LETTERS TO THE EDITORResidents need to be proactive to solve civic problems

Sir, At the T. Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association’s meet-ing held on Nov. 10, a resident from Rameswaram Road, cameup with a host of civic issues plaguing residents on his street.

While he was assured of help and assistance, the residentwas asked to mobilize the residents of Rameswaram Road andpresent to the Association a detailed plan of action. Even afterthe passage of two weeks, nothing has been heard from theresident.

An association is formed by a group of residents working fortheir welfare. It can function beneficially only if there is activeparticipation by its residents. It is all the more so for thoseAssociations whose residents encounter problems. It is defi-nitely a Herculean task to bring in residents to a commonplatform and make them understand the advantages accruingto them by such a venture, but the effects of such tenuousefforts will be equally rewarding in the long run. Only teamefforts will bear fruit. – V.S. Jayaraman, 31 Motilal Street,T. Nagar.

Newly paved road damaged due to lack of barricadingSir, Raman Street (New Ward 136), T. Nagar, which con-

The workers started with one half of the road, but no barri-cades were placed to warn the motorists who drove over it evenbefore the surface had dried.

As a consequence, the surface is uneven and damaged witha number of cracks, potholes and tyre marks.

Members of our Association met Rajendran, (AssistantCommissioner, Zone 10) and also spoke to the local MLA whohas assured us that the defects will be mended and due caretaken during the concreting of Madley Road and AnandanStreet, which are in the pipeline. – Jayaraman, 50, RamanStreet, T.
