hearts of everyone and the unity of the Blacks and theWhites after the unification-war in America, I would ven-ture, if I had the talent of that great President or his vision,to thank my good father (who art in heaven now) for havinglaunched my journey on earth in cool Nairobi, the capitalof Kenya, (then under the British rule) on June 23, 1933when he was working for the Post Master General of thethree East African colonies of the British government.

This nondescript 80 did not ring bells, for the joint authorshad made their fiery journeys unnoticed by any excepttheir nearest and dearest.

I can claim to be an icon since my good friend BarackObama’s father is a Kenyan and that Hussain Obama andI must have seen the Thikka Falls, a splendid cascade thathad thrilled me, a youngster of around 4 years, on an outingwith my family on a weekend .

The next time I heard of Barack was when he wascrowned President of the mighty USA. Since he has notheard of me either, it was a draw, but I wanted him to winsince I had entered this beautiful world through Nairobi,the cool capital of Kenya, thousands of miles from ourfamily’s Indian home in Kannur in Kerala.

Mother has related to us the traumatic dawn of the dateof my birth when she had a dream in which the great seerShankarachariar told her that her third baby would be aboy and that he should be named after his lieutenantSadanand. The vision vanished and within minutes, thedelivery order had to be complied with. Mother cried throughhappiness when she saw me and promptly named meSadanand.

This 80-year old story never failed to thrill her as it wasa true happening and the saint patron had even named me.

Sir, I am a resident of Venkatachalam Street (WestMambalam). For the last couple of weeks, there is a foul smellin the water supplied to our residents through the Metrowaterpipeline. Many a time, the water is also murky. It is unfit forconsumption in any form, be it drinking, cooking or for any otherhousehold activity. It poses a serious health hazard to ourresidents.

Our Association has appealed to Metrowater officials to lookinto the problem, but no action has been taken so far. Many ofthe residents have closed the valve in their Metrowater line andare instead filling the sump by buying water in tanker lorriesat a high cost. We request urgent action in the matter. The shoddy way in whichstorm water drains are beingconstructed in several streetsin this neighbourhood is caus-ing a lot of hardship to roadusers and residents.

while digging a trench alongChakrapani Street Extension(West Mambalam) damagedthe underground Metrowaterpipes and EB and telephonecables.

A nearby resident told

Mambalam Times that asusual there was no notificationor coordination between thevarious civic authorities be-fore starting such a criticalwork. Once the damage wasdone, the blame game beganand it took a lot of effort on theresident’s part to get the repa-irs done by the respective de-partments and we were forcedto suffer till then, he said.

Similarly, residents of HindiPrachar Sabha Street (T.Nagar) had to suffer for a long

time when the sewage waterleaked into the Metrowater lineas both got damaged duringdigging.

It took more than a monthfor the Metrowater workers toidentify the leaks and plugthem.
