10 THE NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR Tuesday, 19 August, 2008
During his inspection tour of ShwepyithaIndustrial Zone in Shwepyitha Township of YangonDivision on 5 July, Prime Minister General TheinSein gave instructions that the industrialists are tostrive for development of firm agro-based industrialwork for the economic growth of the State. Priority isbeing given to emergence of national industrialists, and industrial zones have also been established forindustrial development. By opening technologicaluniversities, the State is making efforts for producingthe needed technocrats in the industrial sector. Inaddition, the industrialists, are to re-double theirefforts for keeping abreast of the latest industrialdevelopments. It is necessary to produce high-qualityand fair-priced items for domestic and global markets.
Nowadays, the government is renderingnecessary assistance for ensuring equitabledevelopment of the industrial sector of the State andindustrial zones established for improvement of theprivate industrial sector.
The government gathered the private-ownedindustries that had scattered in various regions of thenation by establishing industrial zones in the suitableregions. So far, a total of 19 industrial zones havebeen set up throughout the nation. Four industrialzones, namely Yangon East District Industrial Zone,Yangon South District Industrial Zone, YangonWest District Industrial Zone and Yangon NorthDistrict Industrial Zone were founded in YangonDivision.
Yangon East District Industrial Zone compriseseconomic development zones and industrial zones inSouth Okkalapa, Dagon Myothit (Seikkan), DagonMyothit (South), Dagon Myothit (North), DagonMyothit (East) and North Okkapala townships.Likewise, an industrial zone was set up in ThakaytaTownship.
Thakayta Industrial Zone is located not farfrom Ayeyawun Road near Thuwunna Bridge. Atotal of 190 industrial plots were allotted on 200 acresof land. Three State-owned factories and 130 private-owned factories are in operation on the industrialland. These factories are manufacturing personal and

household goods, raw materials, electrical andelectronic equipment and automobiles for industrialand transport purpose.
Especially, the factories are manufacturingpopular export products for foreign markets, meetinginternational standards. Similarly, import-substitutequality consumer products are being manufactured tocustomer satisfaction.
Manufacturing of trucks is one of the import-substitute industries. Automobile assemblingindustries, namely Nay Min Myanmar, Swan Htet,Sein Pan Khaing, Aung Naing Thu, Win Star and Myoare manufacturing quality vehicles and they have firmmarket shares in the local market.
The import-substitute automobile manufacturingindustries in Thakayta Industrial Zone assembled about200 jeeps and over 2000 light trucks in 2007-2008financial year.
“Myo Automobile Industry manufactures theautomobiles meeting set standards and normsprescribed by the Myanmar Industrial DevelopmentWork Committee, and the products are made withhigh quality and sold at reasonable price for the
buyers,” said Managing Director U Myo Thant ofMyo Automobile Industry at No 129 on MyanandaRoad in Thakayta Industrial Zone.
Myo Automobile Industry is manufacturingtwo types of jeeps namely MBJ-01 and MBJ-02 andlight trucks. Quality materials are used in fittingframes and body of the vehicles installed with 2C/3Cengines. Especially, Myo Jeeps (MBJ-02) areconstructed through structure system of Hilux forconvenience in driving on any ronds in the country.
The jeeps have three doors for comfortableuse. In addition, the jeeps are set up with the hardroof. As the cars are fitted with iron roof, it will bebetter than other types. The iron roofs prevent thepossible dangers and contribute to safety of the users.
Managing Director U Myo Thant made furtherclarifications that engine and its related parts aresystematically fitted at the vehicles to enable theusers to enjoy comfortable and safe riding.
It can be witnessed that the quality of products, manufactured by industrialists at industrial zonesthat had been set up for over one decade, is higher. Moreover, priority is being given to manufacturingof import-substitute products. Hence, they have theopportunities to supply the products in accord withdemands of the market, and their industries haveachieved development.

“The process of UNMIK reconfiguration has begun...without consent of allinterested parties and without explicit approval by the UN Security Council,” VukJeremic was quoted by Beta news agency as saying. “We think that this is a bigmistake.” UNMIK and the European Union mission EULEX are due to sign amemorandum of understanding on Monday on a plan which has been opposed bySerbia and Russia and split the Security Council. A 2,200-member EU police missionis waiting to deploy in Kosovo.
Kosovo, long a province of Serbia, was placed under UN administration in 1999after NATO bombing drove out Serb forces accused of mass killings of civilians ina two-year war against separatist guerillas. The ethnic Albanian majority of Kosovodeclared independence in February. Many Western countries recognized it, butSerbia and its big-power ally Russia declared the move illegal.

DAR ES SALAAM, 18 Aug— The decrease of rainfallalong the eastern seaboardof Africa is now linkedwith the warming-up ofthe nearby Indian Oceanas a study conducted bythe American space centrehas suggested.
The study donethrough computer modelsand observations for morethan half a century hasconcluded that rainfall ineastern Africa during theannual rainy season haddeclined by 15 percentsince the 1980s.
Statistical analysesshowed that the decline ofrainfall was due toirregularities in thetransport of moisturebetween the ocean andland. The study done by
the Goddard Space FlightCentre under NASA hasfound that declines inrainfall had been postedin such eastern seaboardAfrican countries asEthiopia, Malawi, Kenya,Tanzania, Zambia andZimbabwe, according toreports received here onMonday.
The rainfall declineover land was linked torainfall and temperatureincreases over the ocean, the study said.
”We can be quitecertain that the decline inrainfall has beensubstantial and willcontinue to be,” said co-researcher Chris Funk,”This 15-percent decreaseevery 20-25 years is likelyto continue.” —Internet
