Welcoming the first Hawksbill turtle at Faarufushi

Imagine taking off from a speedboat for an exhilarating flight up to an impressive 180 meters. Fly solo or with a loved one and enjoy the stunning panoramic view of the Indian Ocean of the day. Glide through the air wearing an open parachute under the strict supervision of our trained professionals. A definite MUST DO for everybody.

Daily Ritual: “I wake up without an alarm around 7 or 8 a.m. and practice yoga and meditation every morning

Favorite Animal: “Humpback Whale - Peaceful and graceful giant that sings magical songs underwater".

Save the Sea Initiative: Bracenet has set itself the task of drawing attention to a serious problem which is affecting our seas and oceans: the so-called ghost nets. Animals such as dolphins, seals, sea turtles and whales become entangled in these nets, leading to serious injuries and eventually death. At Faarufushi our handcrafted ghost net bracelets are made entirely of ghost gear recovered from the Indian Ocean.

Advice: You need to have great passion and determination to be a Marine Biologist. Sometimes it's very easy to get discouraged but if you persist with your hard work and focus on your love for the ocean then you end up living your dream.

Driving Philosophy: “Ocean conservation is not only about the marine animals; it’s also about people. All fish can do is try to adapt to a changing world, where oceans are warmer, more acid and full of pollution. People are the ones who can really make a difference in protecting the marine environment. That's why it's primarily important to raise awareness and teach them how to respect the ocean.”

Eco-friendly bottled waterThe water bottling plant at Faarufushi will begin its operation mid November producing fresh water from salt water sourced from the sea which is turned into fresh water through our reverse osmosis equipment. Additionally the bottled water goes through a unique crystal purification system, giving it a very pleasant lighter taste.

“With the move to producing our own drinking water, we expect to save almost 2 tons of empty plastic bottles each year and provide a positive environmental, social and economic impact and importantly, offset carbon emissions from resort activities,” said general manager, Jean-Marc Michel. “Generating our own water saves on importing tons of bottled water each year and greatly reduces the number of plastic and glass bottles we need to dispose of in a country that’s still working on refining its recycling capabilities but committed to show major improvements in the near future and we are happily helping to improve the carbon foot print in our destination.

The water bottling plant can produce up to 400 liters of drinking water every day, including both still and sparkling varieties. The water will be served to guests in glass bottles which are then returned to the bottling plant for washing and re-filling.
