The Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive

Loveland Elementary will once again sponsor a fundraiser for the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive campaign.

The *Pajama Program (in partnership with Carter’s and Scholastic Book Club) is a national 501(c)3 organization that provides new pajamas and books to children in need, many of whom are waiting and hoping to be adopted. Snug-gling up in cozy new pajamas with their very own new book gives these children a secure and nurturing ‘Good Night’ at bedtime. You can help by joining our campaign to deliver One Million Good Nights to children who need them most. Here’s what’s needed:

• Brand-new (unused) pajamas in all sizes, from newborn to adult (up to age 18-Adult sizes Small to XXXL!)

• Pajamas must be complete sets—a top and bottom or an appropriate nightgown.

• Pajamas for all seasons, but especially for the winter months.

Items can be brought to the school’s office between Novem-ber 27th and December 8th. Thank you for participating in this worthwhile cause.

Fourth Grade Kindness Retreat

All 4th grade students at Loveland have the opportunity to go and participate in the Kindness Retreat on November 8th at WHS. The Kindness Retreat is funded through the Loveland Community Club teacher grant fund. The Kind-ness Retreat program builds positive school communities that help young people realize the importance of respect-ing themselves and others. The vision is to change the way young people treat each other in every hallway, lunch line and classroom of every school in America so that today’s young people make tomorrow’s world better. Thank you LCC for providing these great opportunities for our Loveland students. Ms. Hornung

Box TopsWE ARE THANKFUL FOR OUR BOX TOPS

PROGRAM!Since beginning the Box Tops program at Loveland, we have earned a total of $15,866.07 for our school. What an easy way to get FREE money! We appreciate YOU for donat-ing those Box Tops each month. Please clip, trim, and send UNexpired Box Tops on the collection sheets or in baggies to school each month. Include your name and teacher’s name when submitting your Box Tops. It is our easiest way of fundraising!

Thank you to Lucas Agulla, Jadyn Anderson, Jack Hawkins,Jasmine Palikhya, and Kate Stevens for organizing the Box Tops since school started. The class turning in the mostBox Tops for November/December will receive a special prize!

TardinessPunctuality is an important part of our adult lives. It enhances our social as well as our work lives. Things run smoother when people are on time. This is why we address absences and tardies. Through excessive tardiness, we send the message to our child that, “It’s okay to be late.” That can also be a message that carries into their professional lives. If your child is 5 minutes late every day for school, at the end of the year they will have missed approximately 2.5 days of school. Coming in late does not set a positive tone to the beginning of a person’s day. Punctuality is a small piece of the picture of success but very important. Please make sure your child is here so he/she can get the same start as all the others in the class.

EmailEmail is a great way to communicate with your child’s teacher. The Westsisde format is as follows:[email protected]: [email protected]

School AttendanceNebraska law mandates that schools report any student to the County Attorney who has missed more than 20 school days or the hourly equivalent (i.e., accumulation of hours missed because of tardies, early release and/or partial at-tendance days) during each school year. This includes all absences whether or not if they are excused or unexcused.

We know that regular school attendance is a key factor in the academic success of our students. We also recognize that regular school attendance helps to develop habits of punc-tuality, self-discipline and responsibility in our students. Therefore, it is important that your child attends school daily and we ask for your cooperation in reaching that goal.

Visiting ProceduresSchool safety is very important to us at Loveland. All visi-tors must ring the bell outside the main entrance, in order to enter the building. Parents and visitors may be asked to show ID if we do not recognize or if we are unsure of your identification. Visitors must report directly to the main of-fice to sign in and receive a visitor’s pass. These procedures allow for a safe learning environment for our students. We thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Hy-Vee’s Cash For Students Program

The CASH FOR STUDENTS PROGRAM is a fundraising program that gives the school $1 for every $200 spent at all Omaha and Council Bluffs Hy-Vee stores, gas stations, and pharmacies Each student will be sent home a baggie for collecting all Hy-Vee receipts dated September 1, 2017-De-cember 31, 2017. Please collect all of your receipts and family member’s receipts and turn them to the box by the office or to your teacher throughout this time period. The Hy-Vee on 90th and Center also has a Loveland box located by customer service that you can drop your receipts! Thanks for all of your help with this amazing fundraising opportuni-ty! This is an easy way for us to make money for the school to help with your child’s field trips, classroom activities, etc. If you have any questions please contact Kelly Collins, [email protected].

Lunch Balance RemindersPlease remember lunch accounts need to maintain a positive balance. When sending money, be sure to include yourchild’s name on the envelope or check. You can also deposit money into your child’s account online by usingMySchoolBucks.

Joining Your Children for Lunch

Parents, we like to have you join your children for lunch, and they love having you visit. If you would like to order a school lunch, please call before 9:00 am to order. When you arrive, don’t forget to stop at the office, sign in, grab a visitor badge, and pay for your lunch. The office can not make change. However, if you don’t have the exact amount we will be happy to add any remaining dollars to your student’s lunch account.

Flu SeasonPlease remember our health policy if the flu bug visits your family. Students must be symptom free without medicinefor 24 hours before returning to school. If your child is vomiting, has diarrhea, or running a fever of 100 or more, they need to stay home.

Museum Expectations: We will discuss rules and expectations in art class. Please help remind your child of these rules and expectations by reviewing prior to their museum date. During your visit to Joslyn, we ask for your help in caring for the Museum — the building, the art, and others who are visiting. Some things you will want to know in advance of your visit:

• Please don't touch! • Because others are touring The Joslyn at the same time, we ask your conversations with

others be kept to a minimum while making sure your voice level is at a whisper level. • Sketching with pencils is allowed in the galleries • Large bags, food, and drink are not permitted in the galleries
