INTRODUCTION

BELSHINA JSC is one of the largest enterprises in Europe, based in the Republic of Belarus, producing all range of tyres, including OTR (off-the-road) tyres.

Belshina OTR tyres are designed and produced to meet the accepted international standards: Tyre and Rim Association (TRA) in the USA and European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization (ETRTO) in Europe.

BELSHINA has prepared this manual to provide detailed information pertaining to OTR tyres.This Manual contains construction, technical specification, selection, maintenance and other important aspects.

If a tyre is to be used for a purpose other than that for which it is originally intended, please consult the BELSHINA JSC for advice.

BIAS-PLY TYRE – in such tyres carcass and breaker cord threads in adjoining layers intersect and have in the middle part of tread tilt angles ranging from 45° to 60°. Carcass and breaker cord threads are made of nylon.

RADIAL – in such tyres cord in the casing ply is arranged on the meridian at the angle close to 0°. The casing ply and belt are made of steel cord.

*Ply rating. Identifies different versions (load capacity/inflation pressure) of tyres having the same size designation. With the same ply rating, the actual number of plies can be different depending on the cord strength.

**Star rating. Symbols used to identify different versions (load capacity/inflation pressure) of earthmoving equipment tyres in radial construction ( ). Relationship between ply ratings of bias tyres and strength index of radial tyres is indicated in Table 1.

Using a forklift to lift a tyre:

- tyre placed on the forks (flat or vertically),- do not pass forks through the center of the tyre,- can use a round boom attachment (diameter more than 150 mm).

THE BEAD IS A SENSITIVE PART OF THE TYRE, IF ANY DAMAGES DURING HANDLING, THIS MAY LEAD TO

PREMATURE SCRAPPING OF THE TYRE.

Lifting tyres by crane:

- use soft sling (nylon or rubber) with a minimum width of 140 mm - do not use rope sling- do not use metal slings, chains, hooks

STORAGE OF TYRES

The storage of tyres requires particular care. If tyres are not stored properly, not only will there be deterioration in their appearance, there may be a loss in performance and compound integrity.

THE RUBBER IS SUBJECT TO

NATURAL AGEING

Indoor storage of tyres is preferable.

Store tyres in an area that is clean, cool, dark, and well ventilated, but with a minimum of circulating air. Avoid areas that are wet, humid, oily, greasy, or in direct sunlight (protect by opaque sheets).

SEMI-OUTDOOR STORAGE

Storage area should be level, well drained. Care should be taken to avoid contact with petroleum based substances: oils, fuels and asphalt.

TYRES COVER BY OPAQUE SHEETS

Maximum storage period outdoors is 4 months

Tyres shall be stored in vertical (on tread) or sloping (on one shoulder) position.In case of long-term storage, strongly recommend to change a position of tyre to prevent irreversible deflection.

Storage of tubes, flaps and O-rings

- Tubes shall be stored inside tyres and inflated to their inside dimensions or slightly inflated tubes can be stored on the hangers. Tubes can be stored stacked or folded on the pallets, period of storage in this case being not exceeding 3 months;- Flaps must be stored flat on shelves, protected from dust and moisture.- Flaps shall be stored hanged on special brackets or tied up on shelves.- O-rings. Store them away from the light. Protect them from any risk of being damaged.

TYRES ARE COMBUSTIBLE. IT'S A SUBJECT TO REGULATIONS OF THEIR STORAGE AND

PROTECTION AGAINST FIRE.

PROCEDURE OF MOUNTING:

1) Machine is not loaded, parked horizontally on clean area, parking brake engaged and motor turned off. 2) Before mounting inspect each of the parts of the assembly to be mounted:- tyre has no abnormal distortions, no visible or potential damage- check all components of the rim that they are in a good condition (no distortions, cracks).

3) Lubricate the beads, rim seat, bead seat band. Use special mounting paste. 4) Place all the wheel components in position and visually check that they are correctly assembled.5) Inflate tyre to 70-80 kPa (10-11 psi) and make sure that tyre is assembled properly on rim.

1) Before carrying out any work on a tyre, it must be deflated.2) When carrying out work on dual mounted tyres (deflate both tyres).3) Start by washing the tyre.4) Use the recommended equipment and tools. 5) Dismantle the tyre from the rim.6) Check each component of the rim before carrying out any necessary repairs.

TYRE OPERATION CONDITIONS

EFFICIENT OPERATION OF TYRES INCLUDES:

• climate;• load;• speed;• road conditions; • maintenance of tyres (inflation pressure, matching of tyres and etc.);• TKPH; • maintenance of trucks.

CLIMATEExtreme high or low temperature affect to tyre life. Before using a tyre in such conditions, consult with Belshina specialist to choose the proper tyre with sufficient compound.

LOADBelshina strongly recommends to follow specification of the truck and tyres about load. Overloading should be avoided. Otherwise, the tyre life will be short as well as any tyre failures can be caused by such operation. For the best tyre performance, the maximum recommended load should not be exceeded. If the load exceeds the specified capacity of the tyre, need to choose a tyre with proper load capacity or consult with Belshina specialist to provide some recommendation based on specific operation.

The excavator operator is responsible for proper load of vehicle and distribution of weight.Belshina recommends to conduct a weight study regularly. Exceeding of the load can be caused by different factors such as empty vehicle weight can be exceeded the manufacturer's specified weight, different density of materials, modification of the truck. In case of excess load (over the standard value from tyre specification), cold inflation pressure must be increased to compensate higher load. For each 1% increase in load, the inflation pressure must be increased by 2%. Such operation is subject for approval, please refer to Belshina specialist.

Extra heat generation as well as short tyre life can be caused by improper distribution of weight.

SPEEDSpeed of the vehicle is the responsibility of the driver. Speed limit must be kept within specification of the vehicle as well as tyre specification.Different types of vehicles are subject to the next speed limitation

ROAD CONDITIONSThe proper maintenance of roads helps to achieve maximum performance of tyres:-- clean and level the technological roads, loading and dumping areas regularly; - the crushed stone or gravel which will be put on the roads must be not larger than 50 mm in diameter to avoid any damages of tyres; - remove any spillages of rocks as soon as possible to avoid any damages of tyres. - spray the road with water at suitable intervals to prevent dust from rising and reducing the visibility.- avoid small S-curves. They are particularly dangerous. The minimum radius of curves should be 15 meters.- from a tyre life perspective curves should be as large as possible - to prevent critical tyre lateral forces on turns with the minimum curve radius (R), maximum speed (V) shall not exceed the speed values specified in table:

Premature tyre damage such as heat separation can be caused by excessive speed.

- ideal grades of roads are 5-6%, the maximum grade of 10% is allowed on small distance of 100 meters.

If it's impossible to provide a sufficient road width, provide passing places at various points along the road.- Maximum hauling distance (one way) for dump trucks shall not exceed 5 km.

MAINTENANCE OF TYRES

Inflation pressureGood pressure control is the foundation on which all other tyre management is built.If pressure control is not proper, tyre life will be lost through increased damages caused by heat separations and uneven rapid wear.Figure shows an effect that inflation pressure deviation has on the average tyre life for the operation.

Inflating a tyre requires to use the correct equipment:- compressor (flow rate at 174 psi - 12 bar),- inflation hose: at least 6 meters,- pressure gauges must be regularly checked and reset (every year).

For safety reasons stand facing the tread so that, if the tyre bursts, you will not be in the path of the blast of air and any metal wheel parts that may be ejected.

There are two definitions - "cold" and "hot" pressure of tyres.

Cold pressure - pressure in a tyre when temperature of tyre equals to ambient temperature.

Hot pressure. Pressure build-up is a normal process in an operation of tyre. The heat build-up generated by tyre flex increases the temperature of the body of the tyre; it also increases the temperature of the air in tyre’s inflation chamber. As the temperature of the air increases, so does its pressure.

During operation hot pressure in a tyre can be increased up to 20% for bias-ply or 15% for radial which is allowed by the tyre design.

If the pressure of a tyre increases excessively (more than 20% (radial) and 25 % (bias-ply) above its cold inflation pressure this is indicative that the tyre is approaching its critical reversion temperature (at which the rubber suffers a significant loss of strength, and bonding between tyre components starts to fail). For such situation, the dump truck should be moved to a shorter hauling distance, or parked until the tyre has cooled down sufficiently to allow it to return to service.

Do not bleed air from the “hot” tyre adjusting its internal pressure. Such method reducing the inflation pressure will immediately amplify tyre flex and increase the rate of heat build-up in the tyre – pushing tyre temperature closer to (or through) the reversion temperature. This will significantly reduce the potential life of the tyre.

TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system) helps to maximize tyre life and casing durability by controlling the pressure and temperature, by all of these systems need to be properly installed and maintained to deliver the benefits they provide. While TPMS may reduce tyre labour, it's still necessary to inspect tyres to ensure they are serviceable, properly inflated, and the systems are working correctly.

The valve must be always completed with cap. Such small thing as a valve cap is quite cheap but its influence essential. Dust and mud are going inside and blocking the valve and may effect to leakage of valve reducing inflation pressure.

AMBIENT TEMPERATURE AT THE TIME OF INFLATION LOWER THAN THE REFERENCE TEMPERATURE• Inflation carried out in a heated workshopThe machine will work in colder ambient air: therefore the inflation pressure must be higher than the reference pressure.• Procedure for correcting inflation pressuresTo use the below table, follow the steps:1 - Calculate the difference in temperature between the workshop and the outside environment (workshop temperature – external temperature).2 - In the top line, find the nominal value that is closest to thecalculated temperature difference.3 - In the left column, select the recommended pressure.4 - The point at which the selected line and column intersect gives you the pressure to which the tyre must be inflated.

If ambient temperature higher than 25°C, the tyre is inflated to the recommended pressure. When the temperature falls, the pressure will fall below the recommended pressure.

Proper matching of dual tyresDual tyre fitment on the rear axle of dump truck must be as similar as possible in terms of size, design and degree of wear. Otherwise, the one with the larger diameter will carry most of the load and will be prone to damage and wear.

DO NOT MIX RADIAL AND BIAS-PLY TYRES IN DUAL TYRE FITMENT

When replacing tyres with new ones on dump trucks, select the tyres by their outside diameter. Differences in tyre sizes shall not exceed the values specified in table:

DO NOT INSTALL TYRES OF DIFFERENT DESIGN ON THE FRONT AXLE

Please make sure the inflation pressure of dual tyres doesn't exceed 3% difference in operation.

In case of uneven tread wear, we recommend to rotate the inner and outer tyres of a dual tyre fitment, before the difference in wear between the two edges of the tyre becomes too pronounced, evens out the wear profile of both tyres.

Tyre rotation

Tyre rotation is recommended in case of technical necessity which is defined by the technical staff.The reasons for tyre rotation can be as follows:- tyre damaging and necessity of correct selection of dual tyres;- irregular wear of the tread pattern;

Transit of dump trucks to new jobsites (continuous travel)

The following requirements shall be met:- the dump truck must be empty;- inflation pressure must be increased by 12-14% with a reference to the standard value;- maximum travel speed shall not exceed 50 km/h;- do not adjust inflation pressure by "bleeding" tyres during transportation;- cool down tyres every 80 km or 2 hours of driving, whichever comes first, by stopping the dump truck for 30 minutes. During stop check pressure, when it increases excessively (more than 20% (radial) and 25 % (bias-ply) above its cold inflation pressure, the vehicle should be stopped for an 1 (one) hour;- stop dump truck for an 1 (one) hour cooling period after 4 hours traveling.

TKPH

A very important value for determination of tyre performance is the TKPH (Ton-Kilometer-Per-Hour) value. For an accurate assessment of TKPH it is necessary to have the following information: • round trip hauling distance (km);• shift duration (hrs);• cycle time (hrs);• load per tyre (kg).

The TKPH raiting data is presented at ambient temperature of 38°C.

TKPH is determined using the following formula:TKPH = Q x V

where Q - load per tyre, kg;V - average operational speed, km/h.

where L – hauling distance (one way), km;n – number of cycles; t - total hours of operation (shift).

At various temperatures the TKPH value should be revised based on the following formula:

- For tyres with section width doesn't exceed 27 inches, K=0.5- For tyres with section width exceeded 30, K=0.4

If temperature less than 15°C, TKPH value shall be taken as for temperature equals 15°C. When the maximum speed exceeds 50 km/h on the loaded conditions, the following formula is used:

INSPECTION OF TYRES ON THE VEHICLES

This inspection must be carried out in accordance with the safety.

All technicians carrying out vehicle inspections must wear the following personal protection equipment:- a helmet;- protective glasses;- a vest or safety jacket with reflective strips;- gloves;- safety boots

WHATEVER TYPE OF INSPECTION IS TO BE CARRIED OUT, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO WORK AROUND A VEHICLE THAT IS EMPTY, ENGINE OFF AND THE PARKING BRAKES ENGAGED.

When the inspection of the tyres carried out on big machines (used in mines and quarries), the technician has to work outside the operator’s vision. For this reason it is essential to use a team of two technicians:• the technician carries out the examination;• the coordinator stands in front of the vehicle all the time, to inform the operator when the vehicle needs to be moved.When the inspection has been completed, both technicians stand together on the left of the vehicle (cab side). The coordinator can then inform the driver that the vehicle is ready to leave.

The following equipment is required for inspecting a tyre:- flashlight;- tyre marking crayon;- measuring tape;- tread depth gauge;- pressure gauge;- combination pliers;- screw driver for inspecting large tyres.

Inspection of tyres:

- Inspect the outer sidewall and take a note of serial number.- Check the pressure- Check the tread depth, on the inner and outer shoulders of the tyre.- Look at the tread, its appearance, whether or not the wear is even and check of any damage that may reach the crown plies. - Inspect the inner sidewall.

Repairing a tyre must be taken by professionals.

The type of damage, its position on the tyre and its proximity to other damage will determine the feasibility of carrying out a repair.

Repair shall not be carried out for the tyres:

- with more than two through punctures including those previously repaired;- with damages located at distance less than 400 mm from the bead heel;- with broken or destructed bead;- suffered long-term exposure to oil products or other substances causing rubber swelling;- with circumferential destruction of inner liner;- with evident signs of high rubber ageing.

WARRANTY POLICY

1.Warranty hours (kilometers) are subject for approval and can be issued for customer based on specific size/model and concerning operation conditions. Every tyre shall be free of defects in materials or workmanship under technical-normative legal documents imposed in the Republic of Belarus.

2.Operating performance of the tyres is guaranteed till limiting wear of the tread pattern, corresponding to the height of tyre’s limiting wear indicator, provided the Buyer strictly fulfills the following operating requirements :- tyre operation conditions should correspond to "Maintenance guide of OTR tyres" considering parameters and modes stated in technical specifications on these tyres;- tyre maximum speed, load, TKPH, pressure and hauling distance should not exceeded indicated values in "Maintenance guide of OTR tyres".- road characteristic (width, gradients, turning radiuses etc.) should correspond to "Maintenance guide of OTR tyres".

3.The Warranty does not cover the tyres failed as a result of damage or improper operation with the following defects:

- mechanical damages or cuts (including subsequent separation);- uneven wear-out caused by wrong adjustment of machine elements and defects like but not limited to misalignment, wheel imbalance, defective brakes or shock absorbers, improper inflation, overloading, use of tyre chains or non-approved rims, running flat;- uneven wear-out or failure caused by excessive or insufficient internal pressure in tyre;- failure caused by exceeding tyre maximum load;- failure caused by exceeding tyre TKPH;- failure caused by aggressive materials influence (oil, lubricant, gasoline);- failure caused by rim defects;- failure through containment caused by bead deformation or damage through non-execution of the rules of the tyre loading-unloading , storage or mounting-dismantling;- tyre damages through accident, collisions, fire etc;- willful damage or abuse

4. The Manufacturer reserves the right to inspect operating conditions and the failed tyre(s) at any time. The final decision whether or not the tyre(s) is (are) defective and whether or not such defect(s) is (are) attributable to Manufacturer’s fault shall be made by the authorized representatives of Manufacturer and/or Branch House and the Buyer. All decisions must be stated in written. The cost of mounting or dismounting and any other service charges are payable by the Buyer. If both sides are not able to examine the failed tyre(s), the tyre(s) is (are) not covered by the warranty.If the tyre(s) fails due to proven Manufacturer’s fault, the Manufacture shall compensate the Buyer.Compensation is reimbursed to the Buyer either by tyres or money at Manufacture’s discretion. Compensation in tyres is calculated by the following formula: Compensation = (W-WA)/W Where, W – warranty hours (kilometers), WA – actual hours (kilometers).

5.Manufacturer’s obligations shall be limited to the contract price of new Tyres or comparable Tyres if the Tyres purchased are no longer produced. All obligations or liabilities for incidental or consequential damage shall be hereby excluded.Quality claims, if any, must be lodged with Branch House strictly in writing.

THE WARRANTY APPLIES TO OTR TYRES FOR THE PERIOD OF 5(FIVE) YEARS SINCE THE TYRE PRODUCTION DATE
