Amoah, Prince Sintim Country: Ghana Profession: Captain – Ghanaian Armed Forces Biography: Before reaching a rank of a Captain, Prince Sintim Amoah completed a two-year military training course at the Ghana Military Academy. He received a commission in the Ghana Army and served for ten years. He has served in two United Nations missions, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in Liberia. In both missions, he was active in patrolling both rural and urban areas to reassure locals of the peaceful environment that United Nations intended to bring to the citizens of these two countries. Prince also

played roles in the 2008 and 2012 elections in Ghana. He helped to help bring the electoral activities to a peaceful and successful completion. He played a similar role in the 2012 election in Liberia. Currently, Prince participates in crime combating operations and is taking online classes on Political Science and Psychology at the University of Ghana. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Prince wants to use the knowledge and skills gained from the program to enhance civil- military cooperation so that civil society will be exposed to good Public Management. He will also use the opportunity to interact with other Fellows to build regional teams that could visit respective countries in the region to promote culturally sensitive programs that promote civil society, improve public administration, and reduce conflict. Anne, Hamidou Country: Senegal Profession: Communication and Public Relations Strategist Biography: Hamidou Anne has several years’ of experience at different government offices in Senegal. Before becoming a communication and public strategist for the Senegal’s Office of the President, he was a diplomatic adviser to the Minister of Culture and Heritage and worked as a diplomat in charge of the files of the Fourth Committee of the United Nations that is responsible to investigate issues related to decolonization, refugees, and human rights.

Hamidou has made public presentations about his work in social inclusion, gender equality, and economic development in conferences in France and in other African nations. He also publishes editorial columns that focus upon topics related to building the image of the African Continent. He is currently a regular columnist for French newspaper Le Monde and writing a book about the challenges facing African youth. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Hamidou hopes to develop strong technical, personal and academic skills and plans to work in collaboration with other young African leaders to change the face of Africa and support its economic and social transformation. Cheelo, Muloongo Country: Zambia Profession: Journalist - The National Agricultural Information Services, Zambia. Biography: Muloongo Cheelo had role models at a local radio station, Chikuni Community Radio, at a very young age and this experience influenced him to pursue a career in the media industry. He noticed the power of the media for information dissemination particularly how it was used to educate people about HIV. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication in 2014. Muloongo Cheelo also has a passion for film and photography. His

current focus is on climate change and in particular, how farmers can mitigate the effects of climate change on productivity and improve their lives and yields in adverse conditions. As part of his duties for the Agricultural Information Services, he organizes events such as agricultural and commercial shows that are designed to increase the interaction between community farmers and technocrats. This interaction increases the community's knowledge base and promotes change and innovation. In the next 10 years, he wishes to have a production studio to develop and produce documentaries about the environment and how people can adapt to the effects of climate change. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Muloongo hopes to learn new skills and become a better leader, and he hopes to be more motivated to work on mitigating on the effects of climate through wider coverage of the problem in his home district of Sesheke and across Zambia. Dall, Alna Magdalena Country: Namibia Profession: Journalist – One Africa Television Biography: Alna Magdalena Dall is a journalist and an activist for the rights of women and children in Namibia. She is the founding and one of the three leading members of Namibia's Coalition against Gender-based Violence, a network of nine member organizations and 22 individuals who work in the struggle against gender-based and sexual violence. As a survivor of sexual abuse, she has used her trauma to help those who are most vulnerable to violence and to take steps to escape from it. Currently, she works at Namibia’s second

largest TV station. In the Namibian Coalition Against Gender Based Violence that she co-leads, she mobilized protests, charity events, media workshops, and support groups. Through her work in the coalition, Alna reached out to the families of women who have lost their lives to domestic violence. She also supports families of victims to cover funeral costs of a small fraction of the victims of intimate-partner violence. Through her work in the coalition, she aims to expose the injustices against women and children through extending her sphere of influence. After completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Alna will continue her work leading the coalition and changing the lives of women and girls in Namibia. Contact: [email protected]

Dube, Lindelwa Country: South Africa Profession: Diplomant and Social Activist Biography: Lindelwa Dube has several years’ experience of active participation in domestic, regional and international politics. She worked at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation of the South African Government on issues related to conflict resolution, negotiation, economic diplomacy, and foreign policy. Lindelwa is involved domestic politics through her social justice work in organizations such as Oxfam and a youth-led non-partisan organization, Inkulufreeheid. She is passionate about activism for social justice and is a member of Activate!

Change Drivers Community Program which aims at equipping young people with leadership and community development skills. She is the current National President of Inkulufreeheid and published articles on different national political issues. In the future, she wishes to be an advocate for social justice and human rights, nationally and across Africa. Upon the completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Lindalwa expects become a better leader with new innovative methods to lead and organize that she will learn in the classroom and through interaction with other participants. Fathalrahman, Samah Abdallah Country: Sudan Profession: Human Rights/Women and Girls/Disability Biography: Samah Abdallah Fahalrahman works for UNICEF as a United Nation Volunteer (UNV) monitoring and evaluating education and child-protection services. She is an advocate and spokesperson to promote the recruitment of volunteers and the implementation of volunteer programs. This work requires her to train and monitor volunteers and to resolve problems and conflicts when they occur. She also works with a local initiative called SALEEMA. Its mission is to end harmful traditional practices such

as female genital mutilation (FGM), early marriage, child recruitment into army and other difficult and demanding issues that affect the lives of children. She works through community dialogs to create awareness for citizens about the lasting harm that such practices create. She also works with the community through UNICEF to provide psychosocial support for children affected by armed conflict and help them to enroll in schools. Samah Intends to use the skills she gains from the Mandela Washington Fellowship to become a stronger advocate for the needs of children create more awareness among citizens about harmful practices such as FGM and work extensively jointly with other stake holders to end such practices. Hailemariam, Hiwot Amare Country: Ethiopia Profession: Medical Doctor – Jimma University Teaching Hospital Biography: Hiwot Amare Hailemariam is a medical doctor with a specialty in internal medicine. Currently, she is the head of the Internal Medicine Department at Jimma University Teaching Hospital and works in the cardiology unit that involves doing echocardiography to patients and treating patients after the procedure. She is also currently on a fellowship program to become a cardiologist to prevent the development of heart failure in young and productive age Ethiopians from preventable rheumatic heart diseases. She also wants to contribute to the

health of the community by preventing avoidable morbidity and mortality from diseases that can be treated with accessible medicine. Hiwot intends to use the skills she gains from the Mandela Washington Fellowship to become a more informed leader and help improve her leadership skills through a wider network with different stakeholders to have different perspectives on how similar problems are being tackled in a developed country like the United States. Halato, Said Mohamed Country: Djibouti Profession: Journalist and Chief Editor - English national broadcast news Biography: Said Mohamed Halato has several years of experience as a language teacher, French-English translator, and a journalist. He earned a master’s degree in Journalism and is currently attending evening classes to further his knowledge. He also works locally on training and mentoring high school youth on how to be active and positive actors in the Djiboutian society and on issues such as globalization, technologies, and civic

duties. On returning to Djibouti after the fellowship, Said will continue his work to strengthen the institutions of civil society in Djibouti. Contact: [email protected]

Kassama, Fatoumatta L Country: The Gambia Profession: Nurse, Ophthalmologist- Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Center Biography Fatoumatta has six year experience in Nursing, specifically focusing in Ophthalmology. Currently, Fatoumatta is an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant at Sheikh Zayed Regional Eye Care Center where she focuses on treating people with eye problems, doing minor eye surgeries, counseling patients, giving health education, supervising junior staff, teaching student nurses and interns. Fatoumatta is the founder of Eye Care for All, a support group that provides free individualized home based care,

community screenings, Glaucoma drugs and surgery fees for the less privileged living with Glaucoma in her community. Besides her paid job, she volunteers with the Ageing with a Smile Initiative and Africa Muslim Agency in collaboration with Al Basar International where they provide free health care services for the elderly and free cataract surgeries for those living in her community. Fatoumatta is committed to her work and she hopes to see that quality health care services are provided for everyone in her country. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Fatoumatta plans to continue her work, and also as a volunteer with focus on providing free individualized home based care for the less privileged living with Glaucoma in her community. Lehani, Hervé Magaribi Country: Democratic Republic of Congo Profession: Diplomat - Congolese Diplomatic Academy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Biography: Herve Magaribi Lehani has more than ten years’ experience in public service in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He worked as the Chief of Staff of the Cabinet of the central government and served as the General Director of the Rural Development College in Uvira. He also volunteered in different organizations including the Vira Cultural Center; an organization dedicated to preserve the cultural and historical heritage of the Bavira people in the eastern region of DR

Congo, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. He hopes that his participation in Mandela Washington Fellowship will positively influence and inform his commitment in his nation’s struggle to improve education and governance, find peace and security, address climate change and build democratic institutions. Magbollah, Henrietta Madia Peters Country: Liberia Profession: National Youth Coordinator - Office of the President Biography: Henrietta Madia Peters Magbollah has worked tirelessly in Liberia over the past twelve years to improve the lives of Liberian youth through her active participation in the development and implementation of youth focused policies, programs and projects. She currently serves as the National Youth Coordinator in the Office of the President providing program and technical support to the Ministry of Youth and Sports that manage programs that keep young people positively engaged. Henrietta

also mentors high school girls and volunteers in an organization that gives back to the community through minimum donations to orphans, and hospitals. Through the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Henrietta hopes to learn how youth programs and policies are organized and managed in the United States and to use this information and understanding when she returns to Liberia. Mate, Pamela Country: Namibia Profession: Senior Information Officer- Namibian Parliament, National Council Biography: Pamela Mate has a worked in various government offices as a journalist, news producer, and information officer. As part of her duties at the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation, she produced several shows, including an investigative reporting program that exposed corruption Namibia. Currently, Pamela works at the National Council as the Senior Information Officer where she is responsible for research, information services, publications, and documentation. She is enrolled in a graduate program in Media where her

research topic focuses upon how the Information and Resource Centers of Parliament can enhance the work of Parliamentarians and the lawmaking process. Upon the completion of this fellowship, Pamela plans to transform debates in the Namibian parliament from opinion based to fact based through information and communication technology (ICT) development. Mensah, Ruby Aileen Nana Esi Country: Ghana Profession: Pharmacist, Healthcare Management Biography: Ruby Aileen Mensah is a pharmacist with over ten years’ experience in the health sector. Currently, she is a Deputy Director at the National Health Insurance Authority where she oversees the management of the National Health Insurance Scheme’s Benefit Package, Medicines List, Service Tariffs and Provider Payment Methods. In the past five years, Ruby has been actively involved in the review of a number of policy documents of the Ministry of Health. These include the National Medicines Policy, Standard Treatment Guidelines and Essential Medicines

List. She has also served on a number of committees tasked with the development of pharmaceutical policy initiatives that intend to reform and strengthen the sector and is actively involved in issues relating to the pricing and availability of medicines in the country. Ruby holds a Master’s Degree in International Healthcare Management from the University of Aberdeen. She is passionate about health system strengthening activities that institute measures to improve access to quality medicines and contribute to the attainment of Universal Health Coverage. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Ruby hopes to continue her work in initiating interventions that influence healthcare delivery positively, especially in the area of making pharmaceuticals accessible and affordable to the general populace.

Moussa, Mohamed Abdoulkader Country: Djibouti Profession: Adviser- Ministry's Institute of Diplomatic Studies. Biography: Mohamed Abdoulkader served on Djibouti's Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland for three years. He then returned to Djibouti and joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. In his current position, Mohamed is in charge of designing and delivering training programs for diplomats to increase their knowledge of different languages, leadership and management. Mohammed founded and leads a non-profit organization – “Djib-Rural Action” -- and serves Djibouti’s rural poor by distributing food, providing medical care and

connecting and assisting youth. Upon returning to Djibouti, Mohamed intends to use the knowledge and skills he learns from the fellowship to improve leadership and collaborative actions in Djibouti. Contact: [email protected]

Msimuko, Rachel Country: Zambia Profession: Pharmacist - Mkushi District Biography: Rachel Msimuko has been working for the ministry of health as a district pharmacist in the Mkushi District of Zambia for five years. She is responsible for ensuring that there is sufficient medicine and essential health commodities are available whenever necessary in all the twenty-eight public health facilities located in her district. In addition, she trains district staff in medicine logistics management and quality improvement in health care delivery. Through the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Rachel hopes to

become a more effective leader and manager of district medical staff and to collaborate with them to improve the overall quality of the health care delivery system in Zambia. . Contact: [email protected]<[email protected]

Mtatiro, Julius Country: Tanzania Profession: Executive Director- FAHAM Company Limited Biography: Julius Mtatiro worked as a National Coordinator of a bilateral international program between The Civic United Front (CUF) and Radikale Venstre (A Danish Political Party) in Tanzania. He has also participated in various voluntary activities such as teaching in under-resourced schools, and translating at EQUIP Tanzania. Currently he works as an Executive Director of FAHAM Company Limited that publishes various newspapers, magazines and journals. He also a Leadership Committee Chairperson at The Civic United Front (CUF), a Tanzanian

Political Party with 43 MP's. Julius established an ONLINE Program where young activists (across their political and ideological spaces) discuss key national issues. Upon returning home at the end of the fellowship, he plans to continue to be a true role modal to millions of young Tanzanians who will continue to believe in true activism and patriotism of their nation, Tanzania. Mutagoma, Damas Frank Country: Rwanda Profession: State Attorney- Ministry of Justice Biography: Damas Mutagoma has over two and a half years’ experience working in the justice and human rights field. Currently, Mr. Mutagoma is the Acting Senior State Attorney in charge of human rights and treaty body reporting in the Rwandan Ministry of Justice. He is the focal person for all human rights issues in Rwanda where he focuses on developing and evaluating policies and strategies for protection and promotion of Human Rights. He is also responsible for matters related to international Justice and Judicial

cooperation in the Ministry. Mr. Mutagoma holds a Master’s Degree in Public International Law from Kigali Independent University and he is pursuing a Postgraduate diploma in Legal Practice. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Mutagoma plans to continue working in the justice and human rights field to edify the post-genocide reconstruction of his country and achieving the rule of Law for sustainable development in Rwanda. Naidoo, Nerusha Country: South Africa Profession: Attorney/Contract Manager - local municipality in Ladysmith Biography: Nerusha Naidoo has a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and more recently earned her MBA degree. As a contract attorney and manager, she is deeply involved in the drafting of the Municipal By-Laws. Her current responsibilities include drafting and overseeing contracts, ensuring that all contractors perform strictly to the terms of the contract, benefit the local community, involve local small entrepreneurs, and monitoring contracts to ensure that skills transfer takes place. Upon the completion of Mandela Washington Fellowship, Nerusha hopes to enhance her leadership skills to

Oduro, Gloria Agyeman Country: Ghana Profession: Registered Nurse Biography: Gloria Agyeman Oduru has ten years’ experience in frontline clinical care in Ghana’s healthcare system. She became a registered nurse in 2007 and received a study grant from the government of Ghana in 2010 to further her study for a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. She completed her degree in 2014 with honors among the top 5% of her cohort. Currently, she works as a senior nurse in a hospital and supervises staff. Gloria also volunteers with Marie Stopes

International to promote safe and healthy reproductive health. She hopes that her participation in the Mandela Washington Fellowship will improve her global perception of societal issues and advance her leadership skills. Contact: [email protected]

Oshone, Adey Tamire Country: Ethiopia Profession: Project Coordinator – African Union Biography Adey Tamire is currently a Policy Officer at the African Union Commission. She has taken part in the development and finalization of various polices of the Commission for its Peace Support Operations, including its Policy on Conduct and Discipline, Prevention and Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA) and Whistleblowers. She has also taken part in the finalization of other outstanding policy documents including the Policy Guidelines on the Role of the African Standby Force in Humanitarian Action and Natural

Disaster Support. She has also supported investigation and assessment of allegations of SEA in the African Union Mission in Somalia and subsequent consultations with Troop Contributing Countries and joint African Union–United Nations review of available mechanisms to finance and support African Union peace support operations. Adey holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree (Honors) and a Masters of Peace and Security Studies (Honors). She has also attended training on Civil Military Cooperation, Financial Risk Management, International Defense Resource Management, Exercise Planning and Management. Her interests include human rights and humanitarian law, conduct and discipline, protection of civilians, policy formulation and community work. She volunteers at Beza Community Development Association (BCD) by tutoring young children. Sagno, Laëtitia Yamon Country: Guinea Profession: Private Consultant Biography: Laëtitia Yamon Sagno has been working in politics and the communication fields as a public affairs project manager for several years. Currently, she started her own consulting firm in political communication for African decision makers, and offers services and tools that help policy makers to build transparent relationship with citizens. Her aspiration is to be an intermediary between international organizations and political actors to produce change consistent with “on the ground” realities in Africa. Upon the completion of the Mandela

Washington Fellowship, Laëtitia intends to have a clearer understanding of how problems and policies are analyzed, developed, and decided upon in the US, and adopt best practices. Contact: [email protected]

Senteu, Caroline Kashinin Country: Kenya Profession: Health/Education/Maternal and Child Services Biography: Caroline Kashinin Senteu has a bachelor’s degree in nursing and is currently the project coordinator at Shokut Naretoi Community, a project conducted in partnership with Dorcas Aid International. She has several years’ experience working with infectious disease clinics in Africa. To meet her interest in participating in community health projects, she started working with the Maasai Girls Education Fund, and has worked with other marginalized native communities. Caroline focuses on organizing

group discussions with community leaders, village elders, and women to be inclusive of all on the issues concerning maternal, child, and neonatal health. Upon returning home, she hopes to share experiences and improve her skills as a leader that in turn will benefit her communities in many ways. Contact: [email protected]

Simelane, Thobisa Country: Swaziland Profession: Senior Legal Analyst – Biography: Tobisa Simelane is a lawyer who works as a Senior Legal Analyst at the Competition. As competition regulation was almost non-existent in Swaziland, and he is part of the pioneering team developing sound jurisprudence and precedent for future competition law practitioners. He has been involved in complex investigations into anti-competitive behavior and in reviewing over 20 mergers. In addition, he is mentoring a young lady who is starting a boutique law firm

in Johannesburg, and worked with two young females to start a crime scene cleaning business in South Africa. Ugboaja, Chisa Uzoamaka Country: Nigeria Profession: Physician - Northern Nigeria Biography: Chisa Uzoamaka Ugboaja is a Physician and a Senior Registrar at a tertiary hospital in Northern Nigeria. She is currently undergoing residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She treats gynecological conditions as well as pregnant women including HIV patients to prevent maternal to child transmission of HIV and reduce maternal mortality. She is the president of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN),

Benue State Chapter, where she volunteers, coordinates and facilitates health promotion activities related to adolescent and reproduction health, breast and cervical cancer, and HIV/AIDS and safe motherhood. Through the Mandela Washington Fellowship, she hopes to build her technical capacity and improve her role in leadership related to policy formulation and public finance management so that she becomes the best in service provision to her community. Usman, Aliyu Country: Nigeria Profession: Police Public Relation Officer - Kaduna State, Command of the Nigeria Police Biography: Aliyu Usman attended 18-month Cadet Police Officers Training at the Nigerian Police Academy Wudil. He was commissioned into the Nigerian Police Force as the youngest officer in the class of 2012. He completed a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and another in Conflict, Peace and Strategic Studies. Currently, Usman is a Police Public Relation Officer of Kaduna State Command of the Nigeria Police. Though his career, he initiated Enhanced Community Partnership Network Project to improve

police-community relationship, and he achieved an improved public perception of the police that has greatly increased community support toward solving crimes in the Kaduna State. Upon the completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, he hopes to learn new skills and firsthand strategic mechanisms from the professionals and world class peace and policing experts.
