sur·face noun1. the outer face, outside, or exterior boundary of a thing; outermost or uppermost layer or area.2. any face of a body or thing

After creating a barcode from a phone number, 49 contours were made. Following that, a surface was made to accentuate the highlights of the contours. The apperatures greater highlight where the two ridges join. The two layers create 3 spaces, each differing qualitatively: on the contours, between the surfaces, and above the surface.augmented surface basswood, piano wire, bristol board

po·ché noun1. Areas of an architectural plan or section that are filled-in, to show wall thicknesses, floor thicknesses and all other solid areas that intersect the plane of the section cut.

We were given a task of creating a wall for the Art Quad. I attempted to compliment the music in the area by creating 3 miniature bandshells that were also porous to the outside, yet private. The form is specific to instruments and acoustics.final model basswood, piano wire, acetate

house noun1. a building in which people live; residence for human beings.2. a family, including ancestorsnet·work noun1. any netlike combination of filaments, lines, veins, passages, or the like

After interviewing a millenial, it was our assignment to design a narrow house that would ideally fit between two existing suburban homes. My goal was to create privacy while still allowing a young professional to maintain changing networks. The fins allow for privacy while the floor plan lends itself to guests coming in and out.

The level that is on grade allows for a blurred threshold condition, with the lawn coming into the home. The green wall that runs up two stories accentuates the atrium space created by the view to below on the second floor.final house model basswood, plaster, plexiglass

the·ater noun1. a building where plays, shows, etc., are performed on a stagespec·ta·cle noun1. a very impressive show2. something that attracts attention because it is very unusual or very shocking

The short project was to design a small theater in downtown Omaha. I used the tectonic of tubes to create a dramatize lighting effects and create more of a spectacle. The curvature of the tubing structure wraps theater goers in light, while also creating numerous different effects, depending on the angle of the eye. A layering of displays and performances, gives the theater dimension. From the exterior, theater goers are the performers, from the auditorium prior to the show, the actors are the performers in a behind-the-scenes capactity, and during the show, the stage is the location of the show.axon of the tectonic of the lobby space

con·text noun1. the set of circumstances or facts that surround a particular event, situation, etc.

Located in rural Lincoln, NE this project focused on the integration of the building into the rural landscape, creating a blurred and complex border between the manmade and the natural by attention to the interval--the sequence. A visitor’s experience begins by changing elevations and passing under the building. This sectional change allows for a view to the landmark seed bank, storing seeds in case of disaster. The other programs border a large planting area, with large glass walkways adjoining each bar.axonometric diagrams: circulation and public/private

in·ter·face noun1. a surface regarded as the common boundary of two bodies, spaces, or phases.2. the facts, problems, considerations, theories, practices, etc., shared by two or more disciplines, procedures, or fields of study3. a common boundary or interconnection between systems, equipment, concepts, or human beings.

The seed bank is naturally a rural program, probably most suitable for a rural site. However, there are advantages to the urban site: namely, a higher density of visitors, learners and researchers; and the opportunity for a higher visibility of the landmark that is the seed bank. I attempted to designed in the interface between the two site conditions, as I felt that best satisfies the programmatic requirements of a seed bank, with the idea of it being used as a public forum. The exhibition space changes elevations to allow for the segmenting of spaces, much like rolling hills in the rural setting. The atrium space, acts as a location of the layering of different user groups. These exchanges allow for greater education in the seed bank. The stepping of the massing allows each lab access to the planting on the roof.massing diagram

na·ture noun1. the natural world as it exists without hu-man beings or civilization.

The intent is to create a snapshot of the moment at which nature has been so mani-cured that it has left behind the shell; the ghost of what it once was. Is nature simply an idea... the hollow fossil of itself?tree sculpture clear tape
