M16A2 SERVICE RIFLE

Lesson Purpose

• The purpose of this period of instruction is to introduce you to the M19A2 Rifle and the care and cleaning of this service rifle.

M16A2 Service Rifle

• A 5.56 mm, magazine fed, gas operated, air cooled, shoulder-fired weapon that can be fired either in automatic three-round bursts or semi-automatic single shots as determined by the position of the selector lever.

Safety Features

• Before you can disassemble the rifle, you must ensure that the weapon is on safe.

– Place selector lever to safe.

– Remove Magazine

ONLY when:• THERE IS NO ROUND IN THE CHAMBER.• THE MAGAZINE IS OUT.• THE BOLD CARRIER IS LOCKED TO THE

• Never move the brush back and forth inside the bore.

• Do not attempt to remove and discoloration caused by heat.

• Cleaning Lubricant Protectant (CLP) is the only lubricant authorized to be used on the M16A2.

FIRE ARMS SAFETY RULES

• Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.

• Never point a weapon at anything you do not intend to shoot.

• Keep a straight finger, off the trigger, until you are ready to fire.

• Keep weapon on safe until you are ready to fire.
