NCAA Clearinghouse: If you have any intention of participating in college athletics, you must get online to register with the NCAA at www.eligibilitycenter.org. Follow these steps: A) fill in appropriate information, B) Download and bring “permission for records release” to the Guidance Office.

Go online to www.playnaia.org and follow directions. Bring transcript release to the Guidance Office after registering.

No Pass-No Drive:

To keep a permit or driver’s license, a 16/17 year old must pass 4 out of 6 classes, not “dropout” of school, and have no more than 8 Unexcused absences.

Senior Pictures:

For your senior picture to be in the yearbook, you must have the picture taken by Graham’s Photography before September 1. Please call and make arrangements accordingly. Questions can be directed to Mrs. Genji Baily, our yearbook advisor at [email protected].

Kentucky Association of Professional Educators has two scholarships available for graduating seniors. Please visit www.kentuckyteachers.org for more information. Due date 3/15/13.

Please check out www.scholarshipexperts.com for various scholarships for all students. Examples include the “Top Ten List Scholarship,” “Zombie Apocalypse Scholarship,” and the “I was born in 1995 Scholarship.” Various scholarships have different due dates, some as early as December 31, 2012.

BB&T Carpenter-Dent Scholarship application for aspiring pharmacists is now available. The application deadline is June 1, 2013. Please see your counselor for an application.

Porter Scholarships range from $2,500 to full tuition and then some even are higher than full tuition.

Barron Enterprises, Inc. (Morris Jewelry and Candle Makers on the Square) is offering a $5000 scholarship opportunity for Warren County and Bowling Green High Schools (juniors and seniors). One award to the essay winner will be presented for school year 2013. See your counselor for details. Essays must be in the student's own hand, and written in cursive. University of Kentucky is offering 20 first-time freshmen that are first-generation college

students a chance at a $5000 scholarship. To see if you’re eligible, visit

Davidson Fellows Scholarship is a $50,000 scholarship open to US citizens that are 18 years

of age or younger as of September 29, 2013. Applicants must have completed a significant

piece of work in one of the submission categories and be able to demonstrate that the work

South Central Counseling Association (SCCA) is offering a scholarship to a senior planning to

pursue an education degree at a Kentucky university or college. Applications are available

Kentucky Farm Bureau has exciting scholarships available to seniors. To be eligible, you

must:

o have a minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA or a minimum 23 ACT score

o Be the child of a Kentucky Farm Bureau member and remain such while the

scholarship is in force

o Finish high school within the year they apply for the scholarship

o For the Leadership in Agriculture scholarship, applicant’s parents must be actively

engaged in production agriculture.

Citizens First Bank will be giving away a $500 scholarship to a Warren County HS senior

The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland is sponsoring a creative writing contest, Future World:

How would you like to pay for that? The contest asks juniors and seniors in high school to explain

in an essay, play, short story or poem what the future looks like to them – Is there cash or are

smartphones the primary forms of payment for goods and services? What are the costs and

benefits they envision in Future World? As they craft their compositions, students must think

about what economic concepts impact Future World and whether there are any unintended

The National WWII Museum announces 2013 Student Essay. Visit

Independence Bank is pleased to announce its 2013-14 scholarship opportunities. These

scholarships (ranging from $500-$10,000) will be awarded only to students in counties

Independence Bank operates. The first scholarship is a general scholarship open to any

senior attending any school. The second is for a senior attending WKU. The third

scholarship is for a student with a farming background who intends to pursue an

Cardinals of Kentucky of the American Business Women’s Association is offering a special

$2,000 scholarship opportunity to the first twenty eligible applicants. In order to be

eligible for consideration, applicants must be women who: 1) are US citizens and

residents of Warren, Butler, Monroe, Barren, Edmonson, Simpson, Logan, Hart, Allen or

Metcalf counties, 2) a full time college student in the fall of 2013 at a licensed, accredited

Kentucky college or university authorized to confer degrees at the bachelor level or

higher and 3) have a minimum unweighted GPA of 2.5. Please see your guidance

May 15, 2013, but, remember, the first twenty eligible applications are accepted.

The Warren County Democratic Women’s Club is offering a $500 scholarship (can be

used at any post-secondary institution) to a senior male or female student who is

registered as a Democrat or plans to do so once they turn 18. Both parents must be

registered Democrats. The winner of this scholarship will be forwarded on to the state

competition to vie for a $1,000 scholarship (must be used at a Kentucky school). The

deadline to apply is Friday, February 22, 2013 at 4pm CST. See your counselor for an

application.

The Kentucky Federation of Republican Women seeks to grant a $1,000 to a college

bound high senior girl who has been politically active during her high school career. The

qualified applicant will graduate from a Kentucky high school in 2013, is a registered

Republican and plans to enroll at an accredited college or university in Kentucky. Please

see your counselor for an application. Deadline to enter is April 1, 2013.

Student Insights announces the 2013 Student-View Scholarship Program worth $10,500 worth of scholarships to high school seniors who plan to attend a four-year college, community/junior college or career school. It’s quick and easy to apply. Simply log on to www.student-view.com and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area. The scholarship will be awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications. The winner will be announced in May 2013. The deadline is April 21, 2013.

Any senior planning to attend WKU and major in Science or Engineering needs to write a one page narrative with the subject heading “Why I am interested in becoming an Ogden Research Scholar” and see their guidance counselor no later than February 11, 2013 to be considered for nomination for the $2500 Ogden Research Scholarship.

The WKU ALIVE Center coordinates a program for students with an interest in service to get assistance with their tuition at WKU. The program titled Bonner Leadership Scholar is accepting applications until April 1, 2013. Lindsey Wilson College announces Scholars Day on February 23, 2013. Any senior that has an ACT composite score of 24 or above may compete for the Begley Scholarship which provides full tuition, room and board. Students competing for the scholarship must write an essay on the following topic, “On Election Day 2012, Massachusetts became the 18th state to legalize medical marijuana. What are your thoughts?” To reserve your spot, submit an application for admission, official transcript, and three letters of recommendation and your essay by February 15, 2013. Testing Info:

PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) test results from the October 17, 2012 will be available in January.

The next available ACT test date is April 13, 2013 (Registration deadline is March 8, 2013 with late registration from March 9-22, 2013). The GHS code number is 180254. To register for the ACT test, visit www.actstudent.org.

College Visit Info:

As a senior you may make ONE college visit on a school day as long as you get it pre-approved by Mr. Dunn. Simply write a note, drop it off at the attendance desk, and we will

take it from there. You will need to turn in proof of your visit from the post-secondary institution upon your return to school.

Miami University is offering an expense paid overnight visit for high-achieving, underrepresented high school seniors (class of 2013). Students who successfully complete the Bridges program and apply for first year admission to Miami’s Oxford campus for fall 2013 will have their $50 application fee waived and receive a $10,000 scholarship. Covenant College, located in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, is offering 2012-13 preview weekends. Students spend two nights in the residence halls with current students, sit in on classes and tour the campus. The cost of attendance is $40 per student. The Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE) is a three week residential summer camp where creative students become immersed in developing solutions to real world problems or needs. Students, working in teams, will learn how to take an idea, utilize science, technology, engineering and math skills to turn it into a product or service, and develop a business model around it. The camp is FREE, open to all high school students and will be held at Georgetown College June 9-29. Students can apply as an individual or as a team of two or more. WKU Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science has started the admissions process for the class of 2015. To apply, a student must be a sophomore, complete Geometry and Algebra II prior to enrollment, score a minimum 22 math on the ACT or score a minimum 520 math on the SAT, and submit all required materials no later than February 1, 2013. Murray State University is hosting the summer 2013 Commonwealth Honors Academy June 8-29, 2013. This academy brings together gifted high school juniors for three weeks in an interdisciplinary living environment. Upon completion of the Academy, students will receive six hours of university studies credit, have the opportunity to take six additional hours of tuition free university courses at Murray State during their senior year, and be awarded a four-year $2000 per year housing scholarship to Murray State University. To be eligible students must have completed the junior year of high school, have a composite ACT of approximately 25, as well as other credentials (such as community involvement, class rank and teacher recommendations) are taken into consideration in the selection process. The STEP (Students Turning Education into Potential) Program is a program for selected juniors and seniors sponsored by Leadership BG. The program develops fundamental leadership skills and exposes students to numerous civic, educational and vocational opportunities within the community. Events are during the school day (except the Reception and Graduation) and will be considered EXCUSED absences. A $1,000 scholarship is given away for one of the participants each year.
