A meeting point in space and time. Manao take Canarian folk music as
their starting point and develop this through their own medium: jazz and improvisation.
In this project, Jose A. Vera Bello has reworked the musical background of the traditional so it may converse with the fluent, contemporary
language that he has taken on board over the years. From Holland to New York, yet always closely linked to the Canary Islands.
Manao is the result of a personal and musical journey. The result of a mature vision that has taken as its starting point the awareness of its
own origins as a reflection of itself. This in turn has branched off into the resulting cosmopolitan openness to diversity and the new.
A range of rhythms whose reference point is always faithfulness to the Canary Islands sound and which enrich each improvisation. A creative
musical space for great instrumental diversity; litophones, tablas, chacaras, bansuris, entrusted with creating the atmospheres that have
inspired each one of the compositions and arrangements.
Manao lays the foundations of the characteristics of a band that has managed to achieve the strengthening of the eclecticism of roots whilst
maintaining their own character as a base. In this way openness is presented here as a central musical and human nexus.
