Since 1965, Roverplastik...

Roverplastik was founded in 1965 by today’s President, Renato Festi, as an one man business. He started production of PVC roller shutters, with no other personnel, in a rented area in Rovereto.

Over the years Roverplastik has widened the product range: with 40 years of experience, Roverplastik Spa is now a leader company, for creativity and technological innovation, in the fi eld of products conceived for a comfortable home.

Today Roverplastik is recognized as manufacturer of a wide range of products like motorized roller shutters, roller shutter boxes, motors for swing shutters, weatherstrips for wooden door and window frames, aluminium sections for waterdrip, PVC folding doors and RoverBlok, a special prefabricated counter-frame system for doors and windows.

The care that Roverplastik takes in developing this range ensures products that are solid and burglar-proof. Top-quality materials and modern technologies allow excellent characteristics as to security for the end-users (steel roller shutters with polyurethane insulation are an excellent burglar-proof barrier) and as to insulation, both thermal and acoustic. Motorization is another strong point: the rapid development of domestic automation today allows us to control and operate all the home systems just by sending a simple text with a mobile phone.

In 1997 Roverplastik obtains Quality System Management certifi cation by Det Norske Veritas, according to the international standard ISO 9002:1994, later updated to the standard ISO 9001:2008 in 2010. An important stage in company development is represented by the enlargement of the production area in Volano. Moreover in 2008 Roverplastik becomes “CasaClima partner”. To better answer the growing demand from a market wanting innovative and customized products, Roverplastik created in 2001 a specialized workshop to build extrusion dies for plastics. Roverplastik has set up an in-house Research and Development department, where specifi cally trained personnel dedicate their eff orts to continuous improvement in terms of both materials and technologies in use.

As a result of this measure, in 2011 was presented RoverBlok Energy, the constructive solution for the window opening able to guarantee the highest thermal and acoustic performances, in accordance with the LEED® certifi cation requirements.

The company commitment will continue, and will keep faith with the original Roverplastik objective: constant growth linked to wider development.

4 Weatherstrips for wooden frames

In 2011, Roverplastik performed the LEED® product mapping of the thermoacoustic block RoverBlok Energy, verifying the positioning of this product according to LEED® certifi cation standard, which requires specifi c performance and characteristics of quality of construction products. The company received the so-called “Product Booklet”, created by Habitec in cooperation with the TÜV Italy as external validator, proving the conformity of RoverBlok Energy to the standard.

Also in 2011 Roverplastik widened its line of expanded weatherstrips, developing the new STP10 (Shock Thermic Protection) ones. These weatherstrips, the fi rst on the market, have an exclusive 10-year warranty on their characteristics, besides better performances than competing products, an exceptionally complete range and the maximum variety of available colors.

Since 2011 Roverplastik is part of the PosaClima group, consortium of companies that manufacture products for the window opening, sharing its philosophy of off ering to the clients an installation system complete at all its stages.

The material of the weatherstrip is very important for the maintenance of its performances over time: with the same shape and dimensions, the better is the recovery of the material, the longer-lasting are the performances of the weatherstrip. This evaluation is performed according to the environmental conditions in which the weatherstrip works: depending on whether it is an internal door or an external window, the requisites of the materials to employ change.Choosing the material, you need to consider also the compatibility with the future applications of products and the future processings in which the window/door will be involved: first of all, the choose depends on the solvents of the coatings. The absolutely right weatherstrip doesn't exist, but knowing all the main characteristics above it’s possible to choose the right one case by case.

Descriptions

K Plasticized PVC based compound, it is the first material used for the production of weatherstrips for wooden windows/doors; it is an extremely versatile material, regarding colours and hardnesses, and allows the making of coextruded products. This material, despite of its excellent UV and ozone stability, due to its characteristics needs low operating temperatures, so it is more suitable for internal applications.The easyness of processing typical of thermoplastic materials allows to work with squeezable distances up to 3 mm and with tolerances on rated dimensions of ± 0,3 mm. Due to the fact that these compounds are not cured, they can be recycled to reduce the environmental impact.

TPE foam based thermoplastic compound, in addition to the characteristics of the AC series, thanks to the micro bubbles of air it is also possible to shape rounded outlines increasing the contact surface and the squeezable distance of the weatherstrip, keeping the softness in the closing joint. The closed porosity prevents the moisture absorption and, with a padding effect, makes the external surface of the weatherstrip adhere to the wooden frame, maximising the tightness.The easyness of processing typical of thermoplastic materials allows to work with squeezable distances up to 3,5 mm and with tolerances on rated dimensions of ± 0,3 mm. Due to the fact that these compounds are not cured, they can be recycled to reduce the environmental impact.

Vulcanized EPDM based compound derived from the automotive industry, where operating temperatures and environmental conditions are critical. The cure makes these materials extremely stable, compatible with all types of paints, with an excellent UV and ozone stability and high operating temperatures.This series of weatherstrips is also suitable for external applications.The combination of foam and compact parts allows to shape rounded outlines. The easyness of processing these vulcanised materials allows to work with squeezable distances under 3 mm, and the tolerance on rated dimensions, up to ± 0,6 mm, complies with the ISO 3302-1 standard.

Vulcanized silicone based compound, extremely versatile regarding colours, like all others cured materials is extremely stable in every environmental condition and resistant to all agents, included every type of solvents. The softness and elasticity at every temperature make it suitable for all applications.The easyness of processing these vulcanised materials allows to work with squeezable distances under 3 mm, and the tolerance on rated dimensions complies with the ISO 3302-1 standard.

Shock Thermic Protection is the acronym that summarize the unique characteristics of this TPE foam based compound, modified to obtain an elastic response over time near to the one of the vulcanised materials, but keeping the easyness of processing typical of thermoplastic materials. These characteristics combine the points of strenght of foam materials such as ESP, with the wrap-around outlines, the big squeezable distance and the softness of EPDM series.The easyness of processing typical of thermoplastic materials allows to work with squeezable distances up to 3,5 mm and with tolerances on rated dimensions of ± 0,3 mm. Coextruded weatherstrips with rigid back for an easier insertion and an excellent grip in the groove. The rigid part can be recognized from the lighter colour in profile’s drawing. In fact, we use only only rigid cardboard packagings for a complete protection of the product.The dimensions are designed to be easy to handle, easy to store and stable.

The glass windows are processed for low-emissivity and con-tain insulating gas in order to guarantee high energy savings; so they don’t dissipate the inner heat during winter nor the cool during summer. With a 68 mm thick window frame, the values are even better than the minimum italian standards for the colder national climate zone (F).

Air permeability: class 4 (maximum achievable)WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE CLIENT? With a wind speed of 115 Km/h, draughtproofi ng, less dust on sills and in rooms, longer-lasting cleaness of curtains, smells, particles and pollution out of the house, more confort inside, high energy saving and better acoustic insulation.

The CE mark label is not only an obligation, fi rst of all it’s the business card of the manifacturer: in fact, it reports the main characteristics of the window/door frame summarized in the performance classes, namely watertightness, air permeability, wind resistance, thermal and acoustic performances, non-toxicity.According to these values, the technician designs the living comfort choosing the performances of the frame that better suit the use and the environment of the building.

Performances of Roverplastik’s weatherstrips

The undeformed dimensions of the weatherstrip have to be compared with the width of the joint to be sealed. It’s easy to understand the fact that the bigger the undeformed dimension of the weatherstrip, with the same joint size, the greater the efficiency of the sealing will be: referring to a 4 mm gap between leaf and frame, a weatherstrip with an undeformed dimen-sion of 7,5 mm has a squeezable distance comparable with the width of the joint to be sealed. This way, the weatherstrip is able to compensate the production tolerances, the setting during installation and the adjustment of the leaf over time. In this regard, the drawing of the weatherstrip for the manifacturers of the windows/doors must absolutely comprehend the rated dimensions of the weatherstrip and the production tolerances, to make it possible to compare them with the dimensions of their products.

The weatherstrip is an elastic element that tightly couples the fixed and moving parts of the window/door frame, filling the gap between the leaf and the frame, and between the frame and the glazing. Their efficiency depends on their shape, their dimensions undeformed and on their materials.The functional dimensions of the frame are:

Depth and width of the groove (C, D) are dimensions to consider when you put the weatherstrip in place: the dimensions of the interlocking flap are sized to be easily inserted and to guarantee a perfect tightness..Gap and rebate (A, B) are dimensions that determine the overlapping of the leaf and the frame and their spacing; they depend on the type of the hardware and the design of the window/door frame.

On the shape of the weatherstrip depends the contact surface, the bigger the contact surface the greater the tightness is: in analogy, the larger the bead of silicone, with the same joint size, the greater the tightness is . A rounded enveloping outline guarantees a large tightness bead.

Technical specifications of weatherstrips for external window/door frames

Thermoplastic foam with closed cells: high-performance profiles, thanks to the bigger contact surface timber/weatherstrip and to the bigger squeezable distance of the weatherstrip itself; foam materials make it possible to design rounded outlines, increasing the contact surface and the squeezable distance while maintaining the softness in the closing joint.

Protective coating: provides the abrasion resistance and keeps the “velvety” look with an enveloping effect.

Soft central flap: it fits every outline, covering any imperfections in the finishing of the edge

Semi-rigid back: facilitates the insert of the weatherstrip in the groove and makes it possible an angle-shaped cut, eliminates the shrinkage of the weatherstrip due to the stretching during the installation. It is an important element for the automatic installation of the weatherstrip.

Chamber for terminal caps:it is possible to insert the terminal caps for the central leaf, indispensable for watertightness of the central joint of the window/door frame.

La qualità di un serramento è data dalle sue presta-zioni e dall’estetica, ovvero dal grado di cura delle finitu-re. E’ con questa consapevolezza che Roverplastik ha svilup-pato il nuovo kit fermavetro. L’utilizzo di una guarnizione nella sigillatura dei vetri permette di eliminare le tipiche sbavature dovute all’utilizzo del silicone, operazione delicata che richiede grande manualità, garantendo sempre il massi-mo delle prestazioni. L’applicazione del listello fermavetro tramite clips avvitate al serramento assicura un solido fissaggio meccanico eliminando, allo stesso tempo, l’antiesteticità della vista delle viti che, col kit fermavetro Roverplastik, sono completamente a scomparsa. Le elevate prestazioni raggiunte nelle prove ambientali e le prove di invecchiamento a confronto con il silicone hanno dimostrato come l’utilizzo del kit fermavetro sia garanzia di un migliora-mento sia nelle prestazioni che nell’estetica del serramento.

La guarnizione fermavetro Roverplastik viene offerta in 5 varianti di colore: marrone, bianco, beige, nero e trasparente. Quest’ultima referenza è quella più interessan-te perché imita l’effetto estetico del silicone senza lasciare tracce o sbavature di alcun tipo. Il risultato a vista è molto piacevole, pulito, con un serramento bello da vedere.

ROVERPLASTIK’S GLAZING GASKETThe quality of a door or a window is determined by its performances and by its aesthetics; the latter essentially depends on the the quality level of the fi nishes.With this awareness, Roverplastik has developed a new glazing gasket, in which the use of a weatherstrip for sealing the glass always guarantees the best performances and allows to eliminate the typical smudging caused by the use of silicone, a delicate operation requiring great dexterity.The application of the glazing gasket through bolted clips to the door or windows, ensures a solid mechanical fi xing, eliminating at the same time the unsightliness of the visible screws, that result completely hidden with the Roverplastik’s glazing gasket kit.The high performance reached in the environmental and aging test, in comparison with the silicone, have shown that the use of the glazing kit improves the performance and the aesthetics of the window.The Roverplastik’s glazing gasket is available in fi ve different colours: brown, beige, white, black and transparent. The last one is the most interesting because it imitates the aesthetic effect of the silicone without leaving smearings or material tracks of any type.The fi nal result is very pleasant, clean, with a door or a window beautiful to see.

MOUNTING INSTRUCTION (Fig. 2)1. Use a screwdriver with an insert at least 60 mm long.2. During the installation:- apply a structural sealing bead along the support perimeter of the glazing;- press the clip against the surface of the glass for the entire duration of the operation;- keep the screwdriver inclined with respect to the glass surface;- be careful not to hit the glass with the spindle of the tool.

FIXING INSTRUCTION OF CLIPS (Fig. 3)1. Place the clip as shown in the diagram below:- at a distance of about 100 mm from the corners;- at the distance of about 200 mm between two consecutive ones;- place minimum two clips on each side.2. Fix the clips with 3.5 fl at-head wood screw of suitable lenght according to the type of wood (soft or hard).

STP10 SHOCK THERMIC PROTECTION

L’idea della serie STP10, di offrire una garanzia di dieci anni sulle prestazioni della guarnizione, nasce dall’esigenza di proporre al mercato un prodotto innovativo ed esclusivo in grado di anticipare le richieste dei clienti che trovano espressione nei nuovi regolamen-ti e marchi di qualità che chiedono al serramento una garanzia nel tempo sulle prestazioni in opera. Uno per tutti il regolamento Finestra Qualità Casa Clima del serramento prevede una garanzia per 4 anni senza alcun intervento di manutenzione. Tra i compo-nenti del sistema serramento l’unico ad oggi che non presentava una garanzia sulle prestazioni era la guarnizione.

Con STP10 oltre alle eccellenti prestazioni della serie espanse siamo in grado di garantire per ben 10 anni le performance. Mai nessuno prima di noi era stato in grado di garantire nel tempo la stabilità delle prestazioni di una guarnizione per serramenti.Questo dimostra ancora una volta la forte connotazione innovativa della nostra azienda, oltre che la capacità di anticipare le esigenze di un mercato in rapida evoluzione.

Le condizioni della garanzia offerta sono riportate in un apposito contratto ed i termini riscontrabili direttamente sul prodotto: sulla schiena delle guarnizioni della serie STP10 è infatti riportato il nome della ditta Roverplastik, la sigla dell’articolo, l’operatore che l’ha prodotta, la data di produzione e quindi di inizio della garanzia. In questo modo, con la massima trasparenza, il cliente finale potrà in ogni istante e su qualsiasi serramento reperire i dati necessari sul modello di guarnizione e sulla data di inizio della garanzia.

Chiunque faccia prodotti di qualità non può già oggi, e ancor meno lo potrà fare domani, prescindere da queste garanzie, anche consi-derando che l’attenzione al risparmio dei consumi energetici di un edificio sarà sempre più sentita. Per non parlare, poi, di protocolli certificativi come Leed, CasaClima e Itaca dove le performance durature saranno sicuramente condizione necessaria per un loro utilizzo. The Research & Development offi ce, in which we constantly invest, collaborations with academic centres of excellence, and continuous exchanges with professionals who use our products every day, have led to the birth of the STP10 weatherstrips, seals belonging to the range of expanded ones and the Roverplastik’s new top product.The fi rst on the market, we started the production in our factory in Volano of these new seals, whose performances we are able to guarantee for10 years, continuing also to ensure all the main properties of the previous ranges.

Nobody else before us has been able to guarantee the stability of performances over time of a seal for windows. This once again demonstrates the strong connotation of our innovative company, as well as the ability to anticipate the needs of a rapidly changing market.

In fact, as a result of more and more demanding regulations regarding the energy saving and the sound insulation, the various marks (one among all the seal “Finestra CasaClima”) are beginning to provide a guarantee on construction products, that lasts for a certain period of time (4 years, for the “Finestra CasaClima” above).The interval of time in which the performance is guaranteed is intended, of course, without any maintenance.

The weatherstrip, as part of a window, contributes to this goal and must therefore ensure performance similar to those of the entire window.Anyone who already produces quality products today, and even more in the future, has tostrictly respect these standards, taking also into account that the attention to energy consumption of a building will increase in importance.Not to mention, then, of certifi cation protocols as LEED, CasaClima and Itaca, in which long-lasting performances will surely be a necessary condition for their application.

L’ufficio Ricerca & Sviluppo nel quale investiamo costantemente, le collaborazioni con centri di eccellenza universitari, gli scambi continui con i professionisti che utilizzano quotidianamente il nostro prodotto. Tutto questo ha portato alla nascita delle guarnizioni STP10, appar-tenenti alla gamma delle guarnizioni espanse e nuovo fiore all’occhiello di Roverplastik. Per primi sul mercato abbiamo infatti iniziato a produrre nel nostro stabilimento di Volano queste nuove guarnizioni, una evoluzione della nostra serie espanse (SERIE E). L’Università di Trento, con la quale collaboriamo da anni, ha messo a punto con il nostro supporto una procedura sperimentale per ottenere delle curve previsionali relative al comportamento della guarnizione nel tempo.

Il prodotto

La ricerca che ha portato alle nuove guarnizioni STP10 ha riguarda-to essenzialmente i materiali, con la scelta di mescole innovative, abbinate ad una modifica delle geometrie, anche se per queste ultime si tratta più che altro di adeguamenti. La nuova guarnizione STP10 andrà ad affiancare l’attuale gamma espansa con tutti gli articoli quindi duplicati, sfruttando le sinergie che derivano dalla condivisione delle linee produttive.

The research leading to new STP10 seals was focused on the materials, with the choice of innovative compounds, combined with a change in geometry, although the latter is more a question of adjustment. Cutting tool for the requalification of old window/door frames

The aluminiuim section for waterdrip were born from the need to peotect the most of the external windows and doors as weather protection and to trump the lower horizontal traverse, meeting, at the same time, the need to choose a material such as aluminium. Their function is also to give a continuous sealing around the entire perimeter.

The aluminium, in fact, is a material characterized by high thermal conductivity and constitutes a thermal bridge, a point in which there is a considerable fl ow of heath from inside to outside, causing the formation of sreas at a lower temperature. The presence of these cold areas in contact with the internal moist air helps the condensation, the main cause of deterioration of the materials and of appearance of molds. This problem was eliminated by taking inspiration from the most advanced solutions in the fi eld of the aluminium frames, that is to say the insertion of plastic profi les with a lower thermal conductivity in order to interrupt the thermal continuity between inside and outside the drip. The application of this thermal break determines a higher temperature in correspondence with the inner side of the window/door frame and of the drip, eliminating the condensation and reducing the heat loss.
