Before diving into the most popular business structures online, let’s

look at some universal tools used in each category.

First, let’s consider the staple of doing business in the 21st century-the website, but more specifically the blog. A website is the hub of your

identity online. That is where customers find out about your products

and where you define your brand. The blog is crucial since you have a permanent home for the valuable information you are bringing to your

current and future customers.

Similar to affiliate marketing, you also need a database of possible

customers to sell your products to, but with direct sales you generally have the physical products and sell them direct to the customer. You’re

dealing with the inventory, you’re dealing with the customer service and

you’re dealing with the returns.

help steer you in the right direction.

Then, you just need to be honest with yourself about your willingness to do the work. You’re not the only person to have a vision

worth pursuing. Just because your vision is clear and you community is


supportive does not mean it will be effortless to start your business

Fundamental Action Steps

Vision

Now is the time to get abundantly clear about why you

want to start your business online. Go farther than money.

Money is a great motivation but it is only a start. Draw

a picture of your perfect day. Are you on the beach? Is your 2

new business your only income? What type of shoes are you wearing? The more specific you get, the better. Your vision

needs to pour into your every action and thought.

Lead Magnet

Have you ever opted to buy a dress online instead of in

the store because of “free shipping”? If so, then you are

familiar with the customer end of a lead magnet.

A lead magnet is anything you use to entice your

customer to leave their contact information. I’ll give you free

shipping, a 4-minute video training, a discount or an e-book like you’re reading right now if you enter your first name and

email address.

You will need to tailor your lead magnet for your

specific audience. A lead magnet is non-negotiable. Sure, you may have a section on your website asking for contact

information but customers what to know they are getting something from you and at the end of the day your business

needs the information.

A successful lead magnet needs the following characteristics:

- Gives specific value to the customer

- Is simple to understand

- Can be used immediately

When you have these 3 points working in one lead

magnet, you will increase the amount of quality leads you receive and in turn your email list will grow. Also, if you are

afraid to give information away for free, then you need to re-

frame your mind. You’re not giving anything away for free, you are building customer loyalty and brand identity.

Website Funnel

The lead magnet is just a piece of the online model that is most effective when used inside of a website funnel, like


Clickfunnels. As Clickfunnels puts it, “If you want

customers-you need a funnel.”

Marketing

Now that's all the logistics are out of the way, you need

to bring customers to your website. Think of your website like your storefront. If no one walks by your storefront, then you

will have no customers. Since this is not a brick and mortar

business, we have to think of marketing different. Instead of buying an ad in the local newspaper, you should buy an ad on

the digital platform where all your customers go. For our

purposes, this will be Facebook.

When To Look for a Mentor

Every time you start a new project, you’ll notice there

is an ocean of knowledge between you and the people that have achieved what you are working towards. This is normal


and this is a good thing because that means there is a wealth

of information that you can tap into.

When you find yourself standing at the top of a

mountain deciding which direction to go, follow in the footsteps of someone that has been there already. That person

will become your mentor.

How to Choose A Mentor

A mentor should be a leader at the tasks you want to master, speak truth and be genuinely interested in your

personal growth. While many people start finding their

mentors in books, it is crucial to realize where that mentorship ends. You need someone you can send a message

to. A real person you can meet at an event and break bread with. Someone that will tell you when you are off track and

where to go next.

Levels of Mentorship

A mentor will take different forms in your life. When you’re just starting your journey you can find a mentor in a

book and use the nuggets of wisdom they reveal to fill in all the blanks in your business plan.

Nuggets of wisdom without an action plan will only

take you so far. What’s better than a mentor you can read


about? A mentor that will sit with you and take you to the

next step. A mentor that will see you where you are and show you what next step to take. A mentor who is on another level

than you. A mentor whose vision is to get others to the next level.

Part II: Save (For Your Business) Now, that you’ve seen the different ways that you can make money, let’s look at the ways you can start saving for your business,

because let’s be honest, your business will require some capital.

First, let’s look at the expenses you need to account for. That business is your baby and in this case, you get paid as your baby grows

up. To keep the growth steady and plan for the rough times, let’s look at

an overview of what you need to plan for.

While we’ve gone over it earlier, let’s look at all the costs in one

place:

- Marketing: $5 per day per Ad; so if you run 3 ads, that’s $15/day

- Education and Events: $50-1000s per event

- Tools : $129-$359 per month 3

- Living expenses: Variable

This means that at a minimum you will need a few hundred bucks per

month to sustain your business.

Before you start pulling in a sustainable income from your business, you need to have an idea of where you want to be in the

perfect financial situation. With the housing market in the United States,

it is estimated that most single income families pay over 50% of their

income in rent alone and many with 2 incomes have debt. If you explore

options to lower your largest expenses and reevaluate what you are putting money away for, you’ll start to see just how possible

bootstrapping your business is.

My favorite example of this is entrepreneurs that travel to Thailand

and pay less than $450 total on living expenses and save the rest of their

income for their business. Now, not everyone understands the benefit of moving to another country or would move their entire reality to another

country, but I would suggest you read Tim Ferris’s book The 4-Hour

Work Week.

Eliminate Unnecessary Costs

Daily coffee shop visits, tabloid magazines, weekly lottery tickets, and anything else that does not add value to your life should be

eliminated.

While I believe self-care is very important, that gym membership you haven’t used in 4 months should be cancelled. You can choose to

paint your nails at home instead of going to the nail salon every 2-3 weeks. Find a coupon, like Groupon, for your monthly facial

appointment. However, if you are doing each of those things you really

need to buckle down and choose 1 or 2 that you can’t live without. In a perfect world, your vision will be so great that you will be able to go


without any frivolous wastes of money. Every dollar you take away from

your business is more time you are adding to your original ROI.

Write And Stick To A Physical Budget

A budget is not useful if you break it. Think of your budget like a

promise you make so that your vision becomes a reality. The farther

away you get from your budget, the farther you get from making your dream a reality.

You may be thinking, “I have my budget in my head and I do a

pretty darn good job sticking to it.” That’s great. Now, go through your credit and debit bank statements and sort each charge as necessary or

unnecessary. If your unnecessary column is more than $100 per month,

then you can work on that. $100 dollars can go a long way in your marketing, but a random magazine every week adds nothing to your

vision.

The purpose of saving and eliminating extra expenses is because you need to spend money and if you are just starting out, you should

have seed money to start out. First, analyze if you can bootstrap the business yourself. If you cannot, are you ready to look for creative

solutions to bootstrap your business? A business loan or other line credit

can give you months or years of capital for your business while you learn the ropes.


Before You Borrow Money

I didn’t know the importance of my credit score until I needed it

and by then it was too late. So, before you think about borrowing money ask yourself some questions:

1. Do you know what it will cost you if you have a credit score below

720?

The difference between a score higher than 720 and one below 720

can mean the difference of 5.5% in a interest rate or hundreds of

dollars a year lost to interest.

2. Do you know how to improve your credit score? If no:

You’re not alone. Many Americans don’t pay attention to the rules

of credit until something big happens like buying a house or car and as I’ve said before, that’s too late. Now, that you know this,

you can start making moves like lowering your debt-to-income

ratio, to get a reasonable rate on interest loans. I’m very grateful we know experts who are willing to share what they know to those

who work with us and at live events. I’m talking about the man who literally wrote the book on achieving a 720 credit score.


Part III: Invest

Once you realize that you have identified a passion, invest in yourself.

Figure out what you need to know, what kind of experience and expertise you need to develop to do the things that you feel in your heart you will

enjoy and that will sustain you both mentally and economically.

Find Out What You Need

As the saying goes, you don’t know what you don’t know. It takes

brutal honesty and humbleness to point out your weaknesses. Do you need energy of a 1,000 people in a room to boost your motivation?

Become part of a virtual network where everyone uplifts and challenges

one another. Do your friends, family and current circle of influence think your vision is impossible? Go to a live event. Have you reached a

plateau in your business? Find a mentor that has been there and can lift

you up.

I had struggled with my business for years before finally travelling

to a live event. I was in a room with thousands of people with the same

focus as myself. We were all on the same path to grow our business online. Being around that type of energy was invigorating and made my

desire deeper to make my vision a reality, but it didn’t stop at that event.


Through my journey, I also found that I can either scale my

business slowly or quickly. If I had a year to grow my audience, I could make a YouTube channel and wait until my audience grows as I

consistently put out content or I could skip the waiting period and target my audience directly with Facebook ads. While you can market ads

through Google, the tracking software and database through Facebook is

so specific that it will be the focus of paid advertising from my point-of-view. It’s also the platform we’ve invested well over $300,000 in.

Facebook ads can be set up easily and some companies even give

free credits for use on Facebook, so you will be able to start for free. It’s as simple as setting up your free ad account, choosing your ad type and

selecting your audience. It may take time to hone in on the correct

audience for your business but the user-friendly platform will allow you to quickly make changes as you see what is working and what is not.

Don’t Forget About Uncle Sam

I may never get used to putting ⅓ of my profits to the side to pay

taxes, but it is a cost of doing business. I would rather put the money aside once I get it, than be unprepared to pay when April 18th rolls

around- because at the end of the day my biggest expenses are taxes and

advertising.


Always Be Improving

There will never be a time in my life where I have reached my

highest peak. If you ask any successful entrepreneur what it feels like to be at the top, they will tell you that they just moved their goals higher. At

the end of the day, improvement is a never-ending journey.

What Do You Think Is Your Greatest Asset?

Are you the best communicator? Are you tech savvy? Both? Well, take that best quality and know that there are thousands of people that

have the same qualities as you. What they do not have is the divine

package of characteristics that make you, you- and no one will ever be able to take that away from you. The government can’t tax it. And no

one can duplicate it even though they will try. Remember that everyday

as you grind it out in your business.

Also, realize that you will always want to put your best foot

forward, so invest in yourself- Read books, go to events and build a

relationship with a mentor.
