Statement of Work

Use existing autonomous controls of chargers

Implement optimized charge profiles Implement a GUI IAW previous profiles Charging technician to monitor, but not

expected to interfere with the charge

3

What We Have Learned

RS 232/485 Previous Attempts Board Operations / Capabilities SCPI (Standard Commands for Programmable

Instruments)

Serial Interface Card Layout

No GPIB Header PWR Supply

J4: RS- 232/485

Support

For GPIB

6

What We Have Accomplished

Purchased a serial communications board produced by MOXA

Determined the required connections to the charger’s interface card

Connected to an individual interface card that is used inside the chargers

Received a positive communications response

RS-485 =>

GND P5 to J4P7

Data- P4 to J4P5Data+ P3 to J4P4

7

Our Plan

Communicate with the chargers using the RS 485 or RS 232 ports on the ICS 4861 board currently installed within the chargers

Connect the ICS 4861 boards to the PC using a Moxa CP-118EL serial board

Create a simple GUI to convert the SCPI commands programmed into ICS 4861 board into an easily used touch screen program

8

Specifications

Able to control chargers from single work station

Control includes (for two chargers): Remote charger startup and shutdown Query and display:

output current/voltage Front panel indications

Ability to change output levels

Future Works (Spring 2010)

Code program with the ability to:1. Configure 4861 board with network

address. (Used for RS 485 multi-drop)2. Manually send SPCI commands3. Change voltage/voltage trigger4. Change current/current trigger5. Stop charger.6. Query voltage and current from charger.
