Love the Lord . . . With All Your Mind! Elaine Obbink, Administrator

“Christian school are good if your child is not interested in math or

science.” Recently, this comment was shared with me by a fellow MCS

parent who was greatly concerned by this declaration. We agreed, nothing

could be further from the truth! Science and math reveal to us and our

students the complexity and the infinite wisdom that God expresses to us

as we learn more about Him and His world.

Scripture is clear from beginning to end:

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)

Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, or with the

breadth of his hand marked off the heavens? Who has held the dust of

the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the

hills in a balance? (Isaiah 40:12)

For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal

power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood

from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. (Romans 1:20)

God reveals Himself through His Divine Word, Scripture, and through His

handiwork, nature. They are not to be at odds one with the other;

rather, science and math bring richness to our understanding of God and

His creation. God the Creator designed all that we see and all that we

don’t see, and He continually reveals Himself to us as Father, Savior, and

Friend.

The MCS students love the old hymn, “This is My Father’s World.”

This is my father's world, and to my listening ears

All nature sings, and round me rings the music of the spheres.

It is our prayer that as the students grow and learn more about the

mysteries of this world, they will be drawn closer to the Creator,

knowing that science and math show off God’s majesty, order, and

creativity. Help us, Lord, not to compartmentalize our learning but to be

filled with awe, wonder, and a continual thirst for knowledge of Your

world and Your ways.

“Love the Lord …. with all your mind.” It is a consuming love, one that

demands our hearts, our souls, our strength, and our minds.

(Luke 10:27)

quickly! The price for each balloon is $20. Inside each balloon is

a slip of paper with your win of a mystery prize or gift certificate

worth the purchase price or more. Purchase a balloon by

providing your bid number to the attendant at the balloon table.

But WAIT! Don’t pop your balloon(s) until the announcement is

made to do so during the start of the Live Auction. Bring the

numbered paper slip from inside your balloon to the balloon table

to claim your prize.

Geraniums

Don’t miss the beautiful GERANIUMS from Wells-Medina

Nursery. The price per flat of 8 plants is only $40! Write your

bidder number on the bid sheet. If you want a particular flat,

write your name and bidder number on a sticker and put it on the

flat you would like. If you want more than one flat, please write

your bidder number for each flat. At the end of the evening, take

your beautiful plants with you and ENJOY!

Jelly Belly Raffle

Love Jelly Bellies? Check out the awesome jar from Sweet Buffet

Lady filled with your favorites! Raffle tickets are $5 for 5 tickets

($5 increments only, please.) Just write your bidder number on

the sheet by the jar and take your portion of the tickets. The

drawing will take place during the Live Auction.

Dessert Dash

It’s fun! It’s fast! It’s delicious! Simply, it is the opportunity for

you and your fellow table members to win, and share, a delectable

treat for dessert!

How does your table get the dessert you want?

1. PREVIEW the tempting desserts on the dessert tables.

2. BID: You and your tablemates write your bidder

numbers, and bid amounts, on the Dessert Dash bid card

located in the center of your table. Your table will work

together to make your table’s total donation the highest in

the room. BID HIGH!

3. TURN IN: Your table’s bid card will be collected during

the LIVE Auction.

4. LISTEN for your table number. Each table will be tallied

and ranked by its total bids. The table with the highest

total will be called first by the auctioneer.

5. DASH: Be ready to dash! One representative from each

table will dash (with caution, please!) to the dessert table

and claim your dessert. Make your choice and return to

your table (look out for other “dashers” along the way!).

6. ENJOY: Sit back with your tablemates and enjoy your

dessert!

6

Heads or Tails

The MCS Kindergarten/1st grade class has created a fantastic

chocolate basket! How do you go home with this treasure? By

playing “Heads or Tails.” For the small “play fee” of only $10 per

participant, you can play to win the entire basket!

Every table has a bid sheet. Each person who wants to play will

fill in their bidder number on the bid sheet. If you share a bidder

number with another guest, and you would both like to play,

please write your bidder number twice. Don’t wait too long to

fill in your bidder number – these sheets will be collected early in

the Live Auction. Then, when the game is played, just follow the

auctioneer’s instructions! The game will be played by process of

elimination until only the winner remains.

Fund-A-Need

At some point during the Live Auction, the Auctioneer will

announce the opportunity to give directly to specific school

needs. The auctioneer will call out specific amounts; i.e., “Who

can give $1,000 ($500, $250, etc.)?” Hold up your bidder number

when he calls out the amount you would like to give. Keep your

number raised until you know your number has been recorded.

This year, your donations will go toward four areas of need:

1. New plumbing installed for original building - $5,000

2. Purchase 21 new computers for Computer Lab - $4,400

3. Attic insulation for original building - $4,000

Above and Beyond: New emergency exit doors for the six (6)

classrooms in original building.

7

Auction Information & Rules

an auction catalog, bidder number, and table assignment. Keep

your bidder number with you. By bidding in the Live or Silent

Auction, each bidder agrees to the auction rules noted in each

section below.

in the Silent Auctions will have bid forms adjacent to them. If you

want to bid on an item, do so by writing your bid number on the

bidding sheet. Bids must be opened and raised as specified by the

pre-determined amounts on each bid sheet. Write your bidder

number legibly! Return to bid on any item as often as you would

like. Bidders – please step back and allow free access to

bidding on this item closes immediately and you are the winner!

(Don’t take your item till the end of the evening.)

Watch the time! The rooms will close at separate times.

You will receive a notice of the silent items you won during the

dinner, but this will not include any Live Auction items or other

purchases. At the close of the evening, you will pay for your

items at check-out with all other purchases and pick up your

items in the Silent Auction rooms.

8

Live Auction: The Live Auction will begin during dinner and will

continue until all items have been auctioned. To bid in the Live

Auction, raise your numbered bidder card. The auctioneer will

determine who the successful bidder is. Live Auction winning bids

are acknowledged by the auctioneer and will constitute a legal

contract to buy.
