1. Tourist Arrivals
From 1st January 2021 to 6th January 2021, a total of 18,086 tourists arrived in the Maldives.
The top source market for the tourist arrival was Russia with 5,331 arrivals, followed by India with 1,816 tourist arrivals. Ukraine stood third with 1,779 tourist arrivals. Other top source markets include Kazakhstan, Romania, Germany, France, U.S.A, and Uzbekistan.

2. Current Situation of COVID-19 in the Maldives
ISOLATION FACILITIES
Currently over 2400 samples are being tested daily (as at 05th/06th January 2021) including departure results, as testing facilities are conveniently available for tourists.
As of 06th January 2021 we have 3 COVID-19 hospital facilities in greater male’ area with 258 beds and additional 5 COVID-19 hospital facilities across the country with 183 beds. Out of these beds 183 are vacant, respectively.

In isolation facilities, tourists stay in private areas with special arrangements. In addition, they are closely monitored by our health care professionals.

Maldives welcomed the first visitor of 2021 under the newly launched Maldives Border Miles
Program.The first visitor was a German national, Jochen Paul Karch arrived via Qatar Airways (QR 674).
In a special ceremony held at Velana International Airport on 1st January 2021, the visitor was awarded Aida Tier of Maldives Border Miles Program by Maldives Immigration. He was greeted by officials from Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Maldives Immigration and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

On 1st January 2021, His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has launched the first issue of “Maldives Tourism Bulletin” - Tourism Magazin by Ministry of Tourism. Announcing the launch in a tweet, President stated that he is confident that the magazine would prove useful for the industry stakeholders, students and visitors. In addition, President also contributed to the foreword of the first issue. The first issue included highlights and milestones of 2020, tourism statistics of 2020, conversations with tourism industry workers, partners and additional stories from working women in the industry. Countdown for Tourism Golden Jubilee Year 2022
A special event to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of British Loyalty wreck was held on 5th January 2021 at Maradhoo, Addu City harbor area. The event, which was organized by Nalafehi Meedhoo, a non-government organization in association with the Addu City Council was inaugurated by the Minister of Tourism, with the unveiling of the logo for the 75th anniversary of the British Loyalty Wreck. The British Loyalty Wreck, is the biggest and one of the most popular shipwreck in the Maldives, lies 33 meters underwater between the island of Maradhoo and Hithadhoo in Addu City. The ship is home to a large number corals and surrounded by group of fishes including blue-fin jack and turtles. Manta rays and Sharks are also found around the wreck.
To mark the 50th Anniversary of Maldives Tourism industry, the Ministry of Tourism has launched a social media countdown campaign on 1st January 2021. Countdown to “#Golden2022”, is series of video clips with special messages from tourism industry pioneers, partners, employees and tourists, which will be shared daily on all social media platforms of Ministry of Tourism throughout 2021. The aim of this campaign is to create awareness on tourism development and its benefits to the country and engage public in the golden jubilee celebrations of Maldives tourism. The campaign was inaugurated with a video clip from Mr. George Corbin, one of the very first visitors to the Maldives and one of the pioneers of tourism development in the country.
