nod

or tip his cap to a lady. Old People trust strangers and are courtly to women.- Old People hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection.- Old People get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don’t like any filth or dirty language on TV or in movies.- Old People have moral courage and personal integrity. They sel-dom brag unless it’s about their children or grandchildren.- It’s the Old People who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military serv-ing their country. This country needs Old People with their work ethic, sense of re-sponsibility, pride in their country, love of God and decent values. We need them now more than ever.Thank God for Old People I was taught to respect my elders. It’s just getting harder to find them.

When you get older, words to live by:1. NEVER pass up a bathroom2. NEVER pass up an erection.

3. NEVER hold in a fart.

TRIBUTE To

Kathryn, a Regis-tered Nurse, never thought she would

be a motorcyclist at the age of 58. She thought back to when she was

a young teenager. She had ridden with some crazy friends throwing caution to the wind.

As she matured she realized how fragile life was and preferred less adventurous means of travel. Kathryn explained how she had spent some time with some old friends and they had taken her for rides. She re-ally enjoyed the freedom of riding. It wasn’t long before she had the desire to ride her own bike. She enrolled in a Riders Edge course for Motorcycles. The instructors were excellent and was a skilled rider before long.

She is a Harley girl and loves her purple and black 2011 Harley Softail Deluxe. Its a magnificent piece of machinery that she named “BLING” . Kathryn smiles as she explains how she is always looking for new shinny Harley accessories to add to her bike. Kathryn admits she has become somewhat of a Chrome-a-holic (if there is such a thing). Kathryn has noticed lots of other women who have moved from the back seat to the controls of there own bike. She has met so many wonderful people who share the same passions of motorcycling. Kathryn is an active member of M.AC. (Motorcycle Awareness Campaign) whose mission is to remind all motorists to look for Motorcycles.Kathryn turned 60 recently, she spoke of a future trip with friends to Arkansas. which will be her longest distance on a bike. Kathryn is looking forward to set-ting more milestones on her great adventures riding her Harley. We wish Kathryn Safe travels for many years to come.

Ever wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phone? What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets?

What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it?

What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it?

What if we gave it to Kids as gifts? What if we used it when we traveled?

What if we used it in case of emergency? This is something to make you go....hmm...where is my Bible?

Oh, and one more thing.Unlike our cell phone, we don’t have to worry about our Bible being disconnected because Jesus already paid the bill.

Makes you stop and think ‘where are my priorities? And no dropped calls! When Jesus died on the cross, he was thinking of you!

Veterans C o l u m n

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has implement-ed a program designed to ad-

judicate claims for compensation and pension in a more quickly and efficient manner. It’s called

the Fully Developed Claim (FDC) and filing a claim this way could shave months off of the already lengthy process. The FDC process allows the claimant to submit all evidence at once, thereby giving the VA all the substantiation needed to support the claim. This is especially helpful if only Federal records are needed, such as a DD-214, service treatment records, VA medi-cal records, etc. The VA will obtain these records if you don’t have a copy to submit. However, if private medical records are needed, you MUST obtain these records and submit them along with a completed VA Form 21-526EZ. Failure to submit private records will result in the claim being removed from the FDC program and having it placed in the traditional claim process.

The number one question I am asked is “How long will it take

to have my claim decided”? I answer that question with another question: “How big is a rock”? In other words, it depends. It depends on many factors such as the type of claim, the amount of issues claimed, the type of evidence to support the claims, etc. The process can be intimidating and confusing to the inexperienced claimant. Veteran’s Service Organizations exist specifically to as-sist veterans with claims. The Military Order of the Purple Heart (MOPH), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), AMVETS, and Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) are just a few of the local or-ganizations that can assist, and there is never a charge for services.

Biker Billy was born Billy Jackson in a small town like so many other non

descript little mid western towns, if you were traveling west you would probably breeze right through it’s

one traffic light without even knowing it existed. When Billy was about ten years old he got hooked on bikes through contact with a bunch of old WWII Veterans who rode old Harley’s and Indian Mo-torcycles and had formed a very tight little group. When Billy was about fourteen years old he got his first bike, an old 1940 Harley Davidson Flat Head which made him very happy and proud. Billy rode his trusty steed every chance he got and would talk about it with anyone who would listen, he eventu-ally hooked up with that old veterans group who taught him everything he needed to know about the biker lifestyle like “Honor-Respect and Loyalty”.

While riding with this group Billy made a couple of very close friends and Brothers one of them he lost in a very bad wreck with a cage while they were riding and Billy never forgot that accident or his Brother. Billy rode with this group for quite awhile and learned the biker ways from his older mentors, although Billy enjoyed their company and wisdom he eventually drifted away from the group to ride with bikers closer to his own age.Billy worked in a motorcycle shop for several years and learned more about bikes and the biker lifestyle as his boss was a pro flat track racer and made the race circuit every season.Billy traveled the motorcycle racing circuit with his boss for several years first as part of the pit crew and later tried his hand at short track and TT Scramble racing.

Somewhere around seventeen Billy started travel-ing around the country, in these travels Billy met many people, some regular folks and some very righteous bikers. It was around this time that Billy started having some very interesting experiences

and fell in with some hard core bikers who would fur-ther his biker education. By the time Billy was eighteen or nineteen he was riding with some serious bikers and was very deep into the biker life and had experienced more then men twice his age. It was about this time that Billy found himself in a large east coast city with several Motorcycle Clubs and a very large biker com-munity to which Billy became part of very quick and made many close friends and associates. It was here in this city that Billy and several friends got caught up in a very large biker party at which several laws were bro-ken and several people were injured including a female civilian. Billy and his friends exercised good judgment and left the party and rode back to the town they lived in and escaped the trouble that fell upon the party they had attended.See next months issue for the continuing sagas of “THE ADVENTURES OF BIKER BILLY”

for the hard work and dedication to me and our bar. So everyone come and check out our two best bartenders on the WestBank at Moe’s Corner Bar.

Bartender of the MONTH

Hi, My name is Melissa Boyd, known as Moe. I am from Belle Chasse and I own Moe’s Corner Bar at 5201 4th St. and the cor-ner of Ave. I in Marrero. I opened my bar on July 23, 2013. I have been in the bar business for 26 years. An opportunity came to open a bar and with some help from good friends, Evelyn and Timmy Haygood, the owners of the Doghouse in gretna, I

was able to make a dream come true. I would like to take this time to thank each one of my friends. Without ya’ll I wouldn’t have my dream. Since I opened Moe’s Corner Bar I have run into an old and dear friend of mine. Dennis Mayfield Sr. He is from Marrero. He also has a dream of opening a bar. So Dennis has come to me and made me an off I couldn’t refuse. So as of Nov. 1st Dennis and I will be partners. We will also be changing the name from Moe’s Corner Bar to Moe’s and Big D’s Stumble In. I am very excited to go in to buisiness with Dennis. I am sure great things will come out of us being partners. Starting on Dec. 1st we will have specials everyday. So come on to Moe’s and Big D’s Stumble In and have a good time!
