Snake Park to conduct 5-day campBy Our Staff Reporter

Chennai Snake Park will conduct a 5-day summer camp for studentswho have completed Class 10 from April 16. Each batch will have 20students. Individuals who are interested can also participate, accord-ing to Park Director Rajarathinam.

Natural history of reptiles and interactive sessions, wildlife healthmonitoring in the snake park, snakebite management, film screening,visit to Guindy National Park and a quiz program will form part of thecourse.

Experts in the field of herpetology will interact with the participantsand answer their questions, Rajarathinam said.

Participants have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 500. The courseduration will be three hours a day. The park will provide course kit andrefreshments. Transport will have to be arranged by participantsthemselves.

After the camp, the participants will become ‘zoo educators’ for thesnake park and can visit the park free of fee 50 times a year. They willalso be allowed to educate visiting children about the park and thereptiles housed there. They will also get a certificate.

2 chain snatchers held with helpof CCTV footage

Two chain snatchers, one ofwhom followed a woman anddragged her for a distancebefore escaping with a part ofher 2-sovereign chain in T.Nagar, were arrested with thehelp of CCTV camera footage.

The two were identified asDinesh (21) and Kumar (20) ofNungambakkam, owner of thevehicle used in the crime. Policeare on the lookout for the rider,Madan. Police said Dinesh andMadan were habitual offendersinvolved in chain-snatchingincidents in Chetpet, Egmoreand Kilpauk.

Their latest victim was Devi(42), a sanitary worker in aprivate company who was onher way to work at 6.30 a.m onApril 5. Police said that onThirumalai Pillai Road a manriding pillion on a scooter gotdown and followed the woman.The sequence, caught oncamera, showed Dinesh,wearing a blue shirt, followingDevi with Madan waiting at adistance.

Police said Dinesh grabbedher chain and ran towards thescooter, but Devi held on to itand ran along with him. AfterDinesh mounted the scooter,Devi was dragged along the roadfor a few seconds. The two spedaway after the chain broke.Devi, who got no help as thestretch was deserted, sus-tained injuries in her neck andwas admitted to a privatehospital. With the help offootage from another CCTVcamera, police traced thevehicle. They nabbed Dineshand Kumar and are looking forMadan.
