Institution Building ▪ As the Director (Vice-Chancellor), Tata Institute of Social
Sciences (August 2004– to February 2018)
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences has been transformed from a
campus offering 3 masters courses with an intake of 120 students per
annum in 2004 to that of a multi-campus, networked university with
over 1800 masters, 300 undergraduate and 500 doctoral students.
The journey of TISS is a demonstration of how a public funded
institution can grow to offer quality education to a large number of
students across the country. The TISS is clearly on the way to
becoming a world class university with academic excellence and
social relevance to the people and the nation.
