The Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria was formed in 1869 by a group of prominent Melbourne leaders to care for aged and needy Victorians.

OuR HiStoRy

The association’s first village was established in Rushall Crescent, North Fitzroy, after the Government gifted an acreage of land.

George Selth Coppin was the main instigator behind the Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria. His extraordinary talent at encouraging ‘established’ Colonists to fund the building of cottages for those in need laid the foundations of the association it is today, continuing to benefit people in need.

Today, almost 150 years on, the Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria continues this tradition of supporting and providing best practice care and support to older Victorians in need, although now the concept of ‘need’ has broadened to include physical, financial, security and social.

A gift in your will reflects your beliefs and values well into the future.

After providing for your own family, you can make a difference to older Victorians in need by leaving a bequest – a lasting and meaningful gift – to the Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria.

Bequests, large and small, have supported the Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria for almost 150 years. They have been vital to ensuring the start of many significant projects, all of which have a positive impact on the daily lives of older Victorians.

Previous bequests have allowed us to create gardens in our villages, undertake extensive renovations and helped to fund significant upgrades and expansion of our facilities.

You can choose to leave a gift to Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria as an entire organisation, or to a specific village or care program, such as our dementia services or our health and wellbeing program, or our capital works program.

Please let us know if you have added us to your Will already. We’d like to have the opportunity to thank you now and show our appreciation. If you prefer to keep your bequest private we understand.

You can be assured that a gift in your Will to Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria will touch the lives of generations of Victorians as they grow older and need support.

A BEquEST IS A PERSONAL CHOICE of gReAt imPoRtAnCe

When I used to travel around the country I would see retirement places that looked very

flash with swimming pools and all sorts of things. But this is the best place to be.

The Old Colonists’ Association of Victoria is a leading not-for-profit retirement village provider offering a continuum of care from independent living, assisted living through to aged care.

OLd COLONISTS’ ASSOCIATION OF VICTORIA todAy And into tHe fUtURe

Our four villages in Berwick, Euroa, North Fitzroy and St Helena are home to 500 older Victorians in need. We have 150 staff providing best practice quality care across all four villages. Our 140 volunteers deliver a range of programs such as health ageing programs, pet therapy and social media tutoring.

Our residents meet regularly with our staff to improve the residential experience and to discuss the challenges of growing older. Working as partners enables staff and residents alike to take control of their own future, regardless of changing external factors.

By 2050 Australia will have six million people over the age of 65. Meeting their needs, through health and care services, and accommodation will be vital.

Public housing and private rental accommodation alone are not the answer. Our elderly need a safe, secure, supportive and engaging communal environment. Without this, older Victorians will suffer financial stress and adverse impact on their social and physical well-being.

Our plans for the future of the association are bold. The Council has prepared an ambitious master plan that builds on the legacy left by our founders almost 150 years ago. The legacy will meet the challenges of an ageing population.

The vision provides an affordable solution that enables even those with no financial backing to live in a vibrant community, comfortable in the knowledge that our continuum of care will provide for their future needs.

Planned capital works include a $14.9 million redevelopment to provide 49 new independent living homes at Leith Park, an $11.6 million redevelopment at Rushall Park to provide 35 new independent living homes, and smaller but vital upgrades to Braeside Park’s communal facilities and Liscombe House’s low and high care rooms.

We are exploring the potential to develop new villages in Melbourne and the outlying suburbs to meet the demand for our “age in place” living communities approach to retirement and older age.

The gardens are wonderful because people are drawn to things that are growing, so they gravitate around the garden and it’s a great opportunity to socialise

and be among a community.

”- Helen Austin - Rushall Park
