Water meterModel MAGDOS FL(S) can be addressed bycommercial contact water meters. In order to avoiddisturbing influences or faulty pulses, the pumpshould not be mounted directly to the water counter. However, if an adapter is used providing for a distanceof 50 mm a direct mounting is allowed. Preferably thepump should be mounted to the chemical tank or toa wall holder. The electronic system is designed fora maximum input frequency of 105 contacts perminute. The pulse sequence of the water metershould be designed accordingly.
GeneralIn many processes in water and waste watertreatment as well as in swimming pools meteringpumps are required which can be adapted preciselyto the corresponding process and the necessaryfunctions regarding their metering capacity. Mete-ring pumps of the MAGDOS E/EL/FL series weredesigned such that you can select the appropriatepump for each specific task.
MAGDOS E-Pump control for continuous operation at 100 strokesper minute.
MAGDOS EL-Pump control for continuous operation at 100 strokesper minute allowing the connection of a self-monitoringlow-level electrode.
MAGDOS FL-Pump control for external control by means of watermeter, controller and any other potential-free contacts.Per each incoming control contact the pump carriesout a stroke. In order to protect the pump againstoverheating the control unit allows only a maximumfrequency of up to 100 strokes per minute. As aprotection against dry operation it is possible toconnect a self-monitoring low-level electrode.
Pumps of the EL and FL series are optionally alsoavailable with a fault indicator relay (type ELS andFLS) for a remote alarm signal if the level of themetering medium is too low or in the case of powerfailure.
The metering capacity is in the range of 0.1 to 12 l/h.The exact metering output and the possiblebackpressure are shown in the feed characteristicsin MB 1 02 05 / 5 and 6. Metering quantity adjustmentis stepless and carried out via stroke length byactuating a threaded bush. The diaphragm stroke isproduced by means of a DC solenoid. Reductiongears or rotating parts are not used which guaranteesa high operational safety and maintenenance-freeoperation.
All types are designed to meet the requirements of ofthe German Water and Gas Association and DIN19635 and are also available as CSA/UL-versions.

Operating and Maintenance Instructions
metering pump fails. We recommend installing leakageprobes and containment tanks.Metering pumps are produced according to highestquality standards and have a long service life.Nevertheless some parts are subject to wear (e.gdiaphragm, valve seats, valve balls). To ensure longoperating life, visual checks are required regularly.Operating and maintenance personnel must be ableto access the pump easily. Periodic maintenanceprotects the metering pump against shutdowns. To increase the metering accuracy and reliability, werecommend using additional fittings. These includebackpressure valves, relief valves, leakage probes, and chemical low level indicators, as shown in figures1 to 3.Always use appropriate tools for the installation ofplastic connecting parts. In order to avoid damage, never apply excessive force; plastic parts (especiallyPVC parts) can be screwed and unscrewed moreeasily if the thread is lubricated with vaseline orsilicone grease before.Note: For this purpose, the compatibility with thechemical to be metered must be checked.MAGDOS metering pumps with integrated levelcontrol function are equipped with a short-circuit jackplug which must be removed before connecting alevel control by means of a jack plug. To keep theprotection class, screw a PG plastic sleeve on thejack plug. The required PG sleeve is part of the levelcontrol (also in combination with a suction line).Mounting the metering pump directly on the watermeter may result in noise level amplification. In thiscase, it is recommended to mount the pump onseparate wall brackets which, for the same reason, should be fixed to outer walls instead of interior wallswith adjacent occupied rooms. It is also possible tomount the pump directly on the metering supplytank.Ambient temperatures exceeding 40°C are notpermitted. Radiant heat of apparatus and heatexchangers must be kept in limits allowing the pumpto sufficiently dissipate its own heat. Exposure todirect sunlight should be avoided especially for mete-ring pumps with plastic housings because the blackplastic material can be damaged. If the pump isinstalled outside, provide an enclosure to protect itagainst weather.Wiring of the MAGDOS metering pump must becarried out by a specialist according to the localregulations. Normally the MAGDOS is connectedwith a safety plug. The electrical data for all MAGDOSdata is listed in Table 14 "Technical data".Note: The MAGDOS metering pumps are not suitedto be used in explosive environments.Do not lay signal cables of water meters or0(4)...20mA controls parallel to high-voltage current
Keep the operating instructions of the meteringpump and the accessories readily accessible.

1. GeneralSolenoid metering pumps can be used in manyapplications. It is a particular advantage that they canbe controlled proportionally to water meter contacts. They are also suited to be used as regulating units inautomatic control systems. See table 13 for variouscontrol types and monitoring facilities.
2. Scope of deliveryBe careful when unpacking the metering pump andpossible accessories in order not to miss smallparts. Compare the scope of delivery to the deliverynote. If there are any discrepancies, try to find out thereason.
3. InstallationFor selection of a pump during construction of a plantas well as for installation and operation, the localrules must be observed. This applies to the selectionof suitable pump materials, the handling of thechemicals and the electrical installation. At thesame time the technical data of the metering pumpaccording to table 12 must be considered, and theplant must be designed correspondingly (e.g. pressureloss in lines depending on nominal diameter andlength). Both, the designer and the user are responsible tomake sure that the whole plant including the mete-ring pump is constructed so that neither plantequipment nor buildings are severely damaged in thecase of chemical leakage due to the failure of wearparts (e.g. diaphragm rupture) or burst tubing. Whenconstructing chemical plants, the installation mustbe carried out so that no consequential damagesappear which are unreasonably high even if the

or power supply lines. Supply and signal lines mustbe laid in separate channels. In the case of junctions,a 90° angle is required. If the water meter controlcable is more than 2 meters long, it must be shielded. To avoid incorrect metering after the process isfinished, provide an electric and hydraulic interlockingsystem.
4. Injection fitting assemblyInjection nozzles prevent the liquid from returning tothe pump by using either a spring-loaded ball valve ora hose valve. We recommend vertical injection frombottom to top to allow air to escape thereby avoidingchemical precipitation. Experience with the particularmetering chemical and all appropriate characteristicsmust be taken into account.
5. Safety instructions⇒ When working on chemical equipment, observethe local safety rules (e.g. wear personal protectiveclothes).⇒ Before working on the metering pump and plant, disconnect it from the main power supply and secureit against reconnection. Before the voltage supply isswitched on again, the metering lines must beconnected so that chemical left in the metering headcannot spurt out.⇒ The metering head of the pump as well asconnections and lines in the plant may be underpressure. Working on the metering plant requiresspecial safety precautions and may only be carriedout by instructed technical personnel.⇒ Before startup, all screwed connections must bechecked for correct tightness and, if necessary, must be tightened up using appropriate tools.⇒ If connections at the metering head areunscrewed during operation for venting or otherreasons, leaking chemical must be removedcompletely. This is the only way to avoid the dangerof physical injury and corrosion at the meteringpump. Leaking chemical may also destroy thediaphragm at its mounting points.⇒ When changing the chemical, check whether thematerials used for the metering pump and the otherplant parts are chemically resistant. If there is the danger of a chemical reaction betweendifferent media, a thorough cleaning first ismandatory.⇒ After adjustment work at the control panel of theMAGDOS, the control cover must be closed again(the cover is not available for all MAGDOS types).Otherwise protection class IP 65 cannot beguaranteed.⇒ After changing the electrical connections, e.g.removing the level control, the PG cable gland nutmust be tightened in order to ensure the protectionclass of the pump.

8. Replacing the diaphragmThe diaphragm can be easily removed and replacedaccording to the exploded drawing. To facilitateremoval of the old diaphragm, first set the stroke to"0" while pump is running. If the diaphragm rod isturning it can be stopped by means of a locking pin(JESCO P/N 29379). The drilled hole in the diaphragmrod can be accessed through the drainage channel.
Suction valve Drainage tubeMetering head Snap ring
Grease diaphragm rod with Molycote.
The deflector plate must rest in the diaphragm rodgroove. Ensure that it is not clamped between thediaphragm rod and the support plate. If the diaphragmis supplied with a support plate, clean or replace thelatter before mounting it.
9. Drive solenoidsDepending on the pump version, the solenoid designdiffers. The following table shows the coil resistanceat 20°C room temperature. With perfect coils, theresistance tolerance should not exceed +/-5%. If theresistance is substantially lower, there is a short inthe coil, if the resistance is indefinitely high, the coilis fused or the wire is broken.
7. Startup
ATTENTION!Adjust the stroke length only while pump isrunning.
1. For first startup, set pump to maximum strokefrequency or press start key and allow to prime. For this purpose, it is advisable to set thestroke to "10". If the pump doesn't prime, removedischarge valve and pour water or chemical (ifharmless!) into head. Mount the valve and allowto prime again (priming aid, item 14, fig. 2 isrecommended).
2. If a venting facility is integrated in the meteringhead or is available as separate unit, open it andwait until liquid escapes. Then close it again. Inthe case of effervescent liquids allow the liquidto escape permanently (approx. 1 drop for1...3 strokes).
3. When correct operation is achieved, set torequired output and lock adjusting knob. Referto the calibration table attached to the pump toget the stroke length setting for a selected output(ml/pulse). The back pressure influences aretaken into consideration in the table, andintermediate values must be interpolated.Depending on the installation and the chemicalsused, these values may differ and must bechecked under operating conditions.
Example:
Required metering capacity: 0.8 ml/pulse against8 bar.The table says H=9.9. Adjust knob "H" accordinglywhile the pump is running.
4. In the case of externally actuated pumps (e.g. bywater meters), set pump to "external". Initiatethe water flow by opening a water valve andcheck pump pulse rate.
5. The manufacturer of the metering equipment isnot responsible for damages due to excessive orlow flow rates resulting from faulty pump settingsor incorrect and insufficient installation ofperipheral fittings.

10. Correction of stroke length settingTo avoid excessive metering, the metering line mustbe returned to the chemical tank during setting (ifnecessary).
1. Operate pump with automatic control (ifnecessary, by pressing the start key for FL).
2. Regardless of the indicator position, loosen thefastening screw and turn the stroke lengthadjustment knob counterclockwise until the pumpno longer delivers or, in the case of no-pressuredelivery, the flow rate has reached the minimum. If zero delivery could not be attained becausethe knob reached the stop position, remove theknob after loosening the fastening screw, turn itto the right and reattach it. Then turn again to theleft until the pump no longer delivers.

GeneralMAGDOS DE / DX solenoid metering pumps combinethe digital technology of state-of-the-artmicroprocessors with high-quality mechanics. Due toits versatility in the area of external control, the newMAGDOS series is very flexible. The pump can besupplied with a digital display upon request. The displayshows the different operating conditions and possibleerror messages.
The new MAGDOS is available in two basic versionswith the following features:
MAGDOS DE- Internal control with continuous stroke frequency
adjustment from 0 to 100 strokes per minute forDE 01...12 and 0...70 strokes per minute forDE 20...100
- Changeover function to external pulse control bywater meter or other voltage-free contacts
- Connection for level control with alarm signal
MAGDOS DX- Internal control with continuous stroke frequency
adjustment from 0 to 100 strokes per minute forDX 01...12 and 0...70 strokes per minute forDX 20...100
- Changeover function to external control by0/4...20 mA standard signal
- Changeover function to external pulse control bywater meter or other voltage-free contacts
- Pulse multiplication with factors 2/4/8/16/32/64- Pulse division with divisors 2/4/8/16/32/64- Connection for level control with alarm signal
As an alternative, both versions can be supplied withwarning alarm relay and digital display. The meteringcapacities range between 0.1 l/h at 10 bar and115 l/h at 1.5 bar. Refer to MB 1 02 20 / 6-7 for exactperformance curves, the output per pulse is set bychanging the stroke length via the stroke adjustmentknob.
The pumps are designed to meet the requirements ofDVGW-DIN 19635 and CSA/UL.
Magnetic driveThe stroke movement of the metering diaphragm isproduced by a d.c. solenoid. Due to the infinitelyadjustable stroke stop, it is possible to set a stroke of0-6 mm, depending on the pump size. Reduction gearsor rotating parts are not used, resulting in high reliabilityand low maintenance work. The armature runs in amaintenance-free DU bushing with PTFE coating andadditional silicone grease lubrication.
Control unitThe main part of the control unit is a microprocessorwhich controls the stroke frequency with digitalaccuracy. The various control possibilities allow thepump to be adapted to practically all requirements ofhome water supply, water and waste water treatmentas well as industrial pocesses. The electronic controlunit is available in two basic versions with functionsdescribed below.

Water metersThe MAGDOS DE/DX can be controlled by any watermeter with voltage-free contacts. For water meterswhich pulse too fast or too slow for the pump, the pulsedivision or multiplication function of the pump can beused to adapt the pump to the water meter. In the caseof pulse division, the maximum stroke frequency isrestricted (see MB 1 02 20/4).
In order to avoid interference or false pulses, do notmount the pump directly on the water meter. If adapterswhich ensure a distance of 50 mm are used, directmounting is possible. With this kind of installation, pulsedivision or multiplication must not be used. It isrecommended to mount the pump on the chemical tankor to the wall.

External controla) ContactIn order to protect the pump against overheating, themaximum input frequency is limited to 70 or 100 pulses/minute. If the input frequency is higher, each third orfourth metering stroke is not carried out. Thereforeexternal pulse transmitters should be designed so thatthe maximum stroke frequency is not exceeded.
b) Contact with pulse division/multiplicationIncoming control pulses can be divided or multipliedby setting the selector switch correspondingly.
1) Ratio 1:1
2) Pulse multiplicatione.g. setting to 8-- one control pulse results in 8 meteringstrokesNote: The metering strokes are carried outat maximum stroke frequency.
3) Pulse divisione.g. setting to 16-- one metering stroke is carried out after16 incoming control pulses.
When setting pulse division to 32, the maximum strokefrequency is reduced to 70 strokes/min.; with divisor64, it is max. 36 strokes/min..
c) Standard signal 0/4...20mATo control the pump by standard signal 0/4...20 mA,operate the selector switch. The linearity of convertingthe signal into stroke frequency is +/- 3%. Example of an orderA solenoid metering pump controllable by water metercontacts is required for metering 0.4 ml phosphate perstroke against 8 bar. For remote monitoring from acentral control station, a warning alarm relay is to beprovided.
Pump selectiona ) Based on the flow rate of 0.4 ml/stroke, the
MAGDOS 4 is determined according to theperformance curve (MB 1 02 20/6). Because of therequired warning alarm relay, the control unit ofpump type DE4S, Part No. 33942, must be chosenfrom table 2.
b ) Select drive Part No. 32720 from table 1.c ) Part No. 23.809 is chosen as metering head (PVC
is compatible with phosphate).d ) For the suction and discharge valves, select Part
No. 20.890 and No. 20.891 (PVC and Viton areresistant).
e ) See table 5 for suction connection Part No. 20975for ø 4/6 tubing and discharge connection Part No.32980 for ø 6/12 tubing.
f) The suction line, preferable with level control, canbe found in MB 1 22 01.

Operating and Maintenance Instructions
appear which are unreasonably high even if themetering pump fails. We recommend installingleakage probes and containment tanks.Metering pumps are produced according to highestquality standards and have a long service life.Nevertheless some parts are subject to wear (e.gdiaphragm, valve seats, valve balls). To ensure longoperating life, visual checks are required regularly.Operating and maintenance personnel must beable to access the pump easily. Periodicmaintenance protects the metering pump againstshutdowns. To increase the metering accuracy and reliability,we recommend using additional fittings. Theseinclude backpressure valves, relief valves, leakageprobes, and chemical low level indicators, as shownin figures 1 to 3.Always use appropriate tools for the installation ofplastic connecting parts. In order to avoid damage, never apply excessive force; plastic parts (especiallyPVC parts) can be screwed and unscrewed moreeasily if the thread is lubricated with vaseline orsilicone grease before.Note: For this purpose, the compatibility with thechemical to be metered must be checked.MAGDOS metering pumps with integrated levelcontrol function are equipped with a short-circuitjack plug which must be removed before connectinga level control by means of a jack plug. Exposure todirect sunlight should be avoided especially formetering pumps with plastic housings because theblack plastic material can be damaged. If the pumpis installed outside, provide an enclosure to protectit against weather.Wiring of the MAGDOS metering pump must becarried out by a specialist according to the localregulations. Normally the MAGDOS is connectedwith a safety plug. The electrical data for all MAGDOSdata is listed in Table 14 "Technical data".Note: The MAGDOS metering pumps are not suitedto be used in explosive environments.
Keep the operating instructions of the meteringpump and the accessories readily accessible.

1. GeneralSolenoid metering pumps can be used in manyapplications. It is a particular advantage that theycan be controlled proportionally to water metercontacts. They are also suited to be used asregulating units in automatic control systems. Seetable 13 for various control types and monitoringfacilities.
2. Scope of deliveryBe careful when unpacking the metering pump andpossible accessories in order not to miss smallparts. Compare the scope of delivery to the deliverynote. If there are any discrepancies, try to find outthe reason.
3. InstallationFor selection of a pump during construction of aplant as well as for installation and operation, thelocal rules must be observed. This applies to theselection of suitable pump materials, the handling ofthe chemicals and the electrical installation. At thesame time the technical data of the metering pumpaccording to table 12 must be considered, and theplant must be designed correspondingly (e.g.pressure loss in lines depending on nominal diameterand length). Both, the designer and the user are responsible tomake sure that the whole plant including the meteringpump is constructed so that neither plant equipmentnor buildings are severely damaged in the case ofchemical leakage due to the failure of wear parts(e.g. diaphragm rupture) or burst tubing. Whenconstructing chemical plants, the installation mustbe carried out so that no consequential damages

Do not lay signal cables of water meters or0(4)...20mA controls parallel to high-voltage currentor power supply lines.
4. Injection fitting assemblyInjection nozzles prevent the liquid from returning tothe pump by using either a spring-loaded ball valveor a hose valve. We recommend vertical injectionfrom bottom to top to allow air to escape therebyavoiding chemical precipitation. Experience withthe particular metering chemical and all appropriatecharacteristics must be taken into account.

The drilled hole in thediaphragm rod can be accessed through the drainagechannel.
7. Startup
ATTENTION!Adjust the stroke length only whi le pump isrunn ing.

3. Attach knob so that the indicator is pointing to "0"and, with the knob tightly held, fasten screw.
4. Run pump according to a setting of the outputtable. If there is a major discrepancy, correct theknob position.

In the case of 0(4)...20mA signal control (only MAGDOS DX) it is important that the signal line doesn't come intocontact with ground, if the signal source is not isolated (individual voltage separators upon request). The linearityof converting the signal into stroke frequency is +/- 3%.
