RailAnchorThismanualisintendedtomeettheManufacturer'sInstructionsasrequiredbyANSIZ359andshouldbeusedaspartofanemployeetrainingprogramasrequiredbyOSHA.Thismanualassumestheuserhasreceivedtrainingintheuseofthisequipment.
WARNING
Thisproductispartofapersonalfallarrest,restraint,workpositioning,suspension,orrescuesystem.APersonalFallArrestSystem(PFAS)istypicallycomposedofananchorageandaFullBodyHarness(FBH),withaconnectingdevice,i.e.,aShockAbsorbingLanyard(SAL),oraSelf-RetractingDevice(SRD),attachedtothedorsalD-ringoftheFBH.

TheFallTech®RailAnchorisdesignedtoprovideamobilefootlevelfallprotectionanchorforattachinga12footfreefalllanyard.ThelanyardrequiredforusewiththisanchormeetsANSIZ359.13-2013requirements.Therailanchorisusedbyrailroadmaintenancepersonnelonbridges,cliffsandotherlocationswherefallhazardsexistandrailisavailable.Theanchormayalsobeusedasarestraintanchordependingupontheworkplacegeometryandtheavailablerestraintsystemcomponents.Theanchoriscomposedoftwoformedsteelsideplatesthatareplacedonbothsidesofarail.Theanchorisattachedtotherailbyaligningandslidingthetwosideplatestogetherovertherail.Tabsandslotsineachsideplatealignandjointoformtheanchor.Asupplieddetentpinisinsertedintothesecuringholetolockthetwoplatestogether.Thespeciallyshapedfallprotectionconnectingeyeatthetopisdesignedtoinhibitunintentionaldisengagementofthe12-footfreefalllanyard.Theanchorisopenatthebottomtoallowittoslideineitherdirectionontherail.Theanchorfitsrailroadrailsinthe112poundsto141poundsrange,withminimum/maximumwidthsof2-23/32"to3-1/16".TheanchordiscussedinthismanualisANSIZ359compliantandmeetsallapplicableOSHA29CFR1926.502regulations.SeeFigure1andTable1inAppendixA.AllfigureandtablereferencesinthismanualaretoAppendixA.AppendixAalsoprovidesanInspectionRecord,andalistofacronymsandabbreviations.ForpurposesofthismanualtheanchorandassociatedfastenersmaybereferredtoasTheRailAnchor,theanchor,theproduct,theequipment,ortheunit.2. SYSTEMREQUIREMENTS3.1 Capacity:Limituserweightto130–310lbs.,(59–140.6kg),includingclothing,tools,etc.NomorethanonePFASmaybeattachedtoananchoratanytime.3.2 CompatibilityofConnectors:Connectorsareconsideredcompatiblewithconnectingelementswhentheyhavebeendesignedtoworktogetherinsuchawaythattheirsizesandshapesdonotcausetheirgatemechanismstoopeninadvertently,regardlessofhowtheybecomeoriented.ContactFallTechifyouhaveanyquestionsaboutcompatibility.Connectorsmustbecompatiblewiththeanchorageorothersystemcomponents.Donotuseequipmentthatisnotcompatible.Non-compatibleconnectorsmayunintentionallydisengage.Connectorsmustbecompatibleinsize,shape,andstrength.ANSIandOSHArequireself-closing,self-lockingsnaphooksandcarabiners.SeeFigure9forcommonincorrectconnectionsto avoid.Theanchordiscussedinthismanualisdesignedtobeusedonlywitha12-footfreefalllanyardcompliantwithANSIZ359.13-2013.DONOTattachrebarhookstothisanchor.Asideloadonthegatemaycauseanunintentionaldisengagement.Useonlyself-closing,self-lockingcarabinerswitha5,000lbgate.Donotuseswivel,captive-eye,orstandardcarabiners.3.3 CompatibilityofComponents:Equipmentisdesignedforusewithapprovedcomponentsandsubsystemsonly.Substitutionsorreplacementsmadewithnon-approvedcomponentsorsubsystemsmayjeopardizecompatibilityofequipmentandmayaffectthesafetyandreliabilityofthecompletesystem.3.4 MakingConnections:Useonlyconnectorsdesignedforusewiththisequipment,suitabletoeachapplication.Ensureallconnectionsarecompatibleinsizeandstrength.Donotuseequipmentthatisnotcompatible.Visuallyensureallconnectorsarefullyclosedandlocked.Connectors(snaphooksandcarabiners)aredesignedtobeusedonlyasspecifiedineachproduct’suserinstructions.3.5 PersonalFallArrestSystem:PFASusedwiththerailanchormustmeetANSIZ359requirementsandapplicableOSHAregulations.Ananchorage
selectedforPFASmustbeabletosustainastaticloadappliedinthedirectionpermittedbythePFASofatleast:
a) Twotimesthemaximumarrestforcepermittedwhencertificationexists,orb) 5,000lbs.,(22.2kN)intheabsenceofcertification.
AnFBHmustbewornwhenthisequipmentisusedasacomponentofaPFAS.AsrequiredbyOSHA,thepersonalfallarrestsystemmustbeabletoarresttheuser’sfallwithamaximumarrestingforceof1,800lbs.,andinthisapplicationlimitfreefallto12feetorless.Ifthemaximumfreefalldistancemustbeexceeded,theemployermustdocument,basedontestdata,thatthemaximumarrestingforcewillnotbeexceeded,andthepersonalfallarrestsystemwillfunctionproperly.3.5.1 RestraintSystem:Ananchorageselectedforrestraintmustbeabletosupportastaticloadappliedinthedirectionpermittedbythesystemofatleast:
a) Twotimestheforeseeableforcewhencertificationexists,orb) 1,000lbs.(4.4kN)intheabsenceofcertification.
AnFBHmustbewornwhenthisequipmentisusedasacomponentofarestraintsystem.AsrequiredbyOSHA,therestraintsystemmustpreventtheuserfromreachingafallhazardarea.Freefallisnotpermitted.3.6Definitions:Thefollowingaredefinitionsofterms.AuthorizedPerson:Apersonassignedbytheemployertoperformdutiesatalocationwherethepersonwillbeexposedtoafallhazard(otherwisereferredtoas“user”forthepurposeoftheseinstructions).CertifiedAnchorage:Ananchorageforfallarrest,positioning,restraint,orrescuesystemsthataqualifiedpersoncertifiestobecapableofsupportingthepotentialfallforcesthatcouldbeencounteredduringafallorthatmeetthecriteriaforacertifiedanchorageprescribedinthisstandard.CompetentPerson:Onewhoiscapableofidentifyingexistingandpredictablehazardsinthesurroundingsorworkingconditionswhichareunsanitary,hazardous,ordangeroustoemployees,andwhohasauthorizationtotakepromptcorrectivemeasurestoeliminatethem.QualifiedPerson:Apersonwitharecognizeddegreeorprofessionalcertificateandwithextensiveknowledge,training,andexperienceinthefallprotectionandrescuefieldwhoiscapableofdesigning,analyzing,evaluatingandspecifyingfallprotectionandrescuesystemstotheextentrequiredbythisstandard.Rescuer:Personorpersonsotherthantherescuesubjectactingtoperformanassistedrescuebyoperationofarescuesystem.4. INSTALLATIONANDOPERATIONInstallationandoperationoffallprotectionanchoragesmustbeunderthesupervisionofacompetentpersontrainedintheirdesignanduse.NOTE:Approvedfallprotectionmayberequiredduringinstallationofallanchorageunitsdiscussedinthismanual.DONOTuseanyanchoragediscussedinthismanualuntilthesystemhasbeencompletelyinstalled,inspected,andapprovedforusebyacompetentperson.Plantheinstallationcarefully.Considerconditionsandcircumstancesthatcouldaffectusersafety.InspecttheanchorbeforeeachuseaccordingtotheinspectionproceduredetailedinSection7ofthismanual.4.1 FallClearanceCalculation:WhenworkingatheightsandusingaPFASensurethereisenoughdistancebetweenthewalking/workinglevelandthenextlowerlevelorobstructiontoprovidesufficientdistanceforthePFAStofunctionincaseofafallevent.TheFallClearanceDistancecanbecalculatedinmanydifferentwaysdependingonequipment.Attachingtoafoot-levelanchorincreasesfallclearancerequirements.Figure3ofthismanualisspecifictotheapplicationdiscussedinthismanualanddetailshowtodeterminetheminimumfallclearancefromafootlevelanchorage.Inaddition,consulttheuserinstructionmanualprovidedbythemanufacturerofthefallprotectionsysteminuse.4.2 SwingFall:Applicationanduseoftheanchordiscussedinthismanualwillrequireafoot-leveltieoff,asshowninFigure4.Swingfallsfromafoot-leveltieoffareespeciallyhazardousandtheforceofstrikinganobjectorthenextlowerlevelmaycauseseriousinjuryordeath.Workasclosetotheanchoraspossible.4.3 InstallationRequirements:SeeSection3foranchoragestrengthrequirements.Theanchordiscussedinthismanualisdesignedforrailroadrailof112poundto141pound,withheadwidthsbetween2-23/32”and3-1/16”.SeeTable2fordimensionaldata.Measuretherailandensurethatitisthecorrectsizeforthisanchor.Donotusethisanchoronhead-freerail.SeeFigure5.Avoidsharpedges,abrasivesurfaces,movingmachinery,causticchemicals,andheatsources.Ensuretheanchoragestructureiscapableofsupportingallrequiredloads.

ordeath4.4 InstalltheRailAnchor:Followthesesteps;1. Inspecttherailforanydamage,abnormalityorcontaminates.Ensuretherailiswithinthedimensionsstatedinthismanual.SeeTable2andFigure5.2. RemovethedetentpinfromtherailanchorandseparatethetwoplatesasshowninFigure6.3. InspectthetwoplatesinaccordancewiththeproceduresdetailedinSection7ofthismanual.4. Placebothsideplatesonoppositesidesoftherail.5. Inserttheinterlockingtabsthroughtheinterlockingslots.6. Slidetheplatesintoalignment.Visuallyensurethesecuringholeisaligned,andthattheconnectoreyeisaligned.7. Insertthedetentpininthesecuringhole.
4.4.1 UsetheAnchor:Useofthisanchorislimitedtoabovethegradeonly.InspecttheanchorbeforeeachuseaccordingtotheproceduredetailedinSection7.AttachtheFallTechIronman®12-footfreefalllanyard,partnumber8248,totheconnectioneyeontheanchor.Consultthefallprotectionsystemmanufacturer’suserinstructionsfordetails.NOTE:Partnumber7495Kisarailanchorkit,completewitha12-footfreefalllanyard.Partnumber7495Aisananchoronly.Ifusing7495A,usewithanapproved12footfreefalllanyard.DONOTusetheanchorinanymannernotconsistentwiththeinstructionsinthismanual.DONOTuseaSelf-RetractingDeviceoranon-compatiblecarabinerwiththisanchor.DONOTusethisanchoronhead-freerail.SeeFigure7.4.5AfteraFall:Removefromserviceanyequipmentsubjectedtofallarrestforces.5. 7.1 Pre-Use:Priortoeachuse,theusermustinspectthesystemforanyphysicaldamage,wear,corrosion,ormissingparts.Iftheanchorhasbeensubjectedtoafallarrestload,removeitfromservice.Theanchormustbeinspectedbyacompetentpersonatleastannually.SeeFigure8.Inspectfor:
1) cracks2) fractures3) corrosion4) bentorbrokensideplateorconnectoreye5) missingordefectivedetentpin6) checkforexcessivewearinsidetheanchor7) Ensuretheanchortipisbeneaththebottomedgeoftherailheadwheninuse.
7.2 AnnualInspectionbyaCompetentPerson:Anannualinspectionbyacompetentpersonisrequired.SeeFigure8.Inadditiontothestepsinparagraph7.1,performthefollowingchecks;
1) Checkforexcessivewearinsidetheanchor.2) Measuretheanchoropening;ensureitdoesnotexceedthemaximumwidthof1-1/2".3) MeasurethewallthicknessoftheanchorattheindicatorarrowsshowninFigure8.Ensureitiswithinspecification.
Ifroutineinspectionrevealsdamagetotheanchor,discontinueuseandremoveitfromservice.RecordinspectionresultsontheInspectionRecordinAppendixAoranothersuitablerecord.8. LABELSThefollowinglabelmustbepresentandlegible.

UnPlandeproteccióncontracaídasdebeestararchivadoydisponibleparasurevisiónporpartedetodoslosusuarios.Elusuarioyelcompradordeesteequipotienenlaresponsabilidaddeasegurarsedequelosusuariosdeesteequipoestándebidamentecapacitadossobresuuso,mantenimientoyalmacenamiento.
