    2012-13 STUDENT GUIDELINES FOR

    PROJECT FUNDING

    Through the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music of the College ofMusical Arts, limited funding for student projects has been made available toencourage research and development activities in music written since 1945 andtechnology which supports the same. Exceptions to this time limitation will beconsidered by the Committee on an individual basis. Application forms areavailable from the Center's office (MMAC 3004) or in PDF format from theMACCM website (http://www.bgsu.edu/colleges/music/MACCM).

    EligibilityAll full-time graduate and undergraduate music majors currently enrolled in theCollege of Musical Arts are encouraged to apply for project funding. Support forsummer projects will only be awarded to students who expect to completedegrees at the end of that term or are returning to BGSU in the fall. Projects mustbe completed within one year of application and before the student leavesBGSU. This can be extended one year by written request to the center.

    ProjectsMACCM funds have been designated to encourage a wide variety of activities incontemporary music and new technology. These can include:

    1. Participation in workshops, conferences, meetings2. Development of research or teaching tools

    3. Guest lecturers, performers, composers, consultants, commissions4. Off-campus or special performances of contemporary music5. Sponsorship of workshops, clinics6. Short-term research projects, including project assistance

    Funding will notbe provided for:1. Equipment, supplies, materials or assistance normally obtained throughUniversity,College or Department budgets2. Ongoing student employment3. Faculty salaries or release time4. Activities that have already taken place5. Projects already receiving significant funding from MACCM6. Travel for performance competitions

    Categories & Suggested AmountsIndividuals may apply in more than one category and may apply for additionalgrants in the spring semester as funds permit.

    1. Research projects up to $2502. Developmental activities up to $250

    3. Travel up to $300 (National) or $400 (International)4. Emergency requests up to $1505. Lecturers, guest artists, consultants up to $200

    Applicants should attempt to secure support from all available Departmental,

    College, University and outside sources. All University limitations on food,lodging and travel apply. Established ensembles may request permission tosubmit one application for a group project.

    Review Process and TimetableDeadlines for research, development, and travel proposals are October 25,January 24 and April 4.Four (4) copies of the proposal should be submitted toMACCM(MMAC 3004) by the appropriate deadline date. Emergency grants areintended to meet urgentor unexpected needs, and requests for such grants maybe submitted at any time. However,the urgency of the request must be clearlydemonstrated. Students must have their proposals reviewed and signed by

    the Director of MACCM prior to submission, and must be accompanied by aletter of support from a faculty member. The Committee will convene as soonas possible after the deadlines to review applications.Emergency requests willbe reviewed as quickly as possible.

    Final Report & ReimbursementTo receive reimbursement, all projects should be completed according to theapplicants proposed timetable. Applicants must also submit a final report to theMACCM office, including copies of relevant program materials whereappropriate, within one semester of project completion.Applicants will beresponsible for filling out all relevant reimbursement paperwork before

    submitting it to the MACCM office for approval.
