• The power is in the hands of the people• The members of

congress are elected by those they represent to make laws• Consists of 435

representatives and 100 senators • Was the first branch

created but eventually the founders realized that there needed to be a central power

• We know it as the president (Obama) but also other people• The president’s cabinet

is included• Has the power to veto

This branch is here to interpret the Constitution

• Talks about the freedom of religion, speech, and press

• Has some differences also which we will talk about too

• Responsibilities of Citizens are to; Volunteer when needed, Pay taxes, serve on juries, and to Vote

• Executive: The person and his office that holds the most power in a place: Governor vs President (Nathan Deal vs Barack Obama)• Legislative: The elected

body of those who represent the people of a place: Georgia General Assembly vs Congress• Judicial: The group

appointed to make sure that the laws are constitutional: Georgia Supreme Court vs National Supreme Court

• We will watch this School house rock finishing up with how a bill is created• Next week we will

look at the formation of a bill and how that process works in the legislative branch• If we have time we

will do a bill activity
