We know you have many decisions to make about your wedding, including where to host it. At the Indiana State Museum, you can choose from a variety of event spaces to accommodate your guest count. Want to say “I Do” in an intimate location overlooking the canal? Or host your reception in an event space sure to wow your guests? We have a space that is sure to fit your vision for your special day.

Located in White River State Park, the museum offers a unique venue with incredible architecture and beautiful views. We have a variety of spaces, ranging from the re-created L.S. Ayres Tea Room to the dramatic Governor Frank and Judy O’Bannon Great Hall with its soaring 100-foot ceiling and spectacular views of the Canal and Military Park.

Our professional event planners will provide you with the expertise and customer service you need to ensure that your event runs smoothly. Additionally, culinary experts from Kahn’s Catering, the museum’s exclusive caterer, provide menu planning for all types of events. From planning to execution, our goal is to bring your vision to life and make your event memorable.

DETAILS > To book your event, a 50% facility rental deposit

is required along with a signed contract. A check, American Express, MasterCard or Visa are accepted forms of payment.

> Your booking is confirmed upon receiving both signed agreements and deposits for the Indiana State Museum and Kahn’s Catering.

> We offer 51⁄2 hour rentals beginning at 5:30 p.m. To extend the time at the end of your event, the fee is $400 per hour.

> Parking is available in the White River State Park Garage. Day of the event parking is a discounted rate if your guests pay on their own with a voucher. If you wish to cover your guests’ parking, must guarantee a number of passes and purchase ahead of time.

> A certificate of insurance is required for all rental events at the Indiana State Museum.

> The ISMHS at times could be considered under structural or cosmetic construction. Structural and/or cosmetic changes to the Facility and its grounds include but are not limited to gallery closures, improvements to landscape, installation of art, etc. In the best efforts of the Facility, plans will be communicated as early as possible to the Client.

> Housekeeping and security are included.

The iconic INDIANA obelisk graces the center of the Great Hall, lending elegance and unmistakable Hoosier presence to your event. With the canal flowing outside and the breathtaking architecture indoors, this is the ideal space for a memorable reception. The adjacent Ball Family Terrace is included in rental of the Great Hall and is a good option for cocktail hour. It provides guests with spectacular views of the canal, Military Park, and the downtown Indianapolis skyline.

In case of inclement weather on your big day, we will have a back-up plan in place. The Canal Overlook Bridge and Rapp Reception Hall are beautiful indoor options. Your events coordinator along with the catering sales manager, will make the ceremony location call between 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. on your wedding day.

CANAL OVERLOOK BRIDGE With its contemporary design and views of White River State Park, the Canal Overlook Bridge is a wonderful indoor location for a memorable ceremony.

> Accomodates 250 guests. > Your rehearsal the day before at 4:00 p.m. (subject to availability).> White garden chairs.

RAPP RECEPTION HALL With striking views of downtown Indianapolis, the Rapp Reception Hall’s location in the heart of the museum makes it a beautiful setting for a wedding reception. Your guests will enjoy visiting the NiSource Gallery (pending exhibit availability) and peering into the museum’s permanent exhibitions located below.

L.S. AYRES TEA ROOM® Nostalgic elegance makes the L.S. Ayres Tea Room® a lovely venue for an intimate cocktail reception for you and your wedding party. We are happy to provide the same cocktails and hors d’oeuvres that your guests are enjoying outdoors. It’s a lovely setting to sit back and relax before the reception begins. Many couples even choose this spot to sign their marriage certificate after the ceremony.

BOARD ROOM AND MUSEUM CONFERENCE ROOMWe offer two rooms for getting ready. The Board Room, located on Level 3, is a relaxing space with beautiful views of the canal. The Museum Confer-ence Room adjacent to the Board room on level 3, offers lots of room for games, and visiting prior to the ceremony. Room availability starts at 8 am, the day of your wedding.

INCLUDED AMENITIESWe are pleased to offer our couples extra locations to make their day extra special. We provide two meeting rooms for getting ready as well as the L.S. Ayres Tea Room® for a private cocktail hour.
