January 20, 2009Barack Obama will be sworn in as our 44th President of the United States. He will take
an oath prescribed in the Constitution which will be administered by Chief Justice
John G. Roberts Jr. This historical ceremonial event will mark the beginning of a four year
term to preserve, protect and defend the United States of America.
Barack Hussein Obama was elected president on Nov. 4, 2008, becoming the first African-American to claim the highest office in the land, an improbable candidate fulfilling a once-impossible dream.

As we celebrated the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on a national holiday dedicated to his honor, many people point to the surging presidential candidacy of Barack Obama as evidence of how far this country has come in terms of race relations since the days of the Civil Rights struggle led by Dr. King. Many see Obama’s campaign as the fulfillment of Dr. King’s dream. As they would point out, here is a man who is being judged based on the content of his character, and not on the color of his skin. Could anything be more representative of the fulfillment of Dr. King’s dream than that?

Barack Obama will swear his presidential oath of office on the bible Abraham Lincoln used.
He will rest his left hand on the tome, which was borrowed from the Library of Congress, to recite his 35-word oath. This bible
has not been used since 1861 by Abraham Lincoln.
