Item1: Accessible Information Standard Review – Have Your Say

The Accessible Information Standard <https://www.england.nhs.uk/our-work/accessibleinfo/>  (SCCI1605 Accessible Information) sets out requirements for organisations to identify, record, flag, share and meet the information and communication needs of people with a disability, impairment or sensory loss.

All organisations that provide NHS care and / or publicly-funded adult social care must follow the Standard in full from 1st August 2016 onwards.

In early 2017, NHS England is reviewing the Standard to assess the impact and to ensure that it is ‘fit for purpose’.

As part of the review we are inviting views via three surveys aimed at differ-ent groups:

1. Online survey for health and care professionals and organisations <https://www.engage.england.nhs.uk/survey/health-social-care-pro-fessionals/> (also available as a Word document) <https://www.eng-land.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/ais-review-survey-hlth-care-prof-org-app-frm.docx>

2. Online survey for patients, service users, carers and parents <https://www.engage.england.nhs.uk/survey/patients-service-users-carers-parents/> (also available as a Word document, <https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/ais-survey-pat-serv-user-app-frm.docx>  and in alternative formats including audio, <https://soundcloud.com/nhs-england-823010086/accessible-info-std-review-survey-podcast> braille, British Sign Language video, <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qirjp3I_zQ>

and easy read) <https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/up-loads/2017/01/ais-survey-pat-serv-user-esy-rd.pdf>

3. Online survey for support, supplier and representative organisations <https://www.engage.england.nhs.uk/survey/support-supplier-repre-sentatives/>  (also available as a Word document).  <https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/ais-review-survey-supprt-rep-supplier-org-app-frm.docx>

All of the surveys are available from our website  <https://www.eng-land.nhs.uk/ourwork/accessibleinfo/> - http://www.england.nhs.uk/accessi-bleinfo

Please take the time to have your say before the deadline of 10th March 2017.

If you have any queries please contact [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> . Patients, service users, carers and members of the public can also call 0300 311 22 33.

Item4: Guide Dogs: Access All Areas - new petition launch

We’re starting with a new Access All Areas petition for you to sign.

Sadly, 42% of guide dog owners surveyed told us that they had been turned away from a taxi or minicab in the last year because of their dog.

The new petition aims to tackle this by calling on the Government to make disability equality training a requirement for all taxi and minicab drivers. The training will help drivers to understand the rights and needs of disabled people.

With your help we can achieve great results, so please sign the petition and help make travel easier for guide dog owners

Item9: TPT Response to London Assembly Health Committee investigation into Mental Health & Sight Loss - call for participants

The London Assembly Health Committee are conducting an investigation into the mental health needs of deaf and disabled people, as part of a wider investigation examining what the Mayor can do to support better mental health for all Londoners.

The Engagement and Advocacy team are currently working on a response to the London assembly committee review, looking into the links between sight loss and mental health. As people with sight loss are more likely to experience feelings such as depression, we are keen to explore what mental health services and support organisations may be doing to promote better mental health for disabled people, what good practice there is along with what can be done to support better mental health for disabled people. Additionally we are looking into barriers for disabled people trying to access mental health services and how services can be more accessible.

If you are interested in sharing your thoughts and/or experiences relating to mental health support. It would be greatly appreciated and will support our response to help change policy in this field.

We need all responses by Friday 27th January 2017 in the form of a short questionnaire
