1. Fastening shall comply with Sections 12 & 13 of this Manual.2. Fixing to steel supports with thickness between 0.75 and 1.5mm may also result in reduced maximum spans due to reduced screw pull-out capacity.
3. The spans supplied are applicable when the cladding is fixed to a minimum of 1.5mm G450 steel.4. Design Criteria :The following criteria from AS/NZS 1170.2:2002 have been used to generate
the tables:
a) Importance Level 2 with return period of 500 yearsb) VR = 66 m/sec., Fc = 1.05
c) Ms = Md = 1.0d) Mt = 1.0 & 1.3 5.e) Cpe = -0.9; Cpi = +0.7

Tropical cyclons ar warm cord wind systms whichaffct th coastal rgions of Northrn Australia. Thy ar
formd ovr warm tropical watrs, whr th tmpratur
must b >27C whn svr baromtric dprssions occur.
High spd winds blow spirally inward from all sids to form
a roughly circular cor or y which can rang in siz up to
about 50km in diamtr. Ovrall, a cyclonic wind systm can
hav a diamtr as larg as 650km.
Th spiralling action is causd by th arths rotation and is
clockwis in th southrn hmisphr, anti-clockwis in th
northrn hmishpr.
Air drawn into th y of a cyclon is carrid vrtically by
convction and a pumping action gnratd by high altitudwinds. This cor activity xtnds up to 12km abov th
sa. Th air rising in th cor of th cyclon carris with
it substantial amounts of watr vapour which condnss
to form havy cloud and rain in th ara of maximum wind
forc around th cor.
Th condnsing watr vapour rlass vast amounts of
hat nrgy which is xpndd nlarging th systm. As
cyclons xtract thir nrgy from th warm watr, thy
dissipat fairly quickly on raching land, but oftn not
bfor doing trmndous damag.
Cyclons usually mov at spds of btwn 2 and 15
m/sc and bcaus of thir siz, high wind spds can lastfor many hours. Ths winds ar of a cyclic natur, causing
signicant dynamic forcs on building componnts.
Ths cyclic forcs can induc fatigu in roong matrials,
thir supports and xings; fatigu which oftn limits th
prformanc of a componnt or systm. In addition,
bcaus of th rotation of th wind systm, th wind
dirction at a particular point can chang 180 as th
cyclon passs. Ths qus that buld dss shuldt ta shld t accut ulss t s uhly qual all sds.

Wind crats a numbr of forcs on both intrnal andxtrnal surfacs of a building; forcs which must b
considrd whn dsigning or slcting cladding matrials,
thir fastnrs and supports. Ths forcs produc both
positiv prssur and ngativ prssur (suction) and
thir magnitud is affctd by th vlocity of th wind and
th buildings dgr of xposur and conguration. Th
rsultant prssurs ar calculatd using AS/NZS 1170.2:
2002 Structural Dsign Actions Part 2: Wind Actions.
In cyclonic aras, particular not should b takn of th
ffcts of intrnal prssurs on roof and wall cladding and
th importanc of local prssur aras.
Flying dbris is a signicant problm in tropical cyclonsand thr ar numrous instancs of buildings apparing to
stand up to th wind forcs until dbris brok windows or
pntratd wall cladding, thus allowing prssur from th
wind to build up insid. Th intrnal prssur, acting with
suction on th outsid of th roof, was thn sufcint to
caus failur of th roof systm - a sort of xplosion.
Failur of th roong can b du to inadquat fastning
of roof shting, in which cas th xings pull out or th
shting cracks around th fastnrs. It can b qually
du to inadquat xing of th roof framing, ithr th
connction btwn th battns and raftrs or th
connction of th raftrs to th building fram.Irrspctiv of th rason for th loss of roof, th rsult
is usually catastrophic. Watr damag commonly rsults
in th dstruction of furnitur and furnishings. In addition,
framd buildings los th bracing ffct caus by th roof
mmbran, rsulting in th collaps of som xtrnal walls.
wd Fcs As
Th Wind Classication for awnings and carports can b
takn from AS4055 Wind Loads on housing.
Th wind prssur multiplirs to apply to th basic wind
prssur should com from th cofcints in ASNZS
1170:2002 for frstanding and attachd awnings.
Ds wd Spds
Th various conditions which affct th dsign wind
spds, such as gographic location, trrain catgory, tc.,
ar to b takn from th ASNZS 1170.2:2002.
