The Manhasset Soccer Club (MSC) is dedicated to providing lifelong memoriesthroughthewonderfulgameofsoccertothechildrenofourcommunity.Ourgoalisto set the foundation for a life which emphasizes participation, teamwork,sportsmanship,leadershipandcommunityservice.ManhassetSoccerisanot-for-profit501c(3)organization.

History

CowNeckSoccerwasfoundedin1978.CowNeckprovidedorganizedsoccergameswithinManhassetfor22yearsviaintramuralgamesandparticipationonCYOtravelteams.As soccergrewonLong Island, theownersofCowNeckSoccerdecided toretirefrommanagingtheprogram.InApril2000,theMSCwasformedtocontinuetoprovidethechildrenofManhassetthe opportunity to play organized soccer. MSC fosters good sportsmanship andhealthy competition. We are a volunteer-driven organization with hundreds ofvolunteershelpingtocreateapositiveexperienceforourchildren.DuringtheearlyyearsofMSC,itrequiredweeklyBoardmeetingstoorganizefields,schedules,rosters,equipmentandnumerousothertasksrequiredforayouthsportsprogram.Thefoundingmembersdedicatedhundredsofhourstoestablishthesolidframeworkbywhich theclubstilloperates today. Through theworkofcountlessvolunteers,theprogramcontinuestogrow.

WithYourSupport…ManhassetSoccerhasalonghistoryofsupportingandinvestingintheManhassetcommunity.Wehavepartneredwithvariousorganizationstodevelopandupgradefacilitiesthroughoutourcommunity.WebelieveitiscriticalforManhassetSoccertoplayaleadingroleinensuringweprovideopportunitiestoallourchildrenparticipatinginyouthsports.Throughyourgenerosity,wehavebeenabletoprovidenumerouscontributionstothecommunityovertheyears.

• WorkedwithPAL,IndiansRockandtheTownofNorthHempsteadtoinstallanewturffieldwithlightsatManhassetValleyPark.

• PartneredwithPAL,BoosterClub,IndiansRockandtheManhassetSchoolDistricttoupgradethesprinklersandre-sodthefieldsatShelterRockSchool.

• Provideanadaptivesoccerprogramforspecialneedschildren.

• Providescholarshipstoeconomicallydisadvantagedchildren.

• Providepartialcollegescholarshipstovarsitysoccerplayersaswellasequipmentandgeartothehighschoolteams.

ManhassetisacoastaltownlocatedinthestateofNewYorkwithapopulationover8,080accordingtotheUScensusbureau. It isahighlyeducatedtownwithnearly90% of its residence holding high school or higher degrees, 59%with Bachelor’sdegreeorhigher.Manhasset homeprices arenot only among themost expensive inNewYork, butManhassetrealestatealsoconsistentlyranksamongthemostexpensiveinAmerica.Manhassetwas selectedasoneof themostaffluent towns in theUnitedStatesbyForbesMagazine in 2012.Newsday listedManhasset as the 108thmost expensivezipcodeintheUnitedStatesin2014withmedianhomepriceover$1.9M.TheWallStreetJournalrankedManhassetin2014asthebestneighborhoodtoraiseafamilyintheNYCmetropolitanarea

DirectorofCoachingMSCannouncedtheappointmentofTarlSmithasitsDirectorofCoaching(DOC)inJuneof2016.Mr.SmithbeganhiscareerwithManhassetSoccerClubin2011asatrainerforourtravel teams. During the past few years, Tarl has developed our Little Chiefsprogramandmorerecently,beganrevitalizingourintramuralprogram.AsownerofTopCornerSoccer,Tarlandhisstafffosteraphilosophythatisbasedonaplayer’slong-termdevelopmentandloveofsoccer.Mr.Smith has been involved in youth soccer for 20 years, 17 ofwhich have beendedicated to developing soccer players here on Long Island. He has attained thehighestpossible accolades forboth theU.S. SoccerFederation (USSF)andNationalSoccer CoachesAssociation of America (NSCAA).Most recently, he has completedhisUSSFALicense and currentlyundertakinghisNSCAAMasterCoach and SoccerLeader Diploma.Tarlis also a head coach for the EasternNew YorkYouth SoccerAssociation’s(ENYYSA)OlympicDevelopmentProgram(ODP)andhighlyregardedasaStaffinstructorforENYYSA,deliveringUSSFLicensesacrossNewYorkState.Togetherwith theMSCBoard,Mr.Smith andMSCwill continue tobuildupon thefoundationofourcommunity-basedprogram.Hewillbeclosely involvedwith theimplementation of the newUSSFGuidelines aswell as all our programs.With thenew landscape of youth soccer, theManhassetSoccer Board believes theappointmentofMr.SmithasDOCwouldbenefitallourMSCplayers.Hisknowledgeandunderstandingofyouthsoccerwillonlyfurtherenhanceourprogram.

Programs

LittleChiefs:MSC’s introductory program is designed for players who are 4 years old byDecember1st (Pre-Kindergartenplayers).TheLittleChiefsprogram is runbyourpartner, Top Corner Soccer. Each trainer follows a set curriculum designed byowner,TarlSmith,whichisaphilosophyeachtrainershares.Formoreinformation,visit www.topcorner.us and www.ussoccer.com to become familiar with thefoundationofourprogram.Program:Weekend–60-minutesessionsoneitherSaturdayorSunday.AgeGroups:Pre-K(U4)&Kindergarten(U5).

FallSeason:Septembertomid-November(8-10sessionsbasedonschoolcalendar)atlocaloutdoorfields.Winter Session: January to March with limited registration for indoor space atManhassetSecondarySchool.(6-8sessionsdependingongymavailability).SpringSeason:LateMarch/EarlyApriltomid-June(8-10sessionsbasedonschoolcalendar)atlocaloutdoorfields.Adaptive:TheManhassetSoccerClubAdaptiveSoccerProgramisacarefullyadaptedprogramallowing children with special needs to build skills in a nurturing and non-competitive environment. Our soccer program currently serves children withspecialneeds, ages5–13yearsold.Professionally trainedcoachesanddedicatedvolunteers help the children acquire athletic skills such as dribbling, passing,shooting,agilities,andsocialskills.Program: Weekend – 60-minute sessions on either Saturday or Sunday. AgeGroups:K(5yearsold)–U13(13yearsold). Fall Season: September toNovember (approximately8 sessions)at localoutdoorfields.SpringSeason:LateMarch/EarlyApriltoJune(approximately8sessions)atlocaloutdoorfields.Warriors:ManhassetSoccerClub’sintramuralprogramisdesignedforplayersin1st(U7),2nd(U8),3rd(U9-Fallonly)grade.WhilebuildinguponthesocialandtechnicalaspectslearnedintheLittleChiefs,theprogramcontinuestoreinforcethoseskillsandaddsthe technical aspects. Our intramural program is a “mandatory” program for allplayerswhoparticipateinourtravelprogram.Playerscanparticipateinintramuralonlyand“opt-out”of travel. Over1,000boysandgirlsbetweenthepre-Kand3rdgradeparticipateinourintramuralprogrameachseason.Program: Weekday – 75-minute session Weekend – 90-minute gametraining/game.AgeGroups:1st(U7)(notraveloption),2nd(U8)&3rd(U9)notparticipating intravel.FallSeason:Septembertomid-November(8-10sessionsbasedonschoolcalendar)atlocaloutdoorfields.

SpringSeason:LateMarch/EarlyApriltomid-June(8-10sessionsbasedonschoolcalendar)atlocaloutdoorfields TravelSoccer:Manhasset Soccer offers a travel soccerprogram toplayers looking for additionaland more competitive soccer than that offered through our intramural program.This program is available for players eligible to register for U9 and above travelsoccer.PlayerswhosebirthdayfallwithintheU.S.SoccerFederationrequiredbirthyearthisfallhavetheoptiontoplay“travelsoccer”.Itismadeforchildrenthatwanttoplaymoresocceratacompetitivelevel.GamesareplayedonSaturdayorSundayandteamsarethenentered into leaguesand placed in divisions appropriate to the respective skill level. A league seasonconsistsof9gamesplayedoverapproximately10-12weeksassetbyLongIslandJuniorSoccerLeague (LIJSL)www.lijsoccer.com.Scheduledgameday forU12andbelowareSaturday;SundayforU13andabove–thoughgamedaycanbechangedifrequested.ThefallseasonrunsSeptember–NovemberandthespringseasonrunsApril-Junewith8-9gamesperseason.MSCparticipatesintheLIJSLwith28boysand26girlsteamswithover850playersintotal.
