Munch Every Morn I know you already know you should eat breakfast. But if you’re too busy in the morning to prepare a meal or you’re not hungry first thing, that’s okay – sort of. You don’t have to eat “breakfast,” per se, just eat something that contains protein and fibre within two hours of waking up. Not all soy is created equal. Want proof? Just look at the facts:

Year: 1995Research: Meta-analysis of clinical trials shows a 12.5% reduction of LDL cholesterol with the daily consump-tion of 25 grams of soy protein.

Result: FDA approves health claim in 1999: 25 grams of soy protein a day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Year: 2006 Research: Meta-analysis of clinical trials conducted after the FDA approval shows that, on average, 50 grams soy protein per day reduces LDL cholesterol by just 3%.

Result: American Heart Association (AHA) petitions to repeal the 1999 FDA health claim on soy protein.

So what happened between 1995 and 2006 to soy pro-tein’s ability to lower cholesterol? The demand for soy products skyrocketed with the FDA health claim, and producers developed more efficient manufacturing processes to meet that demand. Unfortunately, many of these processes removed the component in soy protein responsible for lowering cholesterol in the first place: lunasin, a naturally occurring peptide.

In 1999, the FDA approved a health claim that “25 grams of soy protein per day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.” Research showed that soy-based diets reduced LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides while raising HDL (good) cholesterol. Scientists have since discov-ered that lunasin is the key to soy’s cho-lesterol-lowering properties.

Cholesterol comes from two sources: dietary intake and our body’s own pro-duction in the liver. Over 80% of choles-terol comes from the liver, so the most effective way to lower LDL (bad) cho-lesterol is to control the liver’s internal production. Lunasin works to lower cho-lesterol in two ways:

1. disrupts the production of cholesterol in the liver

2. improves the liver’s ability to clear ldl cholesterol from the bloodstream

A New Approach“Cholesterol management starts with proper diet and exercise,” Dr. Galvez says. “And lunasin offers an additional way to improve cholesterol, one that works at an early stage in the body’s internal choles-terol production process.”

Most cholesterol is produced in the liver by the HMG-CoA reductase gene. Simply blocking HMG-CoA can lead to health problems because your body needs a minimum level of cholesterol for proper cellular function. Record breaking: I’ve been running for over 40 years competing in distance, marathon and ultra-running. Hard work and determination has resulted in me breaking over 160 World Records in distance running for both road and track races, including course and age group records.

Exercise routine: Combining a heavy training pro-gramme and a job in my early career demanded a lot from me both physically and mentally. A few injuries forced me to take a break from running for a few years but I slowly got back into it. In 2012 I achieved 12 age group records and participated in the last two World 24hour Championships.

Winning My Way: I’ve been a Reliv Distributor for about ten months and from the beginning I understood the power of Reliv products because I did forty years of research and the people here in Whakatane using the products were always happy with their results. I joined the business as a Master Affiliate and it took me the first couple of months to get my head around everything; understanding how to share with people and signing them up. Then the Win Your Way to the International Confer-ence promotion came up and I thought that would be cool to win my way to America.

Actioning my Plan: The first thing I did to win was deciding that I wanted to go. The second thing I did was putting a plan in place to get there; what I needed to do and how I was going to do it. Then the most important thing I did was actually doing it. I sponsored something like 66 Distributors including 10 Fast Starts and 4 Master Affiliates. Even though I was still quite new, I just started talking to people and getting them on the product. As I started to understand the business more I realised the benefits of finding Master Affiliates and helping them spon-sor at least three Distributors each. It was hard going at times but because I was clearly focussed on my goal, I ended up winning my way!

Investing in Myself: I do a lot of reading and listening to audios on self development and one au-dio I listened to recently really hit home. The speak-er asked the thousand or so people at an event how many would be back next year. He told them that only half would be there next year, regardless of whether they thought they would be. The next event the same thing happened, there were more people because there were new people plus half the people from the previous event. Some eight events later the same speaker asked how many earn $1,000 per month and a lot of people put their hand up. He then asked how many of these people had been to all eight events. Some people raised their hands. Then he asked how many earn over $20,000 per month. When asked to raise their hands if they’d been to all eight events, every single person earning over $20,000 raised their hand.

Setting Goals: In terms of setting my goals for the future and for those in my team wanting to build a business – attending every Reliv event is a must. If you attend events it means you’re committed to your Reliv business, you want to be successful. It’s very exciting, heading to Orlando to attend the Interna-tional Conference, to meet my upline in person, to meet Bob and Sandy Montgomery and the whole Re-liv family. I’m very thankful to Reliv for giving me the opportunity and thankful because I’m living the life I want to live, helping people every day and achieving goals that never would have been in front of me in my day job. Opportunity Knocks: I responded to a business ad in the newspaper as I had been working at a chicken company for 15 years with not much to show for it. When I was presented with the Reliv business opportunity - being able to work from home and helping people with their health and fi-nances - I was excited. My husband Siaki and I have two young children aged six and three and I was looking for a business that would allow me to spend more time with my kids.

Duplicate Success: I joined Reliv in December 2012 and started sharing the Reliv opportunity and products with everyone I knew. My sponsor came with me on appointments and taught me the importance of the Reliv Success System, includ-ing two on one appointements and attending the weekly meetings and training. For the third straight year, donations to the Reliv Kalogris Foundation topped $1 million in 2012.

The RKF was named winner of the 2012 Communitas Award in the category “Making a Difference”, marking the second time we have won the award. With the completion of our Children’s home in Haiti, the judges found that the ‘Reliv Kalogris Foundation clearly exhib-ited the spirit of communitas, a Latin word that means people coming together for the good of a community.

Money raised from the 2012 Rally for the Mission pro-vided funds for our building project in Welfareville, a community in the Philippines made up of thousands of families who are unemployed or underemployed. In one small section, 160 Reliv Kids take part in our daily feeding program. The RFK Home provides a multi-purpose hall for the program, future daycare school, livelihood trainings and other meetings and events.

The Reliv Kalogris Foundation, created in 1995, has provided more than $34 million in free nutritional supplements to malnourished people since its found-ing. Today, it feeds more than 42,000 people, mostly children, daily through 270 feeding centres in nine countries.

2013 is on target for another million dollar s in dona-tions and the RFK is grateful for the generosity of our Distributors. In Australia and New Zealand, many Distributors donate their monthly AS50 to the Reliv Kalogris Foundation. Other Distributors have organised fundraisers such as New Zealand Distributor Jennifer DesMarais and Queensland Distributors Maureen and Gerard Vonder.

Reliv Australia New Zealand April saw the Ignition themed relaunch. The objective has been for Distributors to ignite their businesses by embrac-ing the enhancements implemented by Reliv, in consultation with the field leaders.

The Ignition strategy has been a huge success to date even in the short period since the launch. Distributors have embraced the two most significant changes of how they do business and how the com-pany communicates to both the field and consumers. These are the social media and auto-ship strategies.

The AS50 auto-ship program has been a huge success to those Distributors who have actively engaged in spon-soring both Preferred Customers and Distributors while understanding the benefits of enroling them in AS50 as they sign up. When this is duplicated through their group, they are seeing not only increased group volume, but increased commissions as well.

Social media has also provided a whole new medium for Reliv as a company to get its message across. Distributors who have accepted this strategy and currently have Facebook accounts are getting information, both fun and business critical.

Recognition has been more easily available to all Distributors and the “push” format of Facebook ensures that all active Distributors are see-ing this information. In July, Reliv launched its first Facebook-only pro-motion. The winners were paid their bonuses the following week which created a lot more activity and ener-gy in the field.

The enhancements to the compen-sation plan have proven to be win-ners for all parties and we are seeing an influx of brand new people into the business. Preferred Customers are signing up on AS50 and Distributors

are gaining the benefit of sponsoring new people additionally as consum-ers as well as those interested in building a business.

I’m as excited today about the Reliv opportunity as I was 18 years ago when Betty and I decided to build a Reliv business for our family. We needed to replace the income I had lost. By going to work with our upline and friends, we reached Presidential Director in 15 months.
