ERP

ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is a collection of multimedia arrangements that helps to grasp company procedures for an whole organization. It is projected to incorporate all data processing prop for an whole organization. It integrates all the departments and purposes across a firm into a solitary computer arrangement that can assist all those disparate departments particular needs.ERP was introduced by research and analyst Gartner in 1990. ERP arrangements nowadays endeavor to cover all core purposes of an enterprise, irrespective of companys nature or charter. These arrangements can nowadays be discovered in non-manufacturing companies, non-profit associations and government organizations. To be considered an ERP arrangement, a multimedia package have to furnish the purpose of at least two systems. For example, a multimedia package that provides both payroll and accounting purposes might technically be believed an ERP multimedia package.Examples of modules in an ERP which formerly would have been stand-alone applications include Product lifecycle management, Supply chain management (e.g. Purchasing, Manufacturing and Distribution), Warehouse Management, Customer Relationship Management(CRM), Sales Order Processing, Online Sales, Financials, Human Resources, and Decision Support System.Like SCM (Supply Chain Management) this is oversight of materials, data, finances as they move in a procedure from supplier to producer to wholesaler to retailer to customer. In short SCM involves coordinating and incorporating the flows both inside and amid the companies.SCM benefits:1) Lowers supply and storage cost.2) Smooth flow of goods inwards and outwards.3) Better inventory management.4) Powerful delivery scheduling.5) End-to-end visibility of supply and demand.ERP arrangements normally grasp and handles the producing, logistics, distribution, inventory, shipping, invoicing, and accounting for a company. ERP software assists in the manipulation and control of various business economical activities encompassing of sales, marketing, delivery, billing, production, inventory management, quality management and human resource management.ERP arrangements saw a colossal boost in sales in the 1990s as firms confronted the Y2K setback in their legacy systems. Many firms seized this opportunity to substitute their legacy data arrangements alongside ERP systems. This quick development in sales was pursued by a slump in 1999, at that period most firms had by now implemented their Y2K solution. ERPs are frequently incorrectly said to be back office system showing that customers and general people are not undeviatingly involved. This is contrasted alongside with front office systems like customer relationship management (CRM) systems that deal directly with the customers or the eBusiness systems such as eCommerce, eGovernment, eTelecom. ERPs offer cross-organisational functions in an organization. All functioning departments that are encompassed in procedures or production are consolidated in one system. ERP-II a term coined a term coined in the early 2000's, is frequently utilized to describe that what would be the next generation of ERP software. This new creation of this multimedia is web-based, and allowed both inner operatives, and external resources such as suppliers and clients real-time access to the data and information stored inside the system. ERP-II is additionally disparate in that the multimedia can be made to fit the company, instead of the company being made to fit the ERP software. As of 2009, countless ERP solution providers have incorporated these features into their present offerings. EAS Enterprise Application software Suite is a new term for beforehand industrialized ERP arrangements that contain (almost) all segments of company, employing ordinary Internet browsers as Thin clients. When requesting an ERP arrangement, associations can select amid customizing the multimedia or modifying their company procedures to the "best practice" purpose held in the "out-of-the-box" edition of the software.Prior to ERP, multimedia was industrialized to fit the procedures of an individual business. Due to the complexities of most ERP arrangements and the negative aftermath of a floundered ERP implementation, most vendors have encompassed "Best Practices" into their software. These "Best Practices" are what the Vendor deems as the most effectual method to hold out a particular company procedure in an Consolidated Enterprise-Wide system. A research led by Ludwigshafen University of Applied Science surveyed 192 firms and finished that firms that requested industry best practices cut mission-critical undertaking tasks such as configuration, documentation, assessing and training. In addition, the use of best practices decreased risk by 71% after comparing it with other software implementations.

Advantages of ERP:In the nonexistence of an ERP arrangement, a large number of manufacturers could find themselves with number of software and multimedia that cannot converse, communicate efficiently and effectively with each other. Tasks that require to interface with one another will involve:1) Integration among different functional areas within the organization to ensure proper communication, productivity and efficiency.2) Design engineering (how to make product the best).3) Order tracking from the point of acceptance through fulfillment. 4) The revenue cycle, from invoice through cash receipt.5) Tracking the three-way match between purchase orders (what was ordered), inventory receipts (what arrived), and costing (what the vendor invoiced).ERP Systems centralize the data in one place. Benefits of this include: Eliminates the setback of synchronizing adjustments among multiple systems. Permits control and manipulation of businesss processes, procedures that cross functional boundaries. Provides complete Top-down view(no question for "islands of information") Reduces the high chances of risk involving loss of sensitive data by consolidating multiple permissions and security models within a single structure. Some security functions within the ERP system are included with the main motive of protection of both outsider crime which is like Industrial Espionage and also insider crime such as embezzlement for example there might be a situation in which a disgruntled employee who would intentionally modify the prices so as to below the break-even point in order to interfere with the companys profit or other sabotage which might lead to serious consequencesERP system normally furnishes functionality for implementing internal controls to prevent actions of this kind. ERP vendors are additionally advancing in the direction of larger integration with different kinds of security tools.

Disadvantages of ERP:The biggest problem with the ERP systems are the insufficient investment which actually involves ongoing training for the IT personnel which includes testing and the implementation changes. Another thing is the lack of organizational policy which helps in protecting and safeguarding the integration of data in the ERP systems and the way it to be used.Disadvantages: 1)You can customize ERP up to a level as customization of ERP software is pretty limited.2) Business processes requiring Re-engineering as being prescribed by the ERP system so as to fit the Industry Standard could lead in the loss of the competitive advantage end result of which could be serious.3) Investment incurred in the ERP system could be pretty expensive.4) ERPs are frequently perceived as too rigid and too tough to change to the specific workflow and business process of some companies this is considered as one of the main reasons of ERP failure.5) Once the ERP system is instituted and established cost in terms of switching cost could be pretty expensive for the concerned partners.6) There can be chances which includes resisting of sharing of internal information that is sensitive among different departments could lead to the failure of ERP.7) ERP systems centralizes the whole lot of data in to single system this is further increases the risk of losing the sensitive information leading to security breach.Structure of the ERP system:Ideally ERP brings a solitary Database that encompasses all data for the software that should contain:1) Manufacturing: Bills of material, Scheduling, Work flow management, Quality control, Cost management, Manufacturing Process, Manufacturing Projects.2) Supply chain management: Inventory, order entry, purchasing, supply chain planning, supplier scheduling, Inspection of goods, claim processing, commission calculation3) Financial: General ledger, Cash management, Accounts payable, Accounts receivable, Fixed assets.4) Human resources: Human resources, Payroll, Training, Time and Attendance Rostering, Benefits.5) Customer relationship management: Sales and marketing, Commissions, Service, Call center support.

From the day Siebel was founded Siebel grew at a very high paced rate and was even given the title of fastest growing company in United States by Times and Fortune magazine. The reason behind Siebels success was its wonderful ability to form alliances. By the late 2000 Siebel dad more 800 alliance partners.Distinguishing Between above mentioned five vendors on the basis of: 1. Implementation:When it comes to implementation Peoplesoft stands first amongst Microsoft, SAP and Siebel's in getting the Software being installed by the implementing team and then implementing and deploying it with the help of comprehensive configuration details which provides every single detail so that the software can be installed easily.Oracle also stands out to be on top in case of areas of configuration, data migration and loading and also the web services but compared to other peoplesoft has done a remarkable job as compared to other ERP vendors in streamlining its configuration and integration tools.

2. Usability:While evaluating the usability feature PeopleSoft and Siebel both are on the top. The application screen are organized in a task-oriented manner and the screens layout are so consistent in each module that helps in increasing productivity by enabling the end-user to complete the tasks quickly and that too with less errors.SAP was found to be at last because it requires proper expertise and guidance and is least user friendly.3. Maintenance, Support, and Upgrades:Peoplesoft again begs the top position because of its additional application Peopletools which in advance resolves any issue being faced by the application. Peoplesoft has streamlined upgrades which automatically upgrade it as an when is required unlike the Microsofts Great Plain which works in client server environment which needs clients to be upgraded too.NOTE: If due to some issue the software thus bought is not installed properly, correctly then whole process of implementation will suffer leading to the failure of whole system. Maintenance cost will be high and it will basically comprise of repetitive tasks like performing the upgrades plenty of times throughout the lifecycle of that business application, while bad and poor diagnostic tools leads uncertain downtimes leading the whole business operations at halt. While usability affects the adoption made by end-user, how easily the user can interact with it. Poor feature of usability will definitely result in increasing of cost because of loss in terms of productivity.

Return on investment for the ERP Solutions:Below mentioned are certain function through which an organization can be sure of ROI from ERP system:Companies will definitely get ROI if procedures are properly followed and thereby right practices are being followed.1) At Initial level working out the ERP related myths:The answer to ERPs ROI still remains unclear for those companies who find it difficult in even implementing it because of the reason that they dont follow proper procedures as being mentioned. One of the biggest mistake that companies ever commits is the the following of age-old methods or the traditional approach because of which the ERP system is not able to contribute to the value addition towards the business operations. The difficulty at the initial level while implementing ERP enables the user to think its pretty complex software which in actual is a wrong mindset because of which optimum benefits from ERP cant be derived and Even the ERPROI like ROI calculator will be of no use.2) Proper Implementation and Finance is required:The implementation will be surely smooth if it takes place according to set and specified standards. One important thing to be kept in mind is that there should not be any comprise and controversies on the financial grounds when it comes to ERP. The common blunder that many of the companies make is that they cut and decrease the expenditures with motive of being benefited in monetary terms which however will seriously be affecting the company in the long run unless and until the ERP was meant for the partial implementation. The companies even doesnt feel like to go ERP consultant because those consultancy charge premium price because the tell whether the process is being followed according to the set standards or not the result of which could be very serious.

3) Strict resistance to Changes:Some of the functions resulting in the welfare of the business can be seen but there are some which cant be visible with naked eye which also helps in the productivity and welfare of the business because of which employees starts thinking that ERP isnt worth money for which so large investment has been made secondly they tend not to take the training and development seriously and violate the suggestion and decision which were taken after deliberate planning, which ultimately hampers the functioning of ERP.ERP System Selection Methodology:ERP system selection methodology involves a proper formal process for acquiring an ERP system.Irrespective of size of the company whether its a small company or if its multinational multi-million dollar company the objective of all is to selecting system is to source a software that would provide functionality and cater to the needs of various departments in the organization, also that will be completely accepted by the user, gets the approval of management and most importantly that could provide significant, appropriate ROI to its shareholders. In the mid-80s there was a huge demand as companies has strived of a software that would take care of all departments from Manufacturing; Supply Chain Management; Human Resources; through to Financials with the help of automation resulting in a quicker response to fast changing environment. This led to the creation and development of ERP system. There were number of packages that entered into the market during 1990.Some of them which were known as the upper end of the market were Movex, SAP, IFS. In addition to that there were many meant for medium sized organization like Epicor, Microsoft Navision, Tropos, Sage etc. Many of the packages that were claimed to be merely sold as add-on or extension to the respective ERP system. There are countless number of options which in turn creates the confusion for the companies.Attempting to select an ERP system is further affected by other factors too like there could be system that are discretely meant for manufacturing area where a number of different items make up a final or finished good while there may be others industry suited like food processing which might not be containing the exact ingredients and re-work can be required or there may be by-products associated with it.Last decade we witnessed that companies have become more and more interested in E-Business and E-commerce capability. With all the potential solutions being provided its pretty common that a company adopts an ERP solution that would not best suit the organization. This would further result in very expensive cost involved in implementing the system Thus, it is understood that cost involved in acquiring ERP could be as high as three to five percent the revenue to be gained. Therefore, a Proper selection methodology will enable the delivery of acquired ERP on time, that best compliments and fits the whole organization within the prescribed budget.Incomplete Set of Requirements:At the time of implementing a new ERP system in an organization it wants employees to do their respective jobs differently therefore it is very much requires so as to understand the requirements of the present business process and also to understand the business processes in the future[ Before installing of the new system and after once the system is installed]. One can review the performance and the functionality of the system. Its natural that that requirements of a particular unique business into a pretty great detail.Reliance on Vendor Demos:Vendor for the sake demonstration a particular package follow a very simplest approach so that it can be easily understood by the employees that belongs to non- technical background. A typical demo by the vendor will show the aspect of ordering a product to the cash processes in which a customer orders a desired product that is readily available in the stock. However reality is that most of the customers desires a product of varying nature that would not always be available in the stock.Over-focussing on System CostFinlay and Servant state that the difference of purchase price between different packages is not likely to be the dominant factor. No doubt cost of ERP system is an important element to be taken under consideration company normally does not focus on the other decision making criteria areas involving future proof, functionality, present IT Infrastructure which is underlying, our ecommerce capability as compared to others.Selection BiasIts pretty common that decision for purchasing or acquiring an ERP system is made by single individual or by a single department of the company. In this type of decision the ERP could be excellent to that particular department but might be weak at other functional departments that could land the whole organization in serious trouble.Failure to use Objectives from Professional Services:The reason behind the failing of selection of new system is because less knowledge and skills in the organizations. Consultants with good amount of knowledge and experience can provide proper guidance of which package to go with in the market place. They know which new version are available the even can guide whether a specific requirement will create value to the organization and to employees who working in it. However the professional help will be of no use if a consultant has a contract with certain ERP vendor because then he will be recommending that vendor only so the manager must be very cautious in deciding with which consultant to go from because these consultants charge premium prices for their services to be rendered that could be very costly.Unclear understanding of offering made by ERP vendor:Almost 95% are such cases in which the implementation of new system is out of budget or is not made on time. The reason behind late and out of budget implementation is likely the did not understand what ERP vendor expected them to do or what that ERP vendor offered at the time of signing of the contract. An example would be where vendor told for 7 days for the purpose of data to be migrated into new system. The vendor is responsible for the data migration but expects the company to put that data into a particular folder for smooth importing but and they are also expected to do filter the data to be migrated but the organization doesnt do it which increase the cost because now vendor will be charging more and implementation gets delayed.Proper system selection:Below mentioned are certain approaches that would be addressing blunders made in wrong and poor system selection.1) Structured Approach :The foremost and first while selecting a new system is to adopt a step-by-step approach. Everyone in the organization including stake should be aware of methods for requirement gathering which involves certain activities like invitation for quotations from the vendors, then selecting the potential and best vendor, the format in which vendor will be demonstrating its package and since the stakeholders are also involved the level of co-operation will be very high in the entire process.2) Focused demonstration :While the potential vendor is selected then demo for the package given by the vendor must be pertaining to the operations of the business. However there is huge amount of preparation relating to demo is required by the vendor if that package is specific to a particular business. So it is important that the vendors are treated properly with full support of the organization because there demonstration is the way on which right decision rests.3) Objective Decision Process:Out of so many which ERP to use is a difficult task because later that would be followed by the economic consequences. Two major points should be kept in mind when people are involved in decision making for the selection of a system.a) Firstly the criteria for selection and rating depending upon that between different packages should be proactively decided. The criteria must involving the objective of the people not only from inside the company but from outside too.b) Secondly in not a single case people who have contract or are affiliated with one or the othe systems should be allowed in this manner.4) Full Involvement of all Personnel:Decision taken in case of system selection should be made by the stakeholders which would be requiring Top level participation and leadership. It is requires that every person should be involved in the whole process and they must:a) Involved in decision making phase where project initiation is taking place.b) Help in recognizing and gathering the requirements of business processes.c) Must attend the vendor demonstration with full interest.d) Must be actively participating in the final selection of potential vendor. The implementation phase takes much time as compared to selection phase companies that follow the proper system selection method not only gain the benefit and advantages on the implementation phase but throughout the lifecycle of the ERP application.Issues to Consider Before Implementation of ERP:Before implementing and integrating all the functional areas into one system. Manager must consider certain below mentioned issues that will help in knowing weather ERP is the right choice for the current business or not.a) Fundamental IssuesThe most important issue is the fundamental issues which should be considered at first sight in connection the companys goals and objective. For example do management understands the present operations of the business weather they would be able to implement the new system on time or not. Is management ready and capable of going with the huge change that will be caused in the business operation due to ERP. Do management would be able to make the required changes in the cultural and operational environment that would possibly be resulted after implementation. Does the organization really have the capability in investing on ERP which could be very high.Management should make it a point that ERP is not at all option for those companies that are rapidly and continuously emerging. Secondly ERP is a no go for those organization that deals in the product that are constantly changing or for those companies that require too much of flexibility so as to move on the path of success. If an company is to be merged pretty soon with the another company the ERP might not work effectively due to the reason that companys working environment might change.Sometimes powerful hardware in terms of IT infrastructure is needed to run ERP which a typical mid-size company might lack.People:There are certain issues that are people related must be considered while implementing ERP like The leadership style. There are number of researches that have been laid which clearly states Active participation by Top-level management plays an important role in successive implementation of new system. Secondly if you see various steering committees comprising of senior managers are basically formed to manage and plan IT related initiatives such involvement higher authorities helps in boosting the IT business values. At the time of economic down turn employees with not much training who fights and resists the changes are the ones to become the low, bad performers which hampers the productivity, hence to reduce the chance of resistance skilled and expert personnels must be involved that would guide what are benefits of ERP. ERP installation must be taught to the employees properly that would help in knowing the architecture of ERP better. Project managers at every level should see the the implementation process.

Methods in implementing ERP:ERP support comprises of all the services being rendered by the vendor. Various companies spend plenty of time that can go up-to in years by discussing the usage of ERP. All sort of assessment in depth are made and necessary resources are bought to work on ERP. Exercises being suggested in case restructuring are also carried out. Then comes the most important question that strikes is which implementation strategy to be followed?Various popular strategies are:1) Joint ventures with the Respective Industry:According to this strategy the company is not sticked with the option of implementing the ERP all alone. The company will be able to with the top players in that particular industry. This further ensures that the risk involvement in terms loss will not be high. This sharing enables to interface among different systems based on common platforms. But this mostly this strategy is not followed due to high competition. The other company may have a fear that what if the other company gets on the top.Perhaps there other issue too, the confidential data might get leaked to other company.2) Doing it all alone:Generally this method is followed up till now. There is a degree of high risk associated with it. But if everything is calculated done accordingly then this strategy could act as an golden opportunity which may take the business operation to various heights. The company must opt this opportunity depending upon its financial capability, potential IT infrastructure required and certain similar things. All this would be great for going with this strategy. 3) Full/Partial Implementation:Its been clearly defined that ERP services purely based on the requirements and resources of the organization. There is not much of risk involved in this strategy therefore the company can go with fully feature packed ERP and apply it to whole process of business and hence interacting the entire process and also the people associated with it else the company has other option in which the company can go with ERP only for a particular business function and need not to apply on the entire operations of business, that is why ERP is available in various modules.Successful ERP Implementation:While implementing ERP, organization mostly needs the support of Vendor, Third-party consultancy services.Importing of data which in other words means data migration is the essential activity which shows the success of ERP implementation. Unfortunately the last activity before which production phase occurs is the data migration. Normally data migration does not get much of the attention time limitations.Given below are the steps involved in the data migration resulting in successful implementation of ERP:a) The data which needs to be migrated should be identifiedb) At what time data needs to be migrated must be identified.c) Data templates will be created.d) Deciding on the tools for data migration.e) Archiving the data.

Configuration:Configuration of ERP means showing a balance between how you want the system to work and how the system works for you it starts by deciding the part in terms of module to be installed such as ERP for HR department might not be required by one company but could be essential for the other company.Maintenance and support services:Maintenance and support services involves monitoring and managing of ERP system if some bug exists then proper patch is provided so that loophole can be made to work some ERP packages are such they have online maintenance support so that any upgrade is available it automatically installs it enhancing the capability of the full system.ERP Implementation Plan:The flowchart in figure shows that the activities to be done before the implementation of ERP, at first the managers must be going for the feasibility study to see the current situation of the business process in terms of hardware, software, databases and in-house skills which enable the integration through wherever its required. The organization must set objectives for the improvement and for the proper implementation and must critically see the break-even points and the advantages to be derived from this huge IT investment.Secondly, the educating, recruiting and employing of the end-user is done with in the implementation process.Thirdly, A steering committee will be developed which will be comprising of the various experts from various functional areas that will be responsible for leading the entire project. Then the team will be approaching the system consultants so as to see the how appropriate the ERP implementation will be. The consultants will also suggest which module will be the best for the company.Adequate training to employees and managers can never be underestimated. IT analyst says that managers must get a 15-17% of training on the allocated budget.Different levels of training must be provided to all business employees including managers, users, vendors and customers.A system installation consider various activities relating to configuration of software, hardware to be acquired and testing of software, data stored in the databases will be converted into the required format used within the ERP system and also up-gradation of network is required.Post implementation phase checks to see whether all the objectives are achieved that were designed at the planning phase, and also in this phase only the project team or the steering comity checks if any modification is required for optimum utilization of resources.

ERP to be implemented is a strong commitment involving millions and millions of Rupees. However if being implemented properly by following all the standards the benefits can be countless.A properly consolidated and designed ERP shares the updated information across different functions of the organization which further results in huge amount of cost reduction and increase effectiveness. In order to increase the chance so that user doesnt resist to change all the employees must somehow indulged in process of implementation. The two strategies involving proper education and training helps in decreasing the rate of resistance to change. After the system is established the whole business operation underwent with a huge change with that change organizational structure and jobs being re-defined.

CHAPTER 2: LITERATURE REVIEWElements of Perception Regarding the Implementation of ERP Systems in SMEs.According to the authors Catherine Equey and Emmanuel Fragnire in the year from 1990 to 2003 they have stated and showed the whole overview of the ERP systems and evolution of whole ERP systems after that they have focused and illuminated about the ERP market in detail. Since 2001 there were almost 210 ERP vendors. But there were only five vendors who have captured 80% of the market and they were namely (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft, Peoplesoft and Bann). With the help of this paper they have also did the comparison which has stressed upon the criteria for the selection of appropriate ERP system. They say that ERP systems are bit complex proper allocation of fund towards the training and development is required else ERP implementation would be merely a failure.Any wrong selection of ERP software would cost millions & millions of dollars to a company. According to author almost 1/6 of the software being implemented failed so user must be certain about the set of requirements it should be certain then only the ERP vendor could provide best possible product suited for the concerned. They also say there is a big difference between the SME(small and medium enterprises) and large companies. The difference basically constitutes to the staffing of the people the which will be performing the selection process because of the fact that large organization will employ more people for selection and more time and too in depth and SMEs on other hand goes for the modules that are less complex and which does not include much of the investment in other words which less expensive. Therefore there is a strong correlation between Companies size and What ERP to product.

Conclusion:The paper mainly focuses on selection criteria for adopting ERP between large enterprises and SMEs and the perception level regarding ERP. If you consider SMEs the found out that there satisfaction level after implementing ERP was average because they have limited number of staff which in depth go that which ERP would be best complimented to the business operationsMost importantly the investment incurred in acquiring the ERP by SMEs is not much so the bought ERP package doesnt offer much features for instance some ERP shows clear cut position of the business whether its moving in the right direction or not with help of charts and graphs enabling quick response to the environmental change which SMEs might lack.

2) Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP) and user performance: Ahed Abugabah Griffith Business School Griffith University , Nathan Brisbane, AustraliaAccording to authors its been said that almost 70% to 80% fails due to employees resistance to change which involves business process re-engineering because it requires proper training and development which employee think that will be of not much help, secondly it requires efforts which due to lazy nature of Human-beings halts the functions and ultimately the objective of ERP fails (Mehlinger 2006).If you see there is a fact that there is a strong relation between huge investment would lead to high degree of satisfaction level being gained by the ERP(Al-Mashari 2003, Jawahar 2002)While if you see there are number of studies being conducted previously many of such studies have ignored user-level and their aspects which makes this pretty unclear. Analyzing the users performance will clearly show the complexity in the relationship between user and ERP on the fact that users are the core element which will create value by interacting with ERP in the existing business. (Kositanurit et al. 2006; Abugabah and Sanzogni 2009)Number of studies has been conducted which states that user aspects involving: user environment, user characteristics, user training are the most important factors for knowing and studying the ERP systems (Baroudi and Davis 1986; Mandal and Gunasekaran 2002; Yusuf et al. 2004; Zhang et al. 2005).Its a fact that an individuals performance contributes and an essential indicator to the organizations performance according to the study user performance is an important factor in determining the organizational performance (Kositanurit et al. 2006).

Conclusion:In short not a single previous study has highlighted the value and the importance of the relationship between the ERP system and users performance more importantly the advantages and benefits being derived from ERP system need a in-depth evaluation, many of the present and existing evaluating ERP focused studies considering ht implementation issues and the technical issues do not completely provides the full detail and explanation about the ERP effects. They do not give the full idea of working relationship of ERP system with a specific user setting. Thus the evaluation of ERPs effect in response to users performance is still a problem that needs to be corrected.

3) Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System Implementation: A case for User participation: Samwel Matendela and Patrick OgaobERP implementation system is a very complex IT-related social phenomenon which requires large body of knowledge (Sarker and Lee). Amoako-Gyampah and also it requires a huge investment in terms of expenditures, lengthy periods, and organizational commitment. There are various hurdles which makes ERP implementation a challenging task. Some of these Hurdles that have been stated in literature include technical issues and also issues in the form of people (Botta-Genoulaz)argue that many of the organizations are fully affected by the technical Issues in ERP system implementations due to scarce resources and limited deadlines.Companies often say that since ERP is not customized at a larger level which arises instability and conflicts among various user groups. Because of rigid and complex nature of these ERP systems, there have been reports that states number of ERP project implementation does not succeed at initial level. There are various possible explanations for these type of failures. The failures can thus broadly be classified into:1) Human/organizational reasons such as lack of leadership that was promised.2) Technical reasons including challenges or difficulties that faced from software customization and testing 3) Economic reasons such as lack of economic planning and justification. 4) Human factors are critical to the success of ERP projects. These human factors include the role that users play in the process of implementing these systems. Even with this fact, few studies have attempted to examine the role of these human factors and how they affect the ERP implementation.4) MEASURING USERSATISFACTIONAND PERCEIVED USEFULNESS IN THE ERP CONTEXTMoshe ZviranNormally, ERP promised easy integrating of all the organizations in the business processes, many problems occur in the implementation stage and two successful indicator 1) user satisfaction, 2) perceived usefulness. There is a strong correlation between user satisfaction and perceived usefulness showing that its a useful factor affecting the users satisfaction, but the hypothesis under this study revealed there is no supporting evidence which shows there is, no positive relationship between user satisfaction, perceived usefulness and organizational characteristics. Organizational characteristics includes department to which a user belongs and user characteristics includes age, gender and computing experience.Since ages the principle point has been in regard to user satisfaction and system usage. The gain inpopularity of user satisfaction as a measure of IS success. May be attributed to the absence of a comprehensiveagreed-upon instrument and the intuitive connectionto IS success. since, intuitively, if users are dissatisfied with an IS, it is difficult to consider it a success.Various studies have found significant differences between different user groups in terms of user satisfaction and also in terms of perceived usefulness, Users with more formal knowledge tends to use more hardware, computers and have more user satisfaction also have more perceived usefulness. Then coming to age, old users tend to have less information system satisfaction, older user perceives system more useful. When it is Gender, difference in computing attitude can come

CHAPTER 3:3.1 Research Problem In India still there is no culture of ERP what we have in foreign because somewhat and somewhere productivity suffers. People got lack of knowledge about ERP or they dont have proper allocation of funds required for investment because of which SMEs suffers, there had been many cases in which after successful establishment of the system still ERP purpose fails because employee finds it too complex just because of which I undertook this research for knowing what users view are regarding workload, efficiency and the satisfaction level which they derive after implementing ERP solution.

3.2 RESEARCH METHODResearchincludes "Any creative work that is undertaken on a systematic basis in so as to increase the stock of knowledge, including knowledge of human, culture and society, and the use of this stock of knowledge would be to devise new applications. It is used to develop or confirm facts, reconfirm the results of previous work and studies that have been undertaken so as to solve new or existing problems,3.2.1 Research ObjectivesThe objectives for carrying out this study were:1) To know the perception of people regarding ERP after implementing it.2) To know the level of workload after ERP implementation.3.2.2 Research DesignWith the help of Descriptive quantitative study the research was carried out. With the help of Descriptive research characteristics of population or phenomenon are studied it does not involve in answering the questions like How/When/Why the certain characteristics occurred.

3.2.3 Sampling Design A sample design is nothing but it shows various aspects of how the samples that would be included in our study will be selected and specified.Sampling unitA single section that is to be selected to research and gather some statistics of the whole. For example when a group of college students have to be studied then a single student can be called a sampling unit. For conducting my research sampling unit has been gathered from Yamaha Company, Greater Noida.Sample Size :In practice, thesample-size isused in a study which is determined based on the expense of data collection, and the need to have sufficient statistical power. For my research I have 31 as my sample size.Sampling MethodThe sampling technique used in this study was Judgmental sampling. It is a non-probability sampling technique. Judgmental sampling is a type of convenience sampling in which a researcher selects sample members to conform to some criterions. In this study different companies working in different verticals were selected.

3.2.4 Data CollectionThe data collection begins after a particular research problem has been defined and research design has been made. The researcher must keep in mind two types of data while deciding about the method of data collection. These two types of data are as follows:(i) Primary Data(ii) Secondary Data(i)Primary data: The primary data are those data which are collected for the very first time and are 100% original. Here data is gathered from interview-cum structured questionnaires that were used as a source for primary data, which includes in-depth interview with the respondents. This study was thus conducted with the help of structured questionnaire which had closed questions.(ii) Secondary Data : Secondary data comprises of data that has been already collected by someone else and has already been passed through statistical process. The researcher must decide which type of data he would be using for his study and accordingly the researcher should select one or the other method of data collection. For my research secondary data were collected from:BooksJournalsNewspapersCompany DatabaseWebsites.Data Analysis Tools:The researched data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel with the help of various charts including pie-charts and bar-graphs.

3.3 Scope and Rationale of the studyThe main purpose of this study was to check the perception level of users regarding ERP software after implementing it in companies located in Delhi-NCR region. While conducting research I faced difficulties like some of the companies refused to give information but somehow they provided me details that were adequate in completing my research and I was able to complete my research.

CHAPTER 4: DATA ANALYSIS 1) After implementing ERP what do you think about the workload?(1= Very low, 2= Low, 3= Moderate, 4= High, 5= Very High).

CHAPTER 5: CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS:CONCLUSION:These chapters briefs about the conclusion of the study being conducted in the previous chapters. The study was indeed carried out in order to cover the various aspects of the ERP software and basically to check the perception of the user regarding the perception of ERP after implementing it. The study also checks ERP on certain parameters being mentioned in the study and also whether the workload has improved or not after the ERP system is established.Nevertheless ERP has its own advantages the benefits contributed to organizations can be countless and can take any organization towards achievements up to a very great level.Through this study it was that ERP indeed is very effective and after of offering cross-organizational capabilities it helps in reducing the workload but when the system is established it results massive change in the form of business process restructuring and human beings by nature has the habit of resisting change they dont cooperate they dont give due attention training and development required for effective working and as result whole motive behind ERP system fails.

Recommendation:In this ERA of fast working and dynamically changing environment ERP is a must solution tool which will help the organization to accomplish their tasks with the help of effective automation. As being already said the benefits could be countless like time saving, optimum utilization etc ERP is very much require but an organization must keep in mind certain facts going for this system.Firstly ERP system require a high investment if the companys financial limits allow it the company must go with it but make sure ERP investment could be as high as 2-3% of the total revenue and other side there should be no comprise with the Fund allocated with the ERP, Proper training and education must be taught so that people does not resist to the change, the higher authority must check all the employees must participate in the ERP implementation activity and must attend the vendor demos seriously.Secondly Time should be kept in mind before establishing ERP system like if your business is at boom and you decide for going to ERP at this point of time you might end up in losing your business because the change caused takes some time so that people could get used to it.And ERP is strongly good for big companies because its been already stated in the study that ERP and size of the company have strong correlation.
