MINJERRIBAC U LT U R A L C E N T R ENORTH STRADBROKE IS.

DWELLING AND DENSITY

This project was broken into two key elements, development of a master-plan for Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island and the design of a cultural and community centre which lends itself to the community.

The centre provides a cultural heritage museum and exhibition space, a variety of meeting rooms, community spaces, visitors centre as well as a restaurant and cafe. The building responds to the immediate context of the site littered with large Moreton Bay Figs and on a broader scale, the building encapsulates the idea of movement and explores it on a variety of levels.

DESTINATIONB R I S B A N E

CASINO DEVELOPMENT

ARCHITECTURE AND COMMERCE

The Destination Brisbane project took on the Queen’s Wharf Casino development in Brisbane’s CBD, as an opportunity to take on the complex dilemmas in imagining alternative configurations.

The project aimed to develop a landscape within the city that was easily accessible and acted as the podium for 2 residential towers and a hotel. The green roof consisted of a variety of sloped terraces perforated with atriums that connected major program elements. This included the casino floor as well as lyric theatre as well as numerous levels of retail and hospitality.

CABIN FEVERU Q R E S E A R C H

BUILD STUDIO

ECO CABIN

The Eco Cabin project investigated how various research methods and non-conventional approaches to testing and prototyping can start to inform the design and construction of a primary structural system in the form of a self-contained cabin. The task involved a concept design and competition submission for the cabin (as pictured), as well as prototyping and construction, which took place at a three-day construction workshop.

This project lead the research team down the path of non-conventional architectural construction techniques as we explored ways of prototyping and development outside the typical 3D modelling environment.

INSTITUTIONS AND IDEOLOGIES

The Artworx Creative Arts Campus, Maryborough, investigated the intricacies of designing and thinking about an institution where a community’s cultural and material values are given physical expression. This project brief includes a black box theatre and variety of teaching, learning and administrative spaces.

The task was to develop key design manifestos, which responded to the context of Maryborough as a rural township and recognise the potential of an institution and its community for a transactional relationship.

DESIGN COMPETITION

Entry Axonometric

The Guggenheim Helsinki Design Competition was used as a basis for this project and provided the opportunity to develop individual designs that ran in tandem with the competition. This project employed the same brief, design constraints and submission requirements.

The design focused on the idea of organised pavilions, both open and closed, to encourage movement towards the waters edge and throughout the exhibition spaces.
