Mark Bradford born in 1961 is a African-Americancontemporary artist. He was born and raised in LosAngeles, CA and still currently lives there. Bradford spenthis early years working at his mother’s hair salon, where heused materials from the salon and incorporated them intohis work. He’s developed an artistic style by using foundmaterials into his multi-layered abstract creations. Hisfifty-foot wide painting Deep Blue (2018) depicts a map ofthe city of Los Angeles.

Using the oilpastels, color inthe entire paperwith colors ofyour choice.

Choose twocomplementary paintcolors and black paint. Mixblack paint with a fewdrops of dish soap andpaint the entire paper.

Using the hard end ofthe paintbrush or theedge of your scissorsyou can begin toscratch off the blackpaint to reveal the oilpastel layer.

Flip through the magazinesand cut out a few pagesand words that bestrepresent you. Begin tosoak the cutouts of themagazines in a bowl ofwater.

To add texture,crumble up themagazine and beginto paste them withglue.

Use your complementarypaints to paint over parts ofyour paper. You can also flickthe paint off your paintbrush toadd another layer. Continue the illusion ofBradford’s multi-layered styleby repeating steps 3-6.

Mark Bradford nacido en el año 1961 y es un artistacontemporáneo Afro-Americano. Nació y creció en Los Ángeles,California, y todavía vive allí. Bradford pasó sus primeros añostrabajando en el salón de peluquería de su madre, donde usómateriales del salón y los incorporó a su trabajo.Ha desarrolladoun estilo artístico utilizando materiales encontrados en suscreaciones abstractas de múltiples capas. Su obra de arte quemide cincuenta pies de ancho, Deep Blue (2018) representa unmapa de la ciudad de Los Ángeles. La pintura también documentala violencia que ocurrió durante la Rebelión de Watts de 1965 congrandes montículos de pintura que se proyecta desde el lienzo.
