OVERVIEW

Case 36743, Sample Delivery Group (SDG)MCT1H6, consisted of three (3) waste samples analyzed for total metals and cyanide (GN") by Chemtech Consulting Group (CHEM). The sample set contained no field Quality Control (QC) samples. Samples were analyzed in accordance with Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) Statement of Work (SOW) ILM05.4 .through Routine Analytical Services (RAS) program.

SUMMARY

Data were validated according to Region EI Modifications to the National Functional Guidelines for Inorganic Data Review, Level IM2. Areas of concern with respect to data usability are listed below.

Data in this case have been impacted by outliers present in the technical holding time and laboratory blanks as well as the ICP serial dilution analysis.: Details of these outliers are discussed under "Minor Problems", specific samples affected are outUned in "Table 1 A" and qualified analytical results for all samples are summarized on a single Data Summary Form (DSF).

AR100014

Page 2 of3

MINOR PROBLEMS

The aqueous technical holding time of fourteen (14) days fi-om time of sample collection to sample analysis for CN" has been exceeded by seven (7) days for all samples. Although no technical holding time has been established for soil samples, the aqueous holding time was applied by the reviewer. Positive results for this analyte in sample MCT1H7 may be biased low. The "L" qualifier for this outlier in this sample has been superseded by "P' on the DSF. Quantitation limits for this analyte in affected samples may be biased low and has been qualified "UL" on the DSF.

Continuing calibration blanks (CCBs) had reported results greater than the Method Detection Limits (MDLs) for mercury (Hg) and potassium (K). Positive results for these analytes in affected samples, which are less than or equal to five times ( ^ X ) the blank concentrations, may be biased high and have been qualified "B" on the DSF.

CCBs and/or the preparation blank (PB) had, negative results greater than the absolute values of the MDLs regarding the analytes listed below. Quantitation limits for these analytes in sample MCT1H7 may be biased low and have been qualified "UL" on the DSF.

Blank Affected Analytes CCB lead (Pb), vanadium (V) PB cadmium (Cd)

Percent differences (%Ds) in the ICP serial dilution analysis were outside control limits (>10%) for aluminum (Al), magnesium (Mg) and zinc (Zn). Positive results for these analytes in affected samples are estimated due to possible matrix interferences and have been qualified "J" on the DSF.

NOTES

Reported results between MDLs and Contract Required Quantitation Limits (CRQLs) were qualified "J" on the DSF unless superseded by "B".

One (1) CRQL check standard recovery (CRI03) was extremely low (<50%) for Hg. The laboratory immediately reanalyzed this CRQL check standard as CRI04, which was inside the control limits. No data were qualified based on this finding.

Data for Case 36743, SDG MCT1H6, were reviewed in accordance with National Functional Guidelines for Evaluating Inorganic Analyses with Modification for use within Region HI.
