MEMPHIS MAY FIRE NEW FLAME

The Dallas metalcore band are set to release their fourth studio album early this year. They began writing after completing the Vans Warped Tour in the US. Out March 21.

THE ALGORITHM CRACKING THE CODE

They won the Metal Hammer Golden God Award for Best Underground Band in 2013 and surprised many on their first tour of Oz as part of the recent BDO line up. Their album ‘Polymorphic Code’ infuses modern metal riffs with a menagerie of electronic subgenres and the AU version has two extra tracks! Get amongst it!

I KILLED THE PROM QUEEN HAVE LONG BEEN CREDITED AS A PIONEER IN THE AUSTRALIAN HEAVY MUSIC SCENE. THE NEWS THAT IKTPQ WOULD BE RE-UNITING (ALBEIT WITH LINE-UP CHANGES) FOR NEW ALBUM – BELOVED – HAD FANS’ PULSES RACING FOR GOOD REASON! GUITARIST JONA WEINHOFEN OPENS HIS HEART TO MANIACS .

Beloved – seems to be a very personal record… “Lyrically, Beloved deals with a few separate subjects which are all very personal. We discuss our feelings towards being away from home for most of the year, on tour and in the studio, and how that absence impacts our personal lives and relationships. We have a song which relates to animal welfare since we are 4 vegans and one vegetarian and it is something which we believe strongly in as individuals. We chose the title Beloved once the album was completed and it seemed to sum up its content in a simple and impactful way using just one word.”

There are some great guest appearances on the album… “I became friends with Bjorn (Strid – Soilwork) through touring and we asked him to be involved as a vocal producer and coach. Jon (Vigil – The Ghost Inside) has been a long-time friend to IKTPQ and our two bands have toured together in the past. We love working with friends and being able to show these friendships to fans through touring together and appearing on each other’s records.”

Was your production in Sweden with Fredrik Nordstrom an influence on the sound? “IKTPQ has always been heavily influenced by the ‘Gothenburg sound’ which is essentially melody and harmony driven death metal originated by At The Gates and followed by many other Swedish bands (In Flames, Soilwork, Dark Tranquillity). Being that the members of IKTPQ came from a background in hardcore music we always loved infusing this Swedish melodic death metal sound with hardcore breakdowns and lyrics with meaning. Many of these original Swedish albums were recorded and produced by Fredrik at Studio Fredman. He has been instrumental in helping to shape IKTPQ’s sound.”

So is Beloved a ‘come back’ album? “I guess it is a ‘come back’ album, since musically we have been absent from the world for quite some time as IKTPQ. Luckily our involvement with other bands and musical projects has somehow managed to keep IKTPQ alive. Writing and recording this album was an amazing experience! The current line-up has really great musical chemistry and I think Beloved is a true testament to that.”

What makes you a Maniac? “My Vegan lifestyle is probably my hugest passion besides music. A lifestyle and diet which revolves around positivity, kindness, compassion and health is something I find difficult to fault. I am a huge animal lover, a bit of an environmentalist and find real importance in our health and the vegan lifestyle encompasses all three of these things. I have been vegan 14 years…It is the best change I have ever made.”

Beloved is out on February 14 through Epitaph. For more information check out ikilledthepromqueen.com

PERIPHERY THE FUTURE IS CLEAR

CLEAR - the ‘not an EP but not quite an album’ experimental release from PERIPHERY debuted at #37 on the ARIA chart in Feb, a high-score in Australia for the guys. It features a track written by each individual member of the band. Lamb of God are even listening to it so it’s probably worth picking up if you haven’t already.

DE LA TIERRA HOT (METAL)HEADED

LATINOS! Latino metal band De La Tierra released their debut self-titled album this year and it exploded with metal greatness. Recording between Buenos Aires and LA, you can imagine the diverse sound these guys came up with. All the band’s lyrics are in Spanish, so you can learn a new (metal) language while you’re at it!

Restoring Force is out now through RISE Records. Check out the track ‘You’re Not Alone’ (as heard on the Maniacs 2014 Sampler).

With the release of their critically acclaimed Black Diamonds EP last November, Issues has seen a tremendous amount of success thanks to their innovative sound and constant tour schedule - opening for acts like A Day To Remember, Of Mice & Men, Pierce The Veil, Memphis May Fire, Sleeping With Sirens, Crown The Empire, as well as a stint on the US Vans Warped Tour. For their self-titled debut album the band once again paired up with producer Kris Crummet (Sleeping With

Sirens, Black Diamonds EP) to create more genre bending tracks that combine heavy rock and melodic choruses spirited by duelling vocalists Tyler Carter and Michael Bohn.

Issues is Out Now through RISE records. Check out the track for Stingray Affliction (as heard on the Maniacs 2014 Sampler)

Of Mice & Men are well and truly ‘Restoring Force’ to the world-wide album charts with the release of their third album hitting a career high debuting at #9 in Australia and #4 in the US!

Produced by David Bendeth (Paramore, A Day To Remember), Restoring Force conceptually follows previous album The Flood. Say’s frontman Austin Carlile “What happens after a disaster? What happens after The Flood?” You return to normal. You find balance

again. That’s what we felt like we were doing with this album. We wanted this record to bring equilibrium back to our band and music. We’re letting everyone know that we’re here to stay. We’re Restoring Force.”

The band brought their memorable live show to Australia twice last year, firstly with the 2013 Soundwave line-up and later supporting Bring Me The Horizon - when next we see

them no doubt it will be for headline shows! Stay tuned!

PARADISE (WHAT ABOUT US? W/TARJA)

Romance and mystery have returned with the sixth studio album from Dutch symphonic metal legends Within Temptation – Hydra. Guitarist and songwriter Robert Westerholt says, “‘Hydra’ is a perfect title for our new album, because like the monster itself, the record represents the many different sides of our music…it’s the most powerful album we’ve ever made…”

W.T. have invited some noteworthy guests to help bring their many heads to life. On first single Paradise (What About Us?), Finnish metal legend Tarja Turunen (ex Nightwish)

helps create the perfect vocal collab; the two most recognized front women of the genre working together for the first time. American hip-hop star Xzibit, guests on And We Run and Dangerous was recorded with ex-Killswitch Engage singer Howard Jones, “I always loved Howard’s voice,” says Sharon den Adel. “He makes the song even heavier than it already is.”

Hydra is out now through Roadrunner Records. It is also available as limited special deluxe edition with a 100 page hardcover booklet.
