Reflections on this project

Although I have used Follett Library Resources Titlewave feature before I truly believe that I used this tool more efficiently this time. I wish that I could place this order and donate the

materials to my formal school,Valerie Elementary. In the past I would based my order largely on personal reviews, teacher recommendations, and student requests. Now I that I know more about collection development I see where I fell short of providing quality peer reviewed materials. I am glad that I chose Primary Science as my focused subject matter. The 500’s and 600’s were an embarrassment. While at Valerie I attempted to enhance the Earth Science, Physical Science and Life Science area. I truly enjoyed spending 1,500 on

books, kits, magazines, and puppets. It made a difference using Titlewave’s Ohio Standards lists, Titlewave’s search tool where I used key words such as Earth Science etc. In the search

tool box I utilized the review box by selecting on average 2 reviews. Sometimes I highlighted specific review sources such as Booklist. Because Booklist only publishes

positive reviews I felt very comfortable ordering their suggestions. I decided to order science kits from ETA Cuisenaire. I enjoyed looking through their paper catalog and then going to their website to place a pretend order. Their website was user friendly and allowed me to

make a print-out of my order with the shipping and handling charge added. The Folkmanis Puppets company has high quality puppets that children love. However, they are pretty expensive. I decided to see if I could order Folkmanis puppets from Amazon.com for a

cheaper price. I was pleasantly surprised that I could. I placed an order for 3 puppets. These animals puppets were purchased to supplement 1book and 2 DVDs. The next time I prepare

an order I will give my wish list items and book/media reviews to subject area teachers to get their professional opinions.
