an Honorary Trustee, for going above and beyond the call of duty! The exhilarating entertainment was provided by D.j. Cre8tive who played classic Rock-A-Billy music and helped with the Name That Tune game. We welcomed the debut of 9 yr. old Janice & The Rise who kept Club Thunder Road rocking and rolling. Our intentions were to honor our former PWP’S, strengthen our brotherhood and sisterhood, educate and recruit

members from our community and enhance a legacy that is moving into

the future. Forgive me for not being able to include everyone’s name who helped make this 2 yr. dream come true. Co-chairman: California State Trustee Tony Villanueva, Aerie Treasurer- John De Anda, Trustee- Ben Jaramillo, PWP Bill

A message from Madam President:Do you want to hear some rumors? If you went to our Aerie’s 93rd Anniversary Birthday Party on Saturday February 4th, what were your

comments? I can tell you. Some were good and some were not so good. One comment was “we used to dress up so fancy and now look at us!!” Well things have changed and change is good. I remember when I used to go to church and I diligently planned to wear my blue dress, matching sweater and matching shoes. Fashion has changed. In some respects, it has it benefits. Clothing was much more comfortable and certainly it is more affordable these days. Fancy? No, not fancy. But quite affordable. Another comment was, the theme was too comprehensive!!” Rockabilly! What’s that? In some ways. It was old fashioned and certainly not formal. Some people really looked good in their 50’s attire. We didn’t all match, but it was fun to see some of our members dressed up in their 50’s style of clothing and to see

them wear their hair like the fifties and the oldies music was quite enjoyable. There were Marilyn Monroe pictures on the wall and a juke box lighting up the place. Oldies theme combined with a new theme: “taking selfies” and that was fun. We took selfies by the juke box, now that was different! And fun! A lot was going on, we had our bartender, Martha competing with a 10 year old girl and it was quite a game of “Name That Tune.” Yes, that was fun; to see and quite enjoyable for all to enjoy. Another comment was “What? A game? How can you have a game in the middle of an anniversary party? Well, the 10 year old little girl and our Bartender Martha were great competitors and provided a good time and were very entertaining for us all. Most of all, I think we all enjoyed the Eagle song, “Where Eagles Fly” We joined hands, but more importantly, we all joined together as a group and we were proud to be eagles and the closeness that the song inspired. Hope to see you all at our next event, the Heart Fund.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Joanna McCloskey. In this time of grief we pray for her husband Neil and their family. We ask the Lord to surround them with his arms of love and that peace be with them in their time of need. We are all deeply saddened by the news of your loss. Please keep Brother Val Moore in your prayers. He was admitted to the hospital with a stomach issue. We pray for a speedy recov-

ery. Val please know you and your family are in our thoughts. Through a Facebook post: Raymond Asher Jr. is back home resting after going through a surgical procedure. Please keep him your thoughts. Fred Hicks is still tough as nails and loyal too. Even with his broken leg he joined us in celebrating our 93rd Aerie Anniversary and State Presidential visit. You are an inspiration Fred. Lastly I ask for your prayers my brothers and sisters. My back is not 100%, over the past few weeks I pushed myself to a danger-ous level of injury. I’m not complaining by no means. I only ask you remember those who are ill, have lost someone special or are suf-fering in silence. In my humble opinion God did not create us to go through life alone so you pray for me and I’ll pray for you like God’s children do. God bless you, in Jesus name,

Worthy Chaplain - JoeLouis Hernandez.

EAGLE CHARITIES

There are many charities that the Fraternal Order of Eagles endorse and support. The most famous of course, is the Diabetes Research Center (DRC). We raised and paid $25,000,000 twenty five million dollars for a Diabetes Research wing at the University of Iowa. The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center (FOE DRC) at the University of Iowa (UI) is uniquely poised to become a premier research institute that is focused on advancing knowledge of the pathophysiology of diabetes and its complications through cutting edge research. This ambitious vision has several goals:First, we will build on the solid foundation already laid by Dr. Daryl Granner, Founding Director Emeritus and the vision of Dr. John Stokes, to strengthen, support and expand the diabetes research infrastructure at the University of Iowa.Second, we will continue to actively recruit and support the brightest and most creative diabetes researchers in the country, to achieve our goal of being on the forefront of innovative diabetes research and to push the boundaries of what is already known. Third, we will leverage the world-class research space in the Pappajohn Biomedical Research Building, where the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center will be housed to realize paradigm-shifting discoveries that we are confident will significantly impact diabetes care.Fourth, We will play a pivotal role in institutional efforts to drive translational initiatives that will impact diabetes care and increase public awareness of the importance of the current diabetes epidemic. As many as 70% of Eagle members of Eagledom have this dreaded disease, so, isn’t it appropriate for the Eagles to turn their attention to the focus and curing of this killer? Other charities We focus on are: The FOE Charity Foundation Funds: Jimmy Durante Children’s Fund. This charity covers all charities that deal specifically with children and those issues that help children. Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund. Art Ehrmann was an Eagle member that always supported Eagle Charities and when he died of cancer the Eagles dedicated the Eagle Cancer efforts to him. Max Baer Heart Fund, another Eagle brother that dedicated his life to Eagle charities and when he passed the Eagles honored him by dedicating the heart fund to his name as they did for Lew Reed Spinal Cord Injury Fund and DD Dunlop Kidney Fund and Robert Hanson Diabetes Fund and Maynard Floyd Alzheimer’s & Neurological Fund. We support the Parkinson’s Fund, Golden Age Eagle Fund and Muscular Dystrophy Fund. But no matter which funds we support as Eagles, the success of our fund raising lies in the efforts that we make as a group, all members supporting each other and giving together to the efforts of fund raising. WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT.
