ldquoGovernment shutdownrdquo Whats the cost to the taxpayers
ldquoChapter shutdownrdquo Whatrsquos the cost to the membership According to various reports shutting down the government is costing the federal government well over
$2 billion dollars if it resembles the last shutdowns in 1995-1996 though the economy would be harmed
in additional ways that are nearly impossible to measure This process can also affect a chapter with an
outcome just as devastating You may ask what I am trying to say when I say chapter shutdown Like in
Washington DC we have elected officers and committee chairmen that the membership has entrusted
with great honor As leaders we are charged with knowing our documents amp procedures and abiding by
them In doing so our membership can feel empowered and trust we are moving in the right direction
Leaders of LTO and TPF are we leading by example While I canrsquot thank you enough or pay you a
salary for the countless hours you have dedicated to improving our organization I must ask have we
prepared our members to receive the torch December is right around the corner and the torch must be
passed Have we done our part to assist and prepare our future leaders If you are an officer or commit-
tee chairman ask yourself the following
Have I hosted two live meetings this year
Have I been inclusive in reaching out to all members to embrace them and their ideas to
support my committee
Have I thoroughly reviewed my written documents to ensure they are consistent with the
information on website relating to our practices
Do I come to meetings with a positive attitude ready and prepared to engage in productive
conversations
Do I submit five copies of my report at executive committee and 11 to the foundation board of
directors at meetings
Do I seek approval from BasileusPresident before confirming a meeting so that it is posted on
calendar and or distributed to membership
Do I seek approval from Board of Directors before making a purchase and want it noted as a
restricted donation
Do I review a potential grant before presenting to membership to ensure itrsquos in line with the
goals of our organization
Do I plan and host events or activities without seeking approval of BasileusPresident
Do I speak at meetings before I am recognized by presiding officer
Do I take time to inquire about a concern with a chairman or presiding officer before
involving a host of others
Listed above are a few examples of how a shutdown can occur and be felt across the chapter when lead-
ership is not adhering to our written procedures and protocol that is expected of the membership
Lambda Tau Omega Chapter and Twenty Pearls Foundation are great organizations with knowledgeable
and caring leaders and members We have two award winning organizations with evidence to support
that Ongoing education is a must if we want to continue to grow All members are encouraged to attend
the Twenty Pearls Foundation training scheduled for October 19 2013 at the Holiday Inn Matteson We
have secured two dynamic presenters Faye Terrell Perkins and Lorine Samuels We plan to focus on
team building topics and Foundation roles amp responsibilities Consistency and understanding of our
practices is needed but more importantly your presence is needed I want each of you to think of one
leader you would like to emulate and be prepared to step up to a leadership position The time is
now LTO amp TPF needs your skills knowledge fresh perspective and ldquocan do attituderdquo See you at the
training on Saturday October 19 2013

It is October again with all its beautiful colors and chilly nights for some this is their favorite time of the year In October we say
our goodbye to the dog days of summer and officially usher in the fall season I contemplated how the seasons came to get their
names and found out that this season was originally referred to as ldquoharvestrdquo It later came to be known as the ldquofall of the leafrdquo and
today this season is known asrdquo fallrdquo
In my research I realized that the word fall is defined as an act that haphazardly happens For this reason fall is often coupled with
words to show a downward movement as in ldquofall apartrdquo fall in fall down fall away and fall in love
Jennifer Lyle Moore Chaplain
This season because we know that we are living on purpose and with purpose letrsquos change this around and add order to the
haphazard falling around us Yes it is the fall of the year and because of this I am asking you to introduce a little order in this
season Let us walk in order stand in order speak in order see with orderly vision and live an ordered life
Order my steps in thy word and let not any iniquity have dominion over me Psalms 119133-134
