Madrid Internship Level 3 (MIP3) Program

Students who will be taking classes at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid(UAM)

must submit the registration material and complete the

UAM online registration (SIGMA)by October 20th, 2019.

Students are encouraged to contact Dana Gannon ([email protected])

with questions about the UAM registration process.

1. Registration Material

• Registration material (Learning Agreement) must be received by the BU Madrid office prior to October 19th, 2019.

• Please do not start filling out the Learning Agreement until you have read through this PDF (at least once).

• All documents should be emailed together to Dana Gannon ([email protected]). • Do not send any documents to UAM.

*Please keep a copy of all documents submitted for your records.

1.1 Learning Agreement

The Learning Agreement (or Contrato de Estudios; "LA") is the pre-registration document used by the ORI (Oficina de Relaciones Internacionales) at the UAM to reserve spots for incoming students in classes they would like to take.

ORI (Oficina de Relaciones Internacionales) = Study Abroad Office

• Students should complete the LA carefully to avoid registration problems once in Madrid.

NOTE: Students choose classes before arriving in Madrid on their Learning Agreement but official enrollment (matrícula) takes place on campus.

1.1 Learning Agreement (continued)

• M3 Internship students take 3 of their classes at the UAM and one class at the International Institute:• Two classes are through direct enrollment at the UAM, • Two classes are through BU Madrid:

• Seminar on Contemporary Spain is taught through BU Madrid at the UAM: all Level 3 students (M3, MIP/3, and M-SMG) take a seminar on Contemporary Spain in order to provide context for their other academic and cultural experiences as well as a rich awareness and understanding of Spain’s history.

• Prácticas is taught through BU Madrid at the International Institute: Students with internships take a class alongside their work as an academic component. The classwork comprises 80% of the final internship grade.

• Do not list the seminar on Contemporary Spain class or the prácticas class on the LA for the UAM.

• Note that although UAM classes are listed as 6 créditos ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) all classes (including the seminar and prácticas) are equivalent to 4 BU credits. Make sure you choose 6-credit classes!

1.1 Learning Agreement (continued)

Refer to the following

instructions slides (6-9)

before filling out your own

Learning Agreement.

Facultades at the UAM

• Madrid 3 internship students can take classes at six facultades (schools of study) at the UAM: Ciencias (Environmental Science, Math, Biology, etc.)

Ciencias Económicas y Empresariales (Business, Marketing, Economics, Tourism, etc.)

Derecho (Political Science, International Relations)

Filosofía y Letras (History, Anthropology, Linguistics, Spanish Literature and Language, etc)

Psicología (Psychology)

Formación de Profesorado y Educación (Education)

• M3 internship students need to look at the facultades and decide where they will take their classes.

Facultad Guidelines

• UAM requires (encourages?) students to take both of their classes in the same facultad;

• However, there has been some leniency with this, so please contact Dana ([email protected]) regarding this issue!

• BU urges all students select the classes and the facultadcarefully as changing classes can be a difficult and time-consuming process once registered.

Class Guidelines

All of your classes are taught in grado “G” (undergraduate) Not posgrado, licenciatura, diplomatura, etc.

M3 internship students are not permitted to take first year (freshman) classes (primer/1º curso).

M3 internship students are not permitted to take classes from the Facultad de Medicina.

* Make sure you register for “2º semestre” classes!

How to Search for Classes at the UAM

Click here for the instructions to find classes and schedules. Be sure to keep track of the “grupo” for your class.

Grupos (groups) determine your final exam date.

Some classes have different desdobles (discussion): You can choose either one for a given class, but you cannot change it once the semester starts. This may be assigned to you by your professor.

Two exam dates are listed.

The first, evaluación ordinaria, is the date of your exam.

The second is only for Spanish students (not Study Abroad students).

Any questions regarding credit transfer to home universities must be discussed with your own advisors at your home institute.
