Cloud 9I have decided to call my magazine “Cloud 9”. Cloud 9 is a saying for a sense of euphoria which I intend to have come across in my magazine.

My magazine will be based around chart music however it would also contain other content such as clothing in order to add variety and interest the reader. There will also be competitions where in each magazine issue there’s a code, and every month someone will win tickets to a gig.

The demographic for my audience is predominantly male although it will take the female population into consideration with then design in order for it to appeal to both genders. The age range is large due to the fact that there are so many people that are exposed to listening to chart music.

From the research I have carried out I have acquired enough information to decide choices that I will take out. For example, most people would spend £2-£3 on a music magazine so I have decided to price my magazine at £2.50.

MY QUESTIONNAIRE WAS COMPLETED BY 62 PEOPLE, of all ages both equally male and female, this was done to get more reliable and valid results.TO GET A WIDER DEMOGRAPHIC AND A FAIRER RESULTS, I published my questionnaire on Survey Monkey in order to get a random sample.

PEOPLE WITH CERTAIN AGES CAN NOT BE REACHED ON SURVEY MONKEY,I printed my questionnaire and gave it out to random chosen audience. However I also did target people that were older than 25 and teenagers at College, this is so that there is more fair results and a wider opinion.

WHEN MY QUESTIONNAIRE WAS DONE I collected the results and counted the answers for each of the 12 questions and put them in bar graphs, pie charts etc. I used percentages to make my results more professional and accurate. I then commented on the results of each question on what I have found out. I also added extra information of people parents job and on how that effects the peoples choices.

Most of the people that filled out the questionnaire were 19–25 year olds, followed by 16-18.

Most parents were employed. I left them some space to write what their parents work, this would help me know what type of income households are interested on what or how it effects their choice.

Page 10: Magazine analysis

I divided the employment of peoples parents to 3 categories which were: Lower class jobs. E.g. Waiters, sales assistant Middle class jobs. E.g. Teachers, fraudofficers Upper class jobs. E.g. Bankers, doctors

From the lower class jobs I found out that literally everyone both male and female buy no magazines what so ever and all are willing to spend 0-£2 on magazines. Additionally all of them consume their music by fully downloading music illegally. Also I found out them some of them where students and looking for work at the same time, this was about 50% of them. From the middle class jobs I found out yet again that both males and females buy no magazines at all, however more than half are willing to spend in the range of £3-£4 on the purchase of magazines. For this I found out that about 60% of the people consume their music legally, there was arange of answers on how they consumed it was very random as some purchased CD’s, some attended concerts, some watched it on TV or the internet, and some legally download it. From the upper class jobs, unlike the lower and middles class jobs, some people actually purchased music magazines, however this was predominantly rock music fans. Surprisingly for this one most people were willing to spend up to £2 on magazines. Also surprisingly 90% consumed their music by downloading it illegally from the internet. While the remaining 10% consumed it by legal internet music downloads. I have found out how the employment of the parents/carers immensely effects the minors lifestyle and choices in life. And that not higher paid jobs necessarily mean that teenagers would spend more on certain things, as this was proved above.

Although from this chart it says that I should sell my magazine for free but then this would mean my revenue would mainly be from advertising and this would be hard to get advertisers until my brand awareness increased. This is why I decided to go for the second highest figure I got which was £2-£3. I decided to sell Cloud 9 for £2.50 as this was in the middle of the prices and seemed most sensible.

79% of the people said they don’t buy any music magazines, which is a massive disadvantage. And 18% said they buy magazines weekly, followed by a minor 3% that buy it monthly. I have decided to release it every week but have a special monthly edition as most professional best-selling magazines are sold monthly.

Freebies

When asking my audience if they would like freebies with their magazine 100% of them said yes. I thought this was a pretty obvious outcome so decided that with the monthly special edition I would give a freebie out then rather than have one given away every week. This could be a 12 piece collection where you win a prize to see a band if you collected them all ect.

How do you consume music?

Radio

40% said they mainly consumed their music by downloading it illegally from the internet. Followed by a 24% that consume it by watching it on TV or websites such as YouTube. Therefore I have decided that as most people are download it illegally, I would use that in a good way to market my magazine by providing in each issue free music downloads from the magazines website and other freebies.

Employment

85% of the people who took my questionnaire either had a full time job or had a part time job and were still at college. This meant that the majority of my audience would have income to spend on things they like (such as a magazine). I think that by putting my magazine at £2.50 would not be too expensive for my audience.
