Salford City College Eccles Centre AS Media Studies Foundation Portfolio
Masthead- bold dark colour to stand out, edited to
look jagged and original. This appeals to the target
audience
Main image- swearing and make up on the man
helps us to establish the target audience and hints
that it is older teenagers as he is swearing.
Wearing very dark clothes which links with the
genre of rock.
Model credit
The name of the people (band/boy group) in the
image is included in the magazine cover.
Coverlines: ‘free poster pull-out’ attracts the
audience because it is something free. ‘panic! At
the disco’ and ‘from first to last’ explains to us
what is inside of the magazine and may drive
people to buy the magazine to see more about
these things.
Main cover line
The main cover line involves the name of the main
image which is also like model credit, helps the
readers to know who it is and what the magazine
will include.
Colour- very dark background with brighter text to
stand out and could also show that it is aimed
towards both males and females as the bright
colours are yellow and pink which are considered
feminism and masculine.
Typefaces
Bolder text is used on the things that are needed to
stand out such as the main cover headline, or where
the free poster pull out is advertised
Photography Lighting
The lighting is very dull which fits in with the
theme/target audience as we stereotypically
associate the colour black (or dark colours) with this
theme.
Design Principles Used?
The Guttenberg principle has been used as they have
drawn the attention from the top right where they
would start reading to where the main headlines are,
this will help the viewers of the magazine to want to
buy it and read on.
House Style
Brighter colours used on top of a dark background with white text to help the text to
stand out and appeal to the target audience. Mainly dark colours are used as this links in
with the target audience.
Target audience: teenagers who listen to rock music
