The Swire group is a multinational, multi-disciplined commercial group, with its principal areas of
operations in the Asia Pacific region and centred on the Greater China area, where the name 太古 or Taikoo,
meaning “Great and Ancient”, is a household name. The group’s business activities can be grouped into
five categories: Property, Aviation, Beverages & Food Chain, Marine Services and Trading & Industrial.
Within Asia, Swire’s activities principally come under the group’s publicly quoted arm, Swire Pacific Ltd.
Elsewhere in the world, businesses are held by parent company, John Swire & Sons Ltd.
Swire first opened an office in Shanghai in 1866 and began trading in tea and silk and British imports of
cotton and woollen ‘piece goods’. Today, Swire’s interests on the Mainland range from property investment
and aircraft engineering to cold storage and retailing. Swire subsidiaries are partners to some of the
Mainland’s largest and most successful companies, including Sino-Ocean Land Holdings, the CITIC Group,
Air China, COFCO and the Guangdong Foodstuffs Import and Export (Group) Corporation. Other
international partners in Mainland China include The Coca-Cola Company, The Boeing Company, Akzo
Nobel and The Campbell Soup Company.

Air China Cargo• Cargo joint venture between Air China and
Cathay Pacific Airways, based in Shanghai to capture business opportunities out of the Yangtze River Delta region.
• Cathay Pacific owns an equity interest (25%) and an economic interest (24%).
HAECO Group• One of the world’s leading aircraft engineering and
maintenance providers, offering a comprehensive range of airframe, cabin, component and engine services through its 17 subsidiary and affiliated companies (11 of which are in Mainland China).
• HAECO is listed on The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited.
• HAECO Xiamen operates one of the largest maintenance facilities in Asia at Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. It is home to the Group’s private jet Cabin Completion Centre – Asia’s first and only facility to be approved by Airbus and licensed by Boeing. It is also one of the world’s most experienced passenger-to-freighter conversion centres.

Swire Beverages• A strategic partner of The Coca-Cola Company
and one of the two Coca-Cola bottlers in Mainland China.
• 2016 sales volume in Mainland China was 820 million unit cases, covering a franchise population of around 420 million people.
• In 2017, Swire Beverages has significantly increased its Coca-Cola franchise territories and its subsidiaries now operate 18 plants across 11 provinces and Shanghai Municipality in Mainland China.

Swire Foods Trading
• Distributes food products under the “Taikoo” brand and other brands in Mainland China.
• An exclusive distributor of Mövenpick ice-cream products in Mainland China.
Swire MP Foods
• A 60:40 joint venture formed by Swire Foods Holdings and Mövenpick Foods Licensing Limited.
• Markets premium-quality coffee under the Mövenpick brand through retail and food service channels in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
Chongqing New Qinyuan Bakery
• A leading bakery chain in southwest China, with over 550 stores in Chongqing, Guiyang and Chengdu. Swire Foods wholly owns this company.
Taikoo Sugar
• Owns and operates three sugar packaging plants in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Chengdu and has a distribution network spanning 123 cities in Mainland China. Packages and sells sugar and tea in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
• In partnership with Sumitomo Corporation and TS Corporation is building a sugar refinery in Foshan, Guangdong. The refinery will start operating in the second quarter of 2017.

James Finlay• Founded in 1750, Finlays is a leading international
supplier of tea, coffee and natural ingredients for the global beverage industry.
• Operates tea sourcing and supply offices in Xiamen and Guizhou.
• Owns a 40% shareholding in Damin Foodstuff (Zhangzhou).

Damin Foodstuff (Zhangzhou)
• The world’s leading manufacturer and supplier of tea and other natural plant extracts. Produces instant tea powders, tea concentrates and a variety of natural extracts, supplying China’s leading domestic brands, as well as a large export portfolio of international customers.
• In 2016, Damin manufactured and supplied in excess of 28,000 tonnes of liquids and powders, as both ingredients and finished solutions, to its global customer base.
• In 2016, Finlays in Mainland China and Damin together sourced in excess of 25,000 tonnes of tea for both domestic and international markets.

Marine Services
The China Navigation Company (CNCo)• Established in 1872 to operate paddle steamers
on the Yangtze River. Operates a fleet of 89 container, multipurpose and bulk carrier vessels to service its global trades.
• The company completed 37 newbuildings in Mainland China in 2016. Another three new vessels have been purchased and will be delivered in 2017.

manufactures and distributes decorative paints, primarily under the Dulux brand.
