All the boys and girls benefit from these wonderful sources of shade and greenery. "What does the fox say"? All classrooms are referred to as a Canadian animal to avoid stigmatism. Originally built in 1960, Lynngate Junior Public School is situated in Agincourt. Lynngate became a junior school in 1969 with the opening of John Buchan Sr PS. We have 175 students from around the world, particularly China and Sri Lanka. Many students are English Language Learners. Lynngate shares its facility with the YMCA Daycare. We also receive some students from the Good Sheppard Daycare, on Birchmount Avenue. Our Mission Statement: Each member of the Lynngate family - community, home, and school - is committed to educate every child in its care by providing the skills, knowledge, and values necessary for individuals to be capable, healthy and responsible participants in Canadian society. Superbrain Yoga Lynngate is the first TDSB school to engage in Superbrain Yoga. SBY is combined with the basic understanding of how the body’s energy works, how the brain functions, and how the body utilizes its fuel. SBY is an effective technique designed to specifically optimize brain wellness to improve mental performance and regulate emotions by energizing the brain to stimulate the production of Alpha Brain Waves which produce a synchronization of the right and left hemispheres of the brain, creating the brain’s most optimal state for healthy, conscious learning. Lynngators do SBY, Mindful Curriculum or some form of mindful activity once a day.

Regular Instructional ProgramsAll instructional programs are based on the Ontario Curriculum andinclude: English, English as a Second Language, Core French,Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Studies, Health andPhysical Education, Music, Visual Arts, Drama, Dance and MediaLiteracy.

Special Education ProgramsWe offer a variety of special education programs and services tomeet the needs of all students with learning exceptionalitiesincluding communication, intellectual and multiple learningdisabilities. Lynngate is in its eigth year with Intensive SupportPrograms: Primary and Junior Autism Classes. We welcomediversity in our learning community and we learn from each other!

The ArtsAt Lynngate we believe that "the Arts make you smart."  Students ingrades 5 and 6  receive band instruction from an itinerant musicteacher.  Teachers seek opportunities to integrate visual arts, danceand drama into the curriculum.

Eco SchoolsLynngate is proud to have achieved Eco Schools Silver status.  Weare currently working towards Gold status. Students meet in theirEco-club monthly to work on educational issues related to theenvironment and our school; in particular, recycling.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Arts Programs music, visual arts, dance and drama arecomplemented by  in-school performances by visitingprofessional artists. Junior students also attend the TorontoSymphony Orchestra's Student Performances and/orTafelmusik performances.  Athletic Teams includeCross-Country, Intramural Sports in Soccer, Basketball andVolleyball, Progressive Tennis, Track and Field, IndoorRowing and Table Tennis.Clubs include Board Games, Boys' Reading, Boys2Men ,Lasses2Ladies, Dance, Eco Schools, Girls'Reading, Kennedy House Homework, Recycling, Knit aSquare.Competitions include Concours D'Art Oratoire and SpellingBee.Leadership Opportunities include Door Monitors, EcoSchools, Library Helpers, Morning Announcements, OfficeHelpers, Peer Helpers and Student Ambassadors.Pathways and Transitions are supported through ParentInformation Nights with foci on EQAO, Lynngate ParentsMeet Toronto's Treasures, Family Math, and Welcome toKindergarten. What Sets Us Apart

At Lynngate we believe that increased physical fitnessmakes for successful learners. Besides increasing physicalactivity through intramural sports and physical activities atlunch and before/after school, we also provide students theopportunity to expend energy during the school day by using"deskcycles" and stand-up desks. To complement our fitnessinitiatives we also offer a Nutritional Snack Program togrades 1 to 6 every morning. This program is supported bythe Toronto Foundation for Student Success andimplemented by parent/student volunteers.Lynngate is also one of the schools identified by the OntarioTennis Association to receive complimentary ProgressiveTennis Lessons as part of our Physical Education Program.Students are encouraged to join a community tennis clubsuch as Stephen Leacock so that tennis fitness can becomea leisure skill for life.

Parent and Community Engagement

We have a good relationship with the YMCA Daycare throughsupport of programs and supervision of children. We participateannually in the Terry Fox Run and the Christmas Food Drive forAgincourt Community Services. We host student teachers and ECEstudents from Tyndale University, the Zurich University of TeacherEducation, Centennial and Seneca College. We have anactive School Advisory Council with parents who work as partners ineducation by assisting with classroom activities, excursions, sportcompetitions, our music program, Nutritional Snack Program andspecial events. Each year we plan and invite our parents andstudents to a special Family Night in either Literacy, Math, STEAM, Fitness or Mental Wellness. Lynngate has been a hostschool to visiting International Principals from Australia, Italy Norwayand New Zealand as we extend our learning to the larger borders ofthe Globe.

Imagine a TDSB where all schools share a common core set of characteristics. They arecommunity-driven and focused on teaching and learning.
