Help Wanted
Luke 10:1-2
Many of us can attest to the fact that
we have encountered window signs
that read either help wanted or now
hiring. You see companies are
searching for those who have a
desire to fill vacant positions. Most
employers want individuals who are
dedicated, committed, loyal and
dependable. They do not want those
who are going to hang out in the
breakroom near the water cooler and
coffee machine. They do not want
someone who is going to watch the
clock all day. No, they want someone
who has a mind to work. There is a
sign in the local church, as well as in
the Kingdom of God that reads
HELP WANTED. There are a number
of vacant positions that need to be
filled. The Lord is looking for
someone He can trust to get the job
done. God is looking for someone
dependable and loyal who is not in
it for self gain but for the glory of our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God is
not looking for those who are not
interested in hanging out in the
breakroom, because there is enough
of those already. They come to
church on break. They go home on
break. They go to work on break.
Fact of the matter, their life is just
one BIG BREAK and because of that
there is a HELP WANTED sign
posted!
35 Jesus went throughout all the
cities and villages, teaching in their
synagogues and proclaiming the
gospel of the kingdom and healing
every disease and every affliction. 36
When he saw the crowds, he had
compassion for them, because they
were harassed and helpless, like sheep
without a shepherd. 37 Then he said
to his disciples, “The harvest is
plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38
therefore pray earnestly to the Lord
of the harvest to send out laborers
into his harvest."
Matthew 9:35-38

The goal of the Christian life is to know Christ and to be like Him!
That’s it, isn’t it! Christianity is definitely not a religion of rules and
rituals that we must work at keeping in order to climb the ladder
to heaven. Rather, it is a personal, growing relationship with the
risen, living Lord Jesus Christ that results in our growing
conformity to Him. Our goal is to know Him and to become like
Him!

Everything seems to be measured by "the best".
What is the best car?
What is the best price?
Who is the best doctor?
Where is the best vacation spot?
What is the best choice? In our search for what we think is best, we forget about who really is the best. Jesus stands above the conditions of this life as someone who is greater than the best this world has to offer. He is greater than our best and our worst. As we move closer to Easter we are going to learn together how the life of Jesus is GREATER than the best and the worst of the world around us!

Have you noticed how things in life don’t always go as planned?
Circumstances pop up and throw us for a loop (if we let them). If you read the Bible, it is full of stories like this, and somehow they help us through the 'light and momentary afflictions' of life. I keep pondering Mary, the mother of Jesus; an angel appears and speaks, an unwanted teenage pregnancy, public ridicule, delivers her first born in a barn then watches as he is brutally murdered for crimes he never committed. It's fair to say that Mary's life was one of unexpected occurrences.
As I grow older what I am finding out is that the unexpected in life has purpose. And in Mary's case, great purpose. Imagine how your unexpected moments and even perceived inconveniences are purposed of God for His greater purpose. God's word has specific instructions for times of mess. Here are a few I often quote: Those whose minds are stayed on Thee, He will keep in perfect peace. (I bet Mary quoted that one a few times a day as a pregnant outcast). He will never leave me nor forsake me. He will work all things together for my good and His glory because He loves me and I love Him. His ways are perfect ways and they are not my ways. They are ways that I can fully trust and rely on. God has given us these truths that we might view the circumstances of life from His perspective. Our viewpoint too often is right out of our flesh and leads us to self pity and despair. God's perspective always leads us to our victory. It leads us to handle life with faith, trusting God no matter what the circumstance and finding our strength in Him. But we have got to know His word, His promises to us and then believe them and act upon them. Take His word as your prescription and hold on because just like Mary, the Mother of Christ God has great purpose in your life.
March is National Nutrition Month
(NNM), an annual nutrition education
campaign created by the Academy of
Nutrition and Dietetics (AND). This
year’s theme, Put Your Best Fork
Forward, reminds us that every bite
counts. At home, at work, or in a
restaurant, the choices you make to
influence your health one bite or one
forkful at a time. Small improvements
in food choices add up over time.
Progress, not perfection, is what
matters most. Parents are the most
important role models for their
children. Here are some tips from the
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Eat
meals together as a family, including
breakfast and dinner on school days. Fill
half your plate with vegetables and
fruit. Make at least half of your grain
choices whole grain Talk positively
about eating healthy food. Work with a
registered dietitian nutritionist that
works for you and your family.
Remember, healthy habits are caught,
not taught. Never underestimate the
power your habits make in your child's
life.

Spending time with the Lord Jesus each morning isn’t to fulfill some kind of religious duty or perform a ritual. If we just “clock in” and “clock out” without our heart being in it or our spirit engaged, we may develop a habit, but it won’t be an enjoyable one nor will it help us know the Lord more or grow in Him. Keeping a lifeless practice is pointless and fruitless.
Instead, we must approach our time in the morning as an
opportunity to be with the One we love and who loves us, our
dear Savior Christ. The Lord Jesus is a wonderful person
who lives in us. The goal of this time is to contact Him in our
spirit, be fed by Him in His Word, enjoy Him, receive His
speaking, and speak to Him.
